It's just gone 3:05pm here, indoor temp is hitting 90f, which is high, but not as high as could be, there's a high overcast cloud cover though that is making it stifling and an effort to move. Like me to send you a bit of it.

Allow me to throw down some awesome news upon you good brethren.
I think we are all still trying to get our heads around it - including Dr. Shakir my primary onco doc.
We a follow appt. from yesterday's PET/CT scan.
To be honest I was scared and anxious. This was a full-body scan. Not only were we going to see the primary site and hopefully see reduction in tumor size but we would also get to see if the shit had spread and to where and how far and bad.
The last full body scan was Sept. 26.

He put the before picture up first and no explanation was needed there.
The "after" picture came up right next to it. I don't know about anyone else in the room but the thoughts going through my head was to wonder if we were looking at the same patient. I was speechless.
Dr. Shakir has remarked a number of times how impressed with the tumor's size reduction but it hasn't really registered with me since I see it every day. Well today was different in a very dramatic way.
Like I said, speechless. Completely "gob smacked" as the Brits would say! All I could muster was "WOW!".
I'm going to talk to the Dr. and see if he would get me a screen shot of the those 2 images side-by-side like he showed us this morning so I can share it with everyone.

I'll go so far to say that if I wasn't the patient and know a little something about this case I would not have believed it except to call it close to a miracle especially given the time frame of less than 3 months.
We were all hoping for results like this but none of us really believed it would happen.
I'm still blown away.

Now for what comes next.... I'll post that separate from this outstanding news because I don't want to ruin theme. It's quite scary and I'll leave it at that for now.

If anyone needs some up close and personal vouching for the power of prayer, just let me know.
Specifically in the jawbone/mandible area it went from appearing to be completely blacked out like someone blacking out something for a redaction and then making a copy of it. Compare that to a completely cancer free healthy jaw except for a 5 teeth missing, it's completely spotless.

ERIC -- That is just the best Christmas present any of us could wish for. Wonderful news!
NOW .. If we can just get some meat on those bones; for God's sake, man, eat a sandwich!

That would be great except how am I supposed to eat? I still can't chew or swallow solid food.
The cancer is still there and is about to be attacked even harder now that it got a big whammy layed down on it. In fact at times now I'm starting to have difficulty swallowing so I'm not out of the woods by any stretch.
But today's news was about the most positive tangible thing we've seen happen thus far so I was happy to share something positive.Things are likely fixin to not be so good here in a few weeks. But I don't want to bust the positive thing happened. I sure needed it!

Good afternoon Rail Workers & Spike Drivers,

Hi Flo & Francine, Your keeping Jeffreys' Dinner nice and warm on this cold day. How about a cup of joe and a Apple Fritter. Thanks. There are several fellows I haven't seen here in a while, like: Rex, Joe/Boris, Ray or Rico. Anyone know what happened to them?

It's been quite cold due to all the moisture in the air. It's also been foggy at times.

I haven't done much today other than keeping the fire going. Yesterday afternoon I went back up on the roof over the living room and put a few more patches here and there hoping to stop some of the leaks that were dripping on the front porch ceiling and then down on the porch. One was just outside the front door. So I hope my efforts did some good as in the past.

As far as the work on my Garden tractor I need to put more Green Slime into the Left front tire as well as both rear tires as the all seem to have minor leaks but first I want to check the gas line for any leaks and maybe replace the hose as well as get a decent gas filter so I can see if there is any water in the gas being pumped through it so I can dump it out? I also want to check the gas tank to see if any water got into it as it sat out in the rain and I didn't have a plastic bag over the cap which has an air hole in the center of it, now I do [duh] as it been sitting out side the little metal building while I've been working on it in all the rain. So I need to do these things before I dump any gas in it to get it going so I can drive it around once I put more of the Green Slime in the tires to coat the insides of them. The gas line is extra work but I've had the tractor since the first part of 1989 and never have had to replace any of the rubber hoses on it and I'm almost sure some must need to be replaced.

