Willie,
Does the wood ash help? I've got about 10 gallons of it and we are starting a new garden in the spring, about 20x20 plot. It would make a great way to get rid of the ash.
Yes it does, and bones made into mone meal or burned as bone ash is welcomed by plants, much better than bought fertilisers.
The reason farmers around the world are saying that their fields are in crisis is because when war stopped and gunpowder etc had no market farmers were sold the kit as fertiliser, but it is not organic.
wood ash is better and encourages worms and bugs, bone meal same, amazingly peeing on the are ie urea is good for the roots not good for the plants leaves, and wards off some pests,so p around the edges,I do not do this but the other half does, leaf mould, old branches, your veg waste, actually any fecal from animals that eat vegetables and especially grass, chicken, goat, horse, even human, so a compost toilet outside in rural areas is good.

sorry edit English was appalling

yeah. We buy Romaine at Costco and as long as it is not Dole it seems to last a really long time, as long as you store it upright. Other stores Romaine tends to not last long at all, no matter how you store it.

Over time you learn the tricks and secrets of your local market to better allocate your resources. A while back we were in some hard straights and had to be really careful with our money. I never bought anything that wasn't on sale, coupon, etc. except for the most basic needs. After doing that for a long while, I still do it even though we are doing better and don't have the direct financial pressures we were under then. Once you learn to shop frugally, you keep at it. That is not to say I can't splurge or be inefficient, but I can't go to Costco and buy things, except staples or things that we absolutely have to have, unless the stuff is "on coupon" (even though they no longer use actual paper coupons). I'll just wait until it is...
I am the same,we lost a house in the 90s when interest rates went sky high and I got pregnant,I would have needed an abortion and still we would have struggled so walked away from the house, we learned to be frugal and even though we got back on track, I still hate waste, yes I can splurge but even so we rarely buy full price, always want a bargain, our tesla was the first new car we ever bought,we got a super trade in,a govErnie t kick back and over a year later the trade in value is only down by 4k against a new Tesla, when I see stuff we use a lot on offer I check the dates and if it will last I will stock up,I could keep a small corner shop stocked lol.

Afternoon All,

Got up this morning not feeling well (cold/flu symptoms) after getting a cup of coffee and meds I laid back down for a couple of hours and now I just feel tired and chilled. No train room today.

Thank you for the likes on my photos yesterday.

I was talking to Dad after the national news last night, and he said the issue in Europe reminds him of how WWII started. Scary thought.

Mikey- Sorry to disappoint. No interiors. It will have 8 exterior lights and 5 interior ones. Thats a lot of wiring under the roofs.

Chad- I hope you and your family feel better quickly.

Troy- Animals definitely train us.

Patrick- Good news about your daughter.

James- Good luck with the show.

Ken (IL)- Good luck with the IRS.

Dave- Nice looking buildings.

Willie- Nice scenes. MOH told me right after we got married that "You can look but not touch". I have lived by those words for almost 44 years. :)

TomO- You're right she is a great modeler, but why is she a sellout?

George- Really nice job on the wheel.

I hope everyone has a good night.
Hey Curt

my feeling on Kathy Millat is she earned her reputation on You Tube and the train forums. All of a sudden she disappeared from the forums and while still on You Tube doesn’t post as frequently. Also on you tube she is doing more modeling then just trains videos. Has her book at Kalmbach and appearEd in a few of their videos. All making her money that she was never worried about before.

At least Luke Towan on you tube was honest in his stuff. He does the videos to support his hobbies and he has quite a few patronS for his modeling. He by far is the best modeler and video maker around iMO. I am a patron of his.

All this talk of cold weather makes me yearn for summers at the swimmin hole and that tire swing!

Good evening.

14Β° and clear with a calm wind, per the Rutgers University weather station, five miles from my home. May be a little warmer on my porch, but the heats been running frequently. The weather gurus have been reluctant to commit themselves on what we might expect from the predicted Friday Night / Saturday Coastal Storm, other than Gale Force wind on the ocean. We will find out soon enough. We picked up bread and milk this morning, all I have to do is make sure the snow thrower is functional.

After we returned from our morning outing, I spent some time in the train room. I removed one module, and started preparing another to replace it. All the second module needs is an end backdrop, painted and attached to the module. This section will be the end of the line. Once everything is pieced together, and the back drop is painted, I can start with the track.

I also ran a couple of yard engines, a transfer and the Rapido RDC. While the layout is designed for a lone operator, I can probably keep a dispatcher, and three operators busy, if I tried.

I also worked on a drop in Steel Coil rack, for use in my steel floored gondolas. Needs paint. I should edit this photo, but I need to acquire a photo editor for this PC.

PC Gondola Steel Coil rack 01_25_2022.jpg

I need several more for open gondolas. The material I used is a little clunky, but effective. Once painted, it will appear as dunnage.

Karl: Nice summer scene. Makes me long for the summer. Did you get your Bowser RS3 yet?

Curt: Hope you feel better, and your cold is minor.

George:
I love the creativity you are using on your Cabin Car.

Hughie: Love your humor. Those SD70s look nice.

The Coffee Shop is becoming very popular, and difficult to keep up with.

