Phil this overly sensitive hi-tech stuff has moved beyond us. Besides the fact I am too worn down, that is why I leave the work to the professionals. Although I do like to pick their brain when I have my vehicles serviced and I do pump my own gas!
I have not been up to date on auto's since 1994 I finished my career turning wrenches as an industrial mechanic. Some of the equipment I worked on was built in the 40s and was still going strong and the pay was good.
Louis- They're correct. I forgot the pistons move in/out to take up the slack. Ah well. As long as they work.
I was never a mechanic but I used to be able to diagnose auto problems. Dem days is long gone.

Never mind Louis, I too reckon all the good cars came to an end in the 80's. If you were to plonk me behind the steering wheel of a new car (do they still have them?) I wouldn't know what to do first. Start the engine before you even get into them?????????
Evening All,
It's cooler today. I think the high was 66 F, tomorrow is supposed to be a little lower than that. Tomorrow is laundry day and putting detail parts on the layout. Today I put together
6 oil tanks on legs (white metal kits). I also made 2 signal flags that will placed on my 2 towers and I scraped off my homemade tower signs also. I found a seller on Ebay that makes HO wood PRR tower and station signs with whatever you want on them. They are unpainted, so I will need to do that.
I know almost nothing about car repair, so for me it goes to the shop when something is wrong.
I hope everyone has a good night.

You start my wife's new car before you get into it. That way, it's already started to warm up or cool off, depending on what the weather is.
I have to admit I do love the remote starters and the heated seats

Some of those statements are what I needed to think about before I approached the service(probably should have before mentioning it to general manager). I had 3/32" left on the rear pads. I was told by infiniti that there is not enough pressure in the system when the pads get that low. I guess that's the reason for setting off the sensors. After I googled the issue, it is a well known scenario with Infinitis. I need to ask service at what point are the pads deemed "good". I would have thought they would have at least mentioned that the pads were that low since I was specifically asking about their condition.
Say Corey, What you said you were told by Inifinity is a line of BS. I've replaced the pads a number of times on my '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST that has 4 wheel disk breaks. As said before, by Phil I think, the break system is a sealed system and the only reason for break fluid needing to be added periodically to the master cylinder is break pad wear unless you have a leak somewhere and you would see that either on the tires or wheels or where ever you park your car near the tires.
If what you were told was the case you'd have brake failure due to the caliper piston not getting enough break fluid to it to push it against the heavy plate on back of pad and compress/squeeze the pads against both sides of the rotor which would cause break failure. There is only a very slight clearance between the pads and the rotors so that is highly unlikely you'd loose breaking ability.
The screeching noise you were hearing was probably the bi-metal wear sensor on the pad rubbing against the rotor to warn you that the pads were getting on the thin side.
Now if you have power breaks loosing pressure might be the issue they were referring to but it certainly shouldn't prevent you being able to apply your breaks provided there was enough break fluid in the master cylinder and in every car I seen they've always had a good size holding resivour just to compensate for break pad wear. Although it pays to periodically check the fluid level to ensure it's near full. If there is a rubber bulb type thing it might be sucked down from the lid if the fluid is down quite low. So push it back up in the cap and add more fluid. Most of the newer cars require Dot 3 or 4 fluid. Most NAPA stores are very well up on what each car requires.
The front breaks do about 70% of the breaking and hence they wear quicker and in my car usually about every third or forth set of front break pads I'll need to replace the rear pads.
Fluid in the system isn't going to get any junk in it as it's a sealed system. Usually when I do my breaks I suck a fair amount of the fluid out from the master cylinder so when I compress the large caliper piston back there is room for the fluid to back up into the master cylinder so I have the room for the new pad to be dropped into place and then the caliper and piston is again lowered down to surround both pads and the large bolt replaced and tightened.
Good morning lads...
One more shift to go, before the weekend!
Hope that you're all doing well...

IN MEMORIAM - JEFFREY WIMBERLY
Good morning everybody!
31 with clear skies in southeast Baltimore.
Another Perfect Day! That is also the name of great old Motorhead LP for those of us who enjoy old hard rock/punk/heavy metal noise, like me! I said noise to save those who don't enjoy that music the trouble of typing it. I know what some think of my favorite music, but I really don't care what anyone thinks, I love it!
Have a great day everybody!

I will admit it King Toot, I have gone soft! Physically and mentally, but no soft rock for me, hard rock or no rock. Except for Christmas music, but that won't begin again until after Halloween.
I love your new addition to your signature line, how true it is!!!

When I want some hard rock Louis, I go for a drive in my little 88 Honda CRX coupe. Like a go-kart. Fun.
Ahh Music - I'm afraid I am one of those that can't stand Punk, Heavy Metal or any of the stuff they call music now a days - rap and techno and other, almost solely, computer generated rubbish.
I do like Rock Ballads though by people bands such as Poison, but have a general preference for the U2's and older bands/performers. These days though, I probably lean more toward country, real country, not some of the stuff that is referred to as country. By and large though, I like to listen to music where the words are intelligible.
Like Louis though, I don't care what others think of my music preferences either

A while back, I've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar....I bought this..
Hey
Tony! How cool is it to see your posts in the coffee shop? TOO COOL!!! I should bring up music more often!
King Toot; little cars, rough roads, God help me! That is not my kind of hard rock! By the way how did you get paroled?! I would think with your repeat offenses you would have a life sentence!
113 your old school rock n roll is part of the foundation of my favorite music late 60s, 70s and early 80s hard rock/punk/metal music. I appreciate it's importance, but id rather not listen to it
I even like some of these new metal bands Slip Knot, Mudvayne and other crazy young people I have no idea what they call themselves, but they ROCK! LONG LIVE ROCK n ROLL!
Today's X-Factor infested noise, is not music, it's......I have no idea! lol
Never been a fan of said metal music Louis, but then again, I do like a tune or two of AC DC, Metallica, must be a mood thing....lol
Some good stuff in the 70's as well, T Rex just to mention one...
I like what I like and that's all folks.
Somebody bang a gong!
She lives down the coast....