Train wise I've intended to get out in the garage but just haven't but will today as I have the garage heating up and I want to start making more progress on the layout.

Sherrel: Glad Your daughter and her Marine husband are coming to stay with you awhile after your surgery. He will be a help I'm sure. The picture of the Baldwin 6-6-2000 is very interestingh for sure.
So what did you do when you pulled the all-nighter only to find out your car doors were frozen shut and he buss had gone?

Say Louis: Glad to hear your wife is safe! She must be a defensive driver which is good and her guardian Angle was watching over her too, Thank God! Glad you also didn't get hurt too badly slipping on the black ice, that can be drastic.

Willie: Sounds like your making fairly good progress with your layout, glad to hear it. I'm also glad to read that you got your hearing aide/s fixed that mean a lot I sure. A speaker a 1/16 inch in diameter, that sounds like it could have some RR applications to it!

Garry: That's getting a tad cold I'd say! Did you manage to get it open? Do the Avalanches have a completely closed off bed?

Chet: That was a cold drive alright.

Say Toot: That's a heck of a good idea about sharing the warmth. LoL

Say Ken: Your recount about your snow storm experience reminded me of driving in dense fog. I've had two experiences driving in some very dense fog and it seems like very much the same feeling except I had no-one in front of me. The last time was a couple of years ago when I had stopped in Raymond, Calif., at about 7:00 Pm, at the Old General Store to get a few pictures of the old train pictures they have hanging up, as Raymond was an SP spur line stop in the late 1890's to early 1900's as well a connection to the Granite Quarry in Knowles which is known as the Raymond Granite Quarry. Raymond is 11 East of my home but sets lower, elevation wise, than my place due to the mountain ranges between us.
It was winter time also about this time of year actually about 3 years back on Dec. 15th, keep in mind these country roads are just a two lane country road with no light of any kind except that of your car. As you leave Raymond you climb up a grade that ascends an elevation of about 350' and as I started nearing the top of this first fairly large hill it got quite foggy and I was following the white line along the Right hand edge of the road which was just barely visible. Keep in mind that driving in dense fog that is totally engulfing and causes you to loose all sense of perspective of knowing where your at, and I've been over that way to see my friend John who only lives an eight mile away from the general store numerous
times, but in fair weather. To make matters worse this back road is as twisty and crooked as a dogs hind leg as the old saying goes, one turn after the next. So a I reach the top of the first hill and make a curve to the Left, then to the Right and then it seems like I'm supposed to turn Left again but I notice that the white line I was following is no longer there but maybe it ended? Actually, what happened is that the road makes wye and splits and I should have stayed to the Right but turned Left without realizing it. You need to realize there are no street lights to guide you. So I keep on cautiously driving while trying to some point of reference and after a mile and dropping down a hill I knew should be that close I turned around and doubled back till I got to the the wye intersection again and made a Left which put me back on the Raymond Rd. and headed back to my place. I think it took me about 1.5 hours to get to my driveway and I was fairly well stressed out as your lost in your own surrounds due to the fog.

That's it for now, I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

Eric, that's great news that battles are being won, the path to victory is going well.

We've got a big boomer heading our way after the oppressive heat of this afternoon, so I'll shut down till it passes.

Great news E!!!

I look at your situation like a baseball game, because that's how I relate to most things, I'm a simple man. :)

First couple of innings you had your hat handed to you. Than you finally stopped the other team from scoring in the next inning. Now you are mounting your comeback!

From your post I'd say you have just about pulled this game even. Now you keep playing hard and we keep praying that you take the lead and close this game out!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you brother!

Say Louis: Glad to hear your wife is safe! She must be a defensive driver which is good and her guardian Angle was watching over her too, Thank God! Glad you also didn't get hurt too badly slipping on the black ice, that can be drastic..

Amen David, you hit the nail on the head!