Speaking of Bowser, I note that they have announced a second run of PRR RS3s, this one two in the Keystone scheme, with Radio, instead of Trainphone, and 1966 number series. The numbers shown on the rendering were both assigned to Wilmington, and I Hostled both as well a running them in Edgemoor Yard...

James in 1965 the Marines sent me to the Sahara Desert for desert warfare training. I'm good when the temp is 110. I have no blizzard training. I think I'll pass on this trip but I could change my mind. 2 hours and 15 minutes in the snow most likely not.
George
I was on a winter warfare exercise in Norway, freezing the proverbial butt off doing shit that squaddies do, 24 hrs later we were being shown round our new base of operations by a USMC bod, talk about change in the weather, from wind chill of over minus 20degrees to plus 40degrees in 24hrs takes a bit of getting used to I admit.
Oh! doesn't help either when all you have to wear is your Arctic warfare kit.

Good morning. It's mostly clear and 18.
Weather guessers are thinking there may be rain and/or snow, up to 2" of snow, unless there's more or less, but it could mostly be rain, unless it's not. I think many of these weather people are frustrated politicians...

Still Vertical - yesterday was just about a complete write-off!
I had two different kidney stones just about 30 years ago - one of them required a hospital stay, but I managed to pass it just a few hours before surgery.
This one must have moved somewhere? No pain at the present, but I did not pass it - so it's lurking there somewhere.
The weather lately here is why I stay here! We are stuck on 41F low and 71F high for the past few days and for the next three, they say, with zero clouds anywhere?

KEN - Your post was, I must say, very informative, interesting, and humorous. Sorry about the dizzy - It has been going on with me for the past several months. Even when I first get out of bed, I have to sit on the side a minute or so, otherwise I stagger across the room if I do not hold on to something. I just chalk it up to getting older.

WILLIE - Love the eye candy! KATE will even call my attention to a few, but she knows I have the best.
I would cherish the night that I only have to trip to the loo twice - most of the time its 4-5 times.

PATRICK Haang in there, don't let them wear you down!

We could use another good rain shower, have just about caught up with the average again: I was wishing that this would be the year that we would get an abundance of rain to refill all the lakes?

Waiting on the shop to open - may have to go to I-Hop this morning?

My Frisco Friend, RJThomas, in San Antonio has been busy.
Quote: "The first was an underframe retrofit of an Accurail boxcar that had been decaled with some early Frisco Line K4 decals. I have had some success building the Frisco System cars using these methods and this one certainly warrants the same treatment. While it should have more safety equipment stripped away from the Accurail release, I think this is an improvement. I also replaced the Andrews trucks with some 5-ft 40 ton Tahoe model works arch bar trucks. I will still add brake hoses and uncoupler levers."

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 35Β° on my back porch. Continued moderate temperatures until much warmer on Saturday. Rotten weather at the end of next week, or so says the NWS right now. But their record over the last year or so has been rather dismal.

More gardening prep yesterday, taking advantage of my mild weather. Today though, is the weekly grocery trek, and I have to pick my suit up from the cleaners. Maybe it shrunk a bit and will fit me better.

How about a couple of giant burritos for breakfast today Flo.

Thanks for the many likes and comments regarding the "eye candy" photos; Karl, OB Ken, Dave B, Steve J, George, Tom O, Troy, Justin, Hughie, Curt, Smudge, Louis, Patrick, Tom, James, Rick, Jaz, Joe, Sherrel.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued with the ballast and ground cover that I have been doing. Nothing photogenic about the progress yet. Slow but steady progress. I'll head to the archives today for some pictures. Young ladies on the layout seem to be popular; it does make us forget the crappy weather many are having. These are actually all new pictures, but may be of the same subjects.

George -
How many women in tight pants do you have on that layout Willie? 20 or more?
Many more than 20! ;)
Curt - I fall under the look but don't touch edict as well. I do get chastised for looking too long though!:(
Hope that you're feeling better soon.
Smudge - Yes we do have a PAYE system here in the states, but not everyone uses it for all things. Investment income is not covered for example. Neither is farm income, rental property income or lots of other things. There are many loopholes as well.

Everybody have a wonderful day. Stay safe and warm.

Good morning all! 23 with barely visible light snow coming down on the way to slight chance of snow and 36 for the day.

Stayed pretty busy all day yesterday with errands and appointments. Today I have an appointment with my diabetes doctor. She's probably not going to be very happy with me as my A1C is likely to be up quite a bit. I've really been struggling with keeping my blood sugar in the target range for the last few months. Not sure why because I used to do really well with it.

After the doctor there is a slight chance I may make it to the closest LHS about 80 miles from here and about 60 miles from my doctor's office. Hoping to get there but need to see what the wife has planned.

Nothing much to report. Back to work tomorrow for one day and then have the weekend off. Hope you all have a great day!

I like Luke Towan, do not know Kathy Millat. I think he deserves a knock back for the effort he puts in.

Nothing wrong with tight pants,in fact it stops tits talking photos of your underwear with their phones

Ken, I know the feeling about the diabetes. I went off the rails in September as my daily numbers went up. 3 weeks ago after consulting with a dietitian who specializes in diabetes I am finally getting better. I have become a carb counter instead of a sugar content looker. Over the years I have been to dietitians but none of them ever told me to count carbs and the rest will fall into place. So far so good.

best health to you
TomO
