Ken, I know the feeling about the diabetes. I went off the rails in September as my daily numbers went up. 3 weeks ago after consulting with a dietitian who specializes in diabetes I am finally getting better. I have become a carb counter instead of a sugar content looker. Over the years I have been to dietitians but none of them ever told me to count carbs and the rest will fall into place. So far so good.

best health to you

I've been doing the carb thing for several years now but still having trouble getting back on track for some reason. I use an insulin to carb ratio (food factor) that I divide the number of carbs by to determine how much insulin to take. It used to work like magic but lately I just can't get it right.

I like Luke Towan, do not know Kathy Millat. I think he deserves a knock back for the effort he puts in.
JazA, Kathy is a Brit. Does very nice work and explains her process well. As to Luke Towan, he has slowed down in his public productions but he provides absolutely the best content, instruction and video online. He is an Australian who provides even more content to his patrons who of course pay for the privilege.

Good morning Global modelers. Wisconsin has warmed up for the next day and 1/2. It is 24f degrees feels like 12 but warming to 31 this afternoon. BUT, we are above zero on the wind chill side for the 1st time in 10 days.
Snow possible later and the deep freeze returns Friday night.

The wife wants to get out and so some shopping today and maybe a visit to a eatery. She is thinking a fish house up near the Wisconsin Dells about a hour north of us. I was not expecting that one, but fine with it. But, for a 1 o’clock lunch not dinner.

Trains, I avoided the trainroom last evening as I tried to watch the NHL on the iPadPro. Saw some of the Hawks and Red Wings but even though A Hawk fan, didn’t care.

Enjoy the day

Had the same problem a few years back. Found that I could do both. Before breakfast I check BS. If BS is up, no carbs, if marginal, some carbs and if 100 where my 'want it' point is - maybe a little mo carbs. Body needs those carbs to do work and I find that ima not so tired in the middle of the morning. Checking just before dinner is important also. Body does not do much work sleeping - so if you eat a little mo carbs, they don't burn off as fast as when you are awake so your AM BS will be slightly higher. Don't ask me about the 2nd helping ( small ) of spaghetti last night .. will pay for it today although I should not wear myself out before noon. Must be working ... I have not been over 140 BS for quite awhile ( except for about an hour and half after eating/snacking ofcourse ) and the Doc just grins when I tell her - When I would go above 160 - boy, did I get a reaming!

I am here to tell you it is in fact possible. I cut my carbs to 130 or less a day. Resulting my BMI going into the "normal" range, my A1C dropped to 5.6 and glucose flirted with 100. I have been off any type of diabetic drug for nearly 1 year. I am no longer being treated for diabetes.

Jaz - - - every now and then, I need a Jaz translator! Just like my wife, her autocorrect goes bonkers on her and usually two or three times a month I have to reply:

???

But GOd love you girl, for we all do!! CHeers!
My problem is typing in the middle of the night when having been for a p I am really tired and yet can’t sleep so I pop in here and annoy the living crap out of youse guys.

All this talk of cold weather makes me yearn for summers at the swimmin hole and that tire swing!

Love it, what is not to like in this little scene, models in the water, the rope, the chasing the lad,the sunbathers looking up to see what the commotion is about, and really nice honey coloured water with sone shining on it,fyi the road near us actually has that problem where the earth is falling away, that road will follow once sonething heavy goes over it

Hi, max on carbs right now is 195 for the day. 60, 60 and 75 for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have noticed a dramatic decrease in blood glucose levels all around. The problems have been the lows, below 70 for me due to either not counting carbs correctly or the exercise is more affective then before. I measure everything right now till I have a better knowledge base.

edit@ 11:18am: the other big change is the more consistent times to eat. Breakfast at 8:30, lunch at 12:30 and dinner still at 6:15 but around 3 checking blod glucose levels if I feel the need for a snack. Keeping busy between lunch and dinner is helping to

I'm blaming you, you 'orrible man 🤣
Look what you've made me do, your off my Christmas list for making me do this.
1. Do not tell the wife someone on this forum made you buy it…..she’ll ban you from visiting us
2. You know you just wanted someone to say yes buy it
3. You best have enough money to get to the end of the month or she will do terrible things to you,and maybe to your layout, but mostly to you.
4. Despite any attempts to off chuck the blame I am really sorry you pressed the button,no sympathy, and stop drooling over it..l

Good Morning everyone.....warming up in this part of Wisconsin. Cathy is off doing errands and I'm puppy sitting again for Riley.

As I said yesterday, our house is in the midst of a bunch of minor remodeling and updating projects and its a mess. One of the projects is new hallway carpet. The hallway is small and its not a big job for a carpet contractor. The guy we we working came out and made a comment about our house which didn't sit right with us and now it looks like he's avoiding us because of the small size of the job. Little does he know that kitchen, dinette, dining room, foyer and half bath are next and guess who's out of the picture for consideration.

Yesterday, I wasted over an hour by trying to start an on line banking account and the system wouldn't take my ID or the passwords I wanted to use. After talking to three people and getting hung-up on I got my banking statement back to mail instead of the email they changed it for future statements. After that she told me to contact the other departments to fix the problems with my IRA and credit card accounts. Terrible customer service.

Looks like another day of Puppy sitting and no trains.

Hughie and the Guys: I can't take my blood sugar with normal meters because each reading maybe different, but rely on the lab A1C tests for the sugar levels. I did take my level down to 5.2 and now its back up, but a recent blood panel testing (after having a sugar filled sweet roll an hour prior) the blood sugar was only slightly high and two doctors didn't show any concern. Now I drink diet soda and diet 7 Up with Brandy at night and almost no longer drink screwdrivers with real orange juice, but use low sugar OJ when I do have a screwdriver which is seldom. I miss Dunking Donuts!!! Oh for a jelly filled doughnut.

Cathy wants to go to Disney World, but most of the tours are booked. I'm not to crazy about going for two reasons. One is the price that has gone up to unbelievable amounts and I've been there twice on business travels and on our Honeymoon in 1975. The soon to arrive Scale Engines doesn't help my cause to fight against going because of price.

I like all the comments about the personal preferences of track and turnouts that are showing up in the Forum. I wanted to use ME track and turnouts in my expansion area, but now think I'll use only the ME ladder turnouts.

I joined the John Tew's Timber River Railway Facebook Group. I like watching the videos on John's large ore hauling railway and it fits into my ore hauling interests. Several years ago we drove to the UP just to see the ore docks and hauling operations. Unfortunately, a major flood washed out one of the ore docks and the tracks leading up to the dock. We found a small hydroelectric plant that also was washed out. All in all it was a nice day trip to get there and spent several nights in the UP.

My layout has ore hauling cars and my goal of a 100 car ore unit train is unrealistic for my layout being a modest size. But, visitors will see highly weathered ore cars either in storage or in a smaller unit train. My ore cars are mostly Walthers with metal wheel-sets, Chooch ore loads covered with Woodland Scenics ore, KD couplers and weathered to different degrees. The cars are heavy and I use a pair of MILW U-Boats to pull the ore cars.

So that's all to report to comment on.....

See ya.

Greg