Thank you so much for the kind words :) God be with you my friend!

Good Morning All. A bit warmer today at 23° and mostly cloudy. We get back to near normal today with a high in the mid-50's, maybe 70° on Christmas day. Hooray. I can hear with the right ear again now. The Costco hearing aid center replaced the "receiver", which is actually a wire from the hearing aid to the earbud. Not only that, but the lady also gave me some extra ones plus a tool for changing them myself...demonstrated it as well. She also gave me a bag full of other goodies, replacement ear pods, tiny speakers (1/16" diameter), cleaning tools etc., all because I told her I had to make an 80 mile round trip to see her! Did I say all of this was free? I recommend them (Costco) to anyone who needs hearing aids. But, this is also the second time that they had replaced that same "receiver".
Trainwise, I fiddled some more with track and turnouts attempting to get the look that I want. Temporarily out of flex-track after using 20 pieces of it. I have more but it is being used on a temporary freight car storage shelf as of now, but not later today. Cars will go on bare wood for a few days until I can get the new staging tracks fastened down. If I go with the present design, I get five visible staging tracks from 18-26 cars long, plus an industrial switching lead for some low-relief buildings along the wall, as well as a bit of scenery along the front edge. More than enough storage for the cars that are on the storage shelf right now. Of course I will first rehab some of the many pieces of track that I salvaged from the previous layout!!! Need to do this anyway to free up the new stuff for the remainder of the upper level. Not going back to the LHS until mid-January.
...Louis - Really glad to hear that you and your wife are OK. Take Karl's advice and "Let's be careful out there."

Everybody have a great and safe day. Merry Christmas.

Willie
Willie I am glad to hear about your success at Costco's Hearing Aid Center. I have been trying to get my Mom to go to them, but she is as stubborn as a mule, must run in the family.

I highly recommend Costco for EVERYTHING, except for produce and meats, they tend to be a bit high priced on those items. The executive membership is worth every penny. Cash back rebate can pay for the extra cost, I have my auto insurance through them, I even have them print my checks for me and so much more. Best part about Costco is they stand behind everything they sell.

Thanks for the kind words and bet your bottom dollar I am extra careful now. I don't want to make a bad situation worse.

OMG Louis! Thank God she's OK, I've seen the videos from Saturday. Scary stuff! SWMBO was supposed to take her real estate license test Saturday in Bmore. Luckily it was cancelled, now scheduled for New Years eve.
Amen Karl, it was unreal how slippery it turned in a matter of minutes. Don't worry when you bring the stuff and I promise I won't be in the hospital. If I am, God forbid, sell the stuff on ebay for me because Hopkins owns Bayview now and they are some money hungry over priced heartless sons of ... When my sister was battling cancer Hopkins dropped her like a hot potato as soon as her insurance had reached the maximum benefit. Another good part of the ACA is no more maximum benefit limits.

Louis - Sorry to hear about your wife's accident but happy she's alright. Hope you're feeling better also.

Thank you Chet and thank you for telling me about your experience. I had not considered the rotator cuff. Mine was already partially torn. I have separated my left shoulder 3 times, I think that was why it was able to slip back in on it's own. Playing semi-pro football for $50 a game seems really stupid now looking back, but I had fun and they did pay medical expenses.

LOUIS -- Sure happy that the spousal unit is OK. Sounds as if it could have been much worse. Happy to hear that you sustained, maybe, little damage too! Out here we don;t need "black ice" to crash ... All you have to do is turn on the TV early in the morning and see where all the crashes are. I think there were 7-8 pretty good ones this morning ... and it's a daily occurrence. I really hate getting older, but at least I don't have to fight that freeway traffic twice a day - and it's getting to the point that it is badly jammed no matter what time of day.

Thank you Sherrel, I am amazed by how much traffic there is today and the drivers are more aggressive then ever.

