11:18am: the other big change is the more consistent times to eat. Breakfast at 8:30, lunch at 12:30 and dinner still at 6:15 but around 3 checking blod glucose levels if I feel the need for a snack. Keeping busy between lunch and dinner is helping to

Tom: When I worked every day I would walk down to the Lead Senior Accountant's office to get a mini-candy bar and enjoy it while we chatted. When I left so did another Snicker's mini. I did that at least twice a day. I'm sure that these mini didn't help my blood levels. But, I've taken off maybe 50 pounds since I retired in 2012! I still need to reduce some more of my weight.

Hi, max on carbs right now is 195 for the day. 60, 60 and 75 for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have noticed a dramatic decrease in blood glucose levels all around. The problems have been the lows, below 70 for me due to either not counting carbs correctly or the exercise is more affective then before. I measure everything right now till I have a better knowledge base.

Portion control, that was key for me. I have/had a large appetite. 4 or 5 sandwiches would be common fare. Once I managed to control the amount to a single serving, numbers started dropping. The other thing, and I believe an important one, is don't punish yourself with a diet. I like scotch, but carb wise not good. I had 2 a week and managed to bring numbers down. If the entire diet is punishment, with no little rewards here or there, you just won't stick with it.

Hughie: I worked with a fellow who brought two twin packages of potato chips to work every day. An entire box of chips to go along with his four sandwiches, candy bars and sodas. He was well over six feet tall and heavy. No blood sugar problems!!!

I dated his daughter who was a fashion model and to say the least...very trim.

Good Morning everyone.....warming up in this part of Wisconsin. Cathy is off doing errands and I'm puppy sitting again for Riley.

As I said yesterday, our house is in the midst of a bunch of minor remodeling and updating projects and its a mess. One of the projects is new hallway carpet. The hallway is small and its not a big job for a carpet contractor. The guy we we working came out and made a comment about our house which didn't sit right with us and now it looks like he's avoiding us because of the small size of the job. Little does he know that kitchen, dinette, dining room, foyer and half bath are next and guess who's out of the picture for consideration.

Yesterday, I wasted over an hour by trying to start an on line banking account and the system wouldn't take my ID or the passwords I wanted to use. After talking to three people and getting hung-up on I got my banking statement back to mail instead of the email they changed it for future statements. After that she told me to contact the other departments to fix the problems with my IRA and credit card accounts. Terrible customer service.

Looks like another day of Puppy sitting and no trains.

Hughie and the Guys: I can't take my blood sugar with normal meters because each reading maybe different, but rely on the lab A1C tests for the sugar levels. I did take my level down to 5.2 and now its back up, but a recent blood panel testing (after having a sugar filled sweet roll an hour prior) the blood sugar was only slightly high and two doctors didn't show any concern. Now I drink diet soda and diet 7 Up with Brandy at night and almost no longer drink screwdrivers with real orange juice, but use low sugar OJ when I do have a screwdriver which is seldom. I miss Dunking Donuts!!! Oh for a jelly filled doughnut.

Cathy wants to go to Disney World, but most of the tours are booked. I'm not to crazy about going for two reasons. One is the price that has gone up to unbelievable amounts and I've been there twice on business travels and on our Honeymoon in 1975. The soon to arrive Scale Engines doesn't help my cause to fight against going because of price.

I like all the comments about the personal preferences of track and turnouts that are showing up in the Forum. I wanted to use ME track and turnouts in my expansion area, but now think I'll use only the ME ladder turnouts.

I joined the John Tew's Timber River Railway Facebook Group. I like watching the videos on John's large ore hauling railway and it fits into my ore hauling interests. Several years ago we drove to the UP just to see the ore docks and hauling operations. Unfortunately, a major flood washed out one of the ore docks and the tracks leading up to the dock. We found a small hydroelectric plant that also was washed out. All in all it was a nice day trip to get there and spent several nights in the UP.

My layout has ore hauling cars and my goal of a 100 car ore unit train is unrealistic for my layout being a modest size. But, visitors will see highly weathered ore cars either in storage or in a smaller unit train. My ore cars are mostly Walthers with metal wheel-sets, Chooch ore loads covered with Woodland Scenics ore, KD couplers and weathered to different degrees. The cars are heavy and I use a pair of MILW U-Boats to pull the ore cars.

So that's all to report to comment on.....

See ya.

