If you think the NASCAR drivers drive fast, at least they are on a track, but the anus drivers on the streets are N U T S !!!!
I used to take patients to the hospital just down the road.

IN MEMORIAM - JEFFREY WIMBERLY

Morning all. 24 degrees out here. Don't know what the skies are as it is still dark, but I am sure it's up there.

Verizon Tech replaced the main box on the side of the house; He said that he had 14 boxes in the neighborhood to replace due to an Edison transformer blowing and when power was switched it caused a surge. Anyway, glad to have communication with the world back, but I see that nothing has changed .. Still same!

Supposed to be in the 70's all week with clear skies. Hope so! The cloudy, Rainey days caused my solar power to place me in a negative for the month with the electricity gods. Earned a credit of $57 for all of last year. Hope this year will too!

Now, where was I?

Howdy

we are enjoying our Orlando vacation.

I met Curt and I will say he is a very good guy. Flip (Phil) is sick and could not join us , but I talked with him on the phone.

Weather is nice enough for my wife and I to enjoy the swimming pool. Actually, she likes pols more than I do..

Cheers !

Evening All,

I really enjoyed my visit with Garry today, and he is a great guy. It is a shame he lives so far away from me.

After I got back to the house it was clean house day. After that I installed my last Digitrax UP-5 and 3 throttle pockets on the inside walk area on the layout. My son asked me to help him install some battery powered LED's in a Terminator tank model he is making so I ordered what I needed for his job.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good evening/morning everyone,
Hi Flo & Francine, it's nice you ladies always keep the coffee shop open for us.

The weather earlier today around 2:00 Pm., was mildly overcast with clouds forming. It's now 8:02 Pm and still partly cloudy. Per WW it's 41.4 °F - Feels Like 38 °F, Winds are from the East at 5.8 mph and the Humidity is 89% but dropping 84% by 11:00 Pm. The high today was 57 °F and the low tonight will be 32 °F.

I stayed up quite late, till 4:30 Am., working on my trains and layout last night and this morning. I found I had a bit of bad track work on the area where the track traverses Amalgamate Hill on the original lower line so I had to pull the spikes from the wood ties and re-gauge the the rail and drill new spike holes to correct. I think the only reason I don't get fired is I'm the only engineer on the line. The spot where the track was out of gauge was where the new section of rail starts another block as well as the fact I don't use any rail joiners, I just have to watch my gauging fairly closely. The interesting thing was that it never caused any problems due to the fact the it was on the outside rail of a Right-hand curve so the cars were being pulled away from the trouble spot.

I also had been using two rocks to denote the staggered gaps in the rails so I decided I apply some diluted Yellow Carpenters glue to the sound board to give it a firm surface and then I found some little real Oak stumps I cut from oak branches in the past and applied Hobby Tack to the base of three stumps and applied two at the site of the re-gauged track as well as by a spot on the upper line where another gap is between block sections.

Next my attention was drawn to the two Old Time Climax Loco's and the fact that they are both saddle tank Loco's but had no provision to Add Water so I found amongst my spare parts that I had a couple of suitable filler posts with a bit of a larger
end head/cap and drilled a hole between the Sand dome and the steam dome of each Loco and inserted the new filler posts.
I then operated both climaxes independently and they each fairly well. The newest OT Climax I assembled from a powered chassis and I'm not sure how much time it had on it but I was having a problem with the open-frame motor running smoothly as it should. Upon checking I found the commutator plats of the Armature where bridged across them which was the main problem so I removed the spring wire from one brush arm allowing it to be repositioned to give me easy access to the communicator and used a small jewelers screw driver with a thin blade to it, I really should have a small brass strip that I can hold with tweaser's to do the job but either works to gently run back and forth to remove any bridging crud leaving a clean gap between plates. Next I used a strip of heavier card stock and holding it between tweeser's again ran it back and forth between the plates being sure to push it in far enough to reach the bottom of each grove attempting to soak up any Oil and crud that may be down there which can also short out the plates and cause problems. Then I used a soft pencil eraser to hold against the communicator plates while rotated the Armature which really cleans the the plates nicely. I put it back together and off it went and much smother even at slow speed.

Then I decided I wanted to watch the little hand car with the two guys pumping run the length of my point to point I have at present which goes from the lower area up the fairly steep 6 to 8% grade to the upper section and across the Whiskey siding over to where the upper line starts to go around Amalgamate hill. While it ran it was very sporadic in operation and stopped more that it ran but I noticed if I held it by the two side frames and gently pushed down on it, it ran much better so the solution was to add more weight.
What came to mind were a couple of lead barrels I cast when I was about 15 yrs old I think and that I still had, casting flashing and all, amongst my extra parts with some wood barrels. These are crude bu any means as I didn't know what to use as a medium to make the mold with but Dad did have some wood filler so that's what I used. So I used my small files and to clean up the barrel after I cut the base sprue off with my band saw and then filed the base slightly.

They sure wouldn't win any prises and a bit bigger than the sides of the little hand car platform but a bit of super glue and they were both held in place. Now when I again tried the little Hand Car it ran much better due to better electrical contact as well as better traction and much slower which looks a lot more prototypical and it move along fairly steadily even up my fairly steep grades which it had a problem gaining traction on prior.

So that what happened when I was having a good night

Hope you all have a good night.

Good morning. It's icy and 27. Looking forward to the morning slide in to work. 25 miles of ID10Ts that leave their brains at home when the weather gets bad...
