On another note, if I find an old appliance, TV radio etc, that is destined for the dump or recycling center, I usually clip off the power cord with the plug. These come in hand for repair on other working items that need a cord.
It also allows short term power outages. Power flickers and short three minutes outages etc can be overcome.
That’s so dumb. But once you take off the cover to put the new battery in hopefully the connection point for the cord is accessible and you can just completely put in a new cord.
Anyway, that power cord should be an easy fix after some un-bundling. Give it a look. Suspect you won't have more than 30 minutes into it. Ya, your time vs company money. I know what I would do.

I think they have the STFU act and if you don't you might fall out of a high-rise building. Or be given a new job in Siberia.In fact, they have the complete opposite view of that act!

Thursday the battery for the UPS at my work station failed. It was 5 years old, so it was time to replace the battery. I disconnected the UPS from power and the computer, and requisitioned a replacement battery. It’s an easy-swap battery, taking about 30 seconds to change, and a new battery is $22.
Today, I came in to work, and one of my coworkers had decided to help me out “for safety”. He cut the power cord off flush with the case and threw the cord away. Why in the world he would throw away the cord and leave the now useless UPS sitting on my desk is beyond me.
Now, instead of a $22 battery, the company has to eat a $150 UPS plus shipping costs.
This is one of the reasons the company was struggling. Multiply this action times several hundred employees every day…

Sorry.........What exactly what is a UPS? I thought they were a delivery company.

A UPS is an Uninterruptible Power Supply. It’s basically a battery backup that kicks in if your power goes out, leaving you time to save files and shut stuff down before the battery drains.
It also allows short term power outages. Power flickers and short three minutes outages etc can be overcome.

Happy Saturday to all on the forum...............
Last evening, I started the rebuild on an Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 that has a cracked gear that turns the drive belt. I completed cleaning the old grease from the driver axles and cleaned the back of the drivers and copper power pick-up contacts. I hope to re-assemble the drivers/side rods to the lower frame tonight and move on to the new gear install. I hope to have some photos of this operation and I'll post later.
I have also started work on the Walthers stock pen kit that goes with the Champion Meat Packers kit. Some photos later as things progress.
I don't believe anyone posted this. Only some of the older crowd will remember.

Steven Lee Cropper (October 21, 1941 – December 3, 2025), sometimes known as "The Colonel", was an American guitarist, songwriter and record producer. He was the guitarist of the Stax Records house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, which backed artists such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie Taylor and Neil Young. He also acted as the producer of many of these artists' records. He was later a member of the Blues Brothers band. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 36th on its list of the 100greatestguitarists. He won two Grammy Awards out of his seven nominations.
He became a founding member of the Stax house band Booker T. & the M.G.'s, along with Hammond organ player Booker T. Jones, bassist Lewie Steinberg (who was replaced by Donald "Duck" Dunn soon thereafter) and drummer Al Jackson Jr. As a house guitarist, he played on many recordings such as "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay", co-written with and performed by Otis Redding and Sam & Dave's "Soul Man" on which he was mentioned by name. When Cropper played on the song's remake by the Blues Brothers, lead singer John Belushi again mentioned Cropper. On the early Stax recordings, Cropper is known to have played a 1956 Fender Esquire and later used a blonde Fender Telecaster.
I remember Steve Cropper most from the Blues Brothers.
Along with influential work with Booker T & The MG's, Cropper co-wrote "Knock on Wood" with Eddie Floyd, "In the Midnight Hour" with Wilson Pickett and "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" with Otis Redding. In 1969, Cropper released his first solo album, With a Little Help from My Friends.
In 1991, Cropper played on two separate nights of the Guitar Legends, Seville 1991 concerts as part of the celebration of Seville hosting the 1992 Expo exhibition. The concerts over five nights included some of the world's best guitarists such as Cropper, Keith Richards, BB King, Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, Bo Diddley, Brian May, Albert Collins, Bob Dylan, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai.
In 1992, Booker T. & the M.G.'s were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Cropper appeared with a new line-up of the group for the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary concert, in October 1992 at Madison Square Garden, where they performed Dylan's songs in tribute.
The concert was recorded and later released as The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration (1993).
In June 2004, Cropper appeared with Dunn and Jones as the backing band for Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival, held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Others who appeared included Joe Walsh and David Hidalgo. On June 9, 2005, Cropper was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Terry: When I was doing monitor repair, some kind soul would cut the power cord ( before there was the female connection on the cord ) and the owner would still want it looked at. I had a 'kill me quick' so I could pop the case off, and alligator clip 120Vac in. They were still standing there as I made them wait the 5 minutes-ish to do that. Then power the monitor. Most of the time there was something wrong with the raster, colors or both, sometimes dead. They would get a quote on that outcome.
Anyway, that power cord should be an easy fix after some un-bundling. Give it a look. Suspect you won't have more than 30 minutes into it. Ya, your time vs company money. I know what I would do.

More on the UPS devices. Here are some examples. I’m not recommending these or any specific ones or Amazon. It was just handy to find examples. They are big or small or even heft rack mount versions for server farms.
I usually use them on my desktops and important things like routers and cable modems etc, though I haven’t yet installed them in our new house.
There are also site UPS devices that can power a whole building for a short duration.

You get several years out of them and they’re cheap to replace the battery inside the UPS. I suspect they don’t have the problem that Lithium batteries do when left for long periods at full charge.