Greg

It takes some doing, but you can find some pretty good substitutes out there. Ocean Spray has a variety of 5 calorie juices, Nature's Own has a 9 carb, no sugar whole grain bread, and Walden Farms has a excellent pancake syrup.

HERE is an Interesting link for anyone interested?
Many of you have maybe already seen it, but I am sure there are those who have not.
It's good for those in cold, snow covered, and cold climates... LOL (sorry)

Cathy wants to go to Disney World, but most of the tours are booked.

We were there last April. Florida was nice. I was turned off by DW (this being our 5th or 6th time since 2007 and I love Disney Parks normally) because of the Nazi attitude towards masks and covid. That and their wokeness, but that is another discussion elsewhere. I saw a lady (well, not really a "lady" given her behavior -- she was a worker) in a store yelling at a mom of a 3 year old (my guess on age but small toddler type in a stroller). The kid wouldn't keep the mask on no matter what. Kids were never at great risk as spreaders or getting it in the first place but the abuse heaped on that mom by the worker in the store was out of line. Their whole policy was out of line. Workers in the hot sun in the parking lots -- 100 ft separation between workers. They had to wear masks.

People being yelled at all the time about masks while walking around. You could take it off to eat but you couldn't walk and eat. Do that and have a nasty worker yell at you. The whole attitude and arrogance there was off-putting to me.

It will be a long, long time before we visit any Disney park again (except maybe Tokyo as that is run on an operations basis by someone other than Disney, who only has 49% ownership [100% creative control] and doesn't deal in day to day operations -- but of course first we have to be allowed back into Japan). And we'd been to DW at least 4 maybe 5 times prior in the last 14 years and also 2x to Disneyland in California in the last 8 years. (Plus several trips to Tokyo Disney Resort in the last 15 years)

Good afternoon guys, It is a little colder here than Wisconsin.

I am checking in late, and I admit it I did not read all the posts.

However, I have been on a couple diets in my life and my humble advice is eat less and be more active.

Here are a couple shots from the old layout. I would like to get some more of those Central Gems conifers, I think they make the best black spruce of anyone. (they may call them fir, also looks like subalpine fir)

another view, with the mentioned trees (hidden above behind the bin)

The diets. A scourge of life. Some folks have no problem staying slim while others, as mentioned earlier can gain weight just smelling food.
I have no will power when it comes to food. I'll give away the nation's top-secret stuff for a bag of chocolate chip cookies.
The most successful diet I have tried besides stress was a high protein diet. Seems to work the best as I lost over 60lbs that way. Weight is gradually coming back because the discipline is lacking. The high protein is more of a lifestyle than a fix. Ya have to practice it all the time or you will start gaining weight back.
The working part of it is protein burns fat. Veggies help scrub your system. Carbs that aren't burned right away are stored as fat. Ya need some carbs for your daily balance of stuff. Too much protein will cause problems also.

Afternoon All,

Feeling better today after staying in bed for almost 12 hours. Still slightly chilled though and have a "medicine head" today. I did some chores then spent about an hour in the train room. Today I assembled the 2 freight house roof add-ons. After that I put on the freight house roof (kept in place by weight (sand in a ziplock bags) and placed the add-ons and traced their edges on the freight house roof. I painted 5 sheets of Laser Art 3-tab shingles with Rust-Oleum Camouflage Army Green which is very close to the wall color. I plan on shingling the roof before mounting it contrary to the directions. It's much easier to mount roofing material when it's not on the building. I plan on giving the roof (after shingles) a thinned Tamiya XF-69 Nato Black wash. This color when dry looks like a dirty aged black.

Smudge- Congratulations on your new locomotive.

Karl- Great scene.

Joe- Thank you. I'm looking forward to seeing your load.

Sherrel- Nice looking box car.

Willie- Thank you. Nice scenes.

Greg- Nice layout shot.

Chad- Having worked on WDW property with RCFD, if I never hear of or see another Disney commercial it's fine with me, and I'll never go to one of their parks again.

I hope everyone has a good night.

1. Do not tell the wife someone on this forum made you buy it…..she’ll ban you from visiting us
2. You know you just wanted someone to say yes buy it
3. You best have enough money to get to the end of the month or she will do terrible things to you,and maybe to your layout, but mostly to you.
4. Despite any attempts to off chuck the blame I am really sorry you pressed the button,no sympathy, and stop drooling over it..l
1. I can't tell the wife, I don't have one.
2. True.
3. I only buy stuff when I can afford to.