Afternoon All,

Went to see Rouge 1 with my son. He really liked it and I thought it was OK. No idea what is planned for tomorrow.

Louis- Thankfully both of you are OK.
Curt it could have been much worse for both of us, thank God for our minor problems.

Louis - sorry to hear your wife was involved in the 67-vehicle pile-up; glad she wasn't injured!

Speaking of harrowing winter driving experiences: I was driving from from Chicago to Baltimore in February 1974, sleep-deprived, on the PA turnpike thru a Lake-effect snowstorm at ~2am. Every horizontal surface was completely white and all I could do was follow the tail lights of the car in front of me; otherwise I had no way of knowing where the pavement was, let alone what lane I was in. And fighting to keep myself awake thru all this. I was totally ecstatic when the exit ramp for Breezewood, PA [an oasis of motels] finally came into view what seemed like hours later!

Ken I am not sure how many cars were in the pile. I think the 67 car accident was the one involving the tanker fire, south of the fort McHenry tunnel. That accident prevented the one my wife was involved in from being worse because all traffic going to the tunnel was shut down. My wife was just north of the tunnel. My son showed me his phone app Saturday morning and there were hundreds of accidents in and around the Baltimore metro area.

Your experience sounds like a nightmare, thank God you are here to tell about it!

Good evening fellers! Sorry I ain't been around much. Family and more family. My vacation has been one family outing for sure. At any rate I finally got some time for trains today. Decided to dig into one of my Athearns to see what the deal is with the flashing headlights. Athearn wanted me to send one in so they could look at it. Found out that grease has gotten all over the pickups. Cleaned the wheels again to insure there isn't a problem with them. They were rather clean to say the least. Cleaned off the grease and no more flashes! Problem solved. So good news there. One unit down two to go.

Sent from my LGLS675 using Tapatalk

Chessie I think Terry had mentioned that is a common problem with those locomotives, I'm glad to hear you have it sorted out.

Time for me to get ready for another day. I billed 37 hours since my injury, not bad for a one armed bandit!

Enjoy the Holidays!

Good Morning All. It's a balmy 35° and mostly cloudy this morning. Made it up to 56° yesterday, today is supposed to be ten degrees warmer. Going grocery/beer shopping this morning, a day earlier than normal to avoid the last minute crowds.
Out in the train shed, I fiddled some more with track and think I have finalized the area. I should end up with a staging yard that will hold 5 trains with 80+ cars at max capacity. I will still have to swap power and restage by hand mostly, but classification yards aren't really my thing anyway. I could still use a yard switcher, but it would require using the "entry main" as the yard lead.

Eric - While I know that it isn't over yet, that is great news so far. Keep with the program, and you'll be back in Acworth in no time!
Justin - Don't be too concerned about not spending time here if you're doing family stuff.
Louis - I understand your mother's feelings. I never wanted to admit that I needed them (hearing aids), but I would go to daily morning meetings at work with 13 others, and I could only really understand 2-3 of them. After the meeting was over, I would go to a fellow manager's office and ask him what we discussed.
Ken in Md - I'll get some pictures today.

You all have a great day and have a Merry Christmas.

Willie

Good morning, everyone. Leave the pot right here, ma'am.
31 and clear here in SW Missouri. Will be in the 40's most days and 20s-30s at night into next week.

Beady - beautiful photos of the Pere Marquette 1225. Love the look of steam and flying snow!!

Chet - glad you made it home okay - but Missoula? - - man, you travel a long way to go bowling :) You must be really dedicated to it!

Willy - I worked on Merchant's Row IV yesterday - finished the painting and got all the windows in - now I have to recover my eyesight!

Eric - Great news! Hurrah! Prayer works. The miracle will continue. We're all pulling for you!

Got the top screwed down on the second section, leveled it to the adjacent sections, got third section ready to screw the top on. Noticed an imperfection in the lineup - I've got a gap that tapers from a quarter inch down to nothing between sections 2 and 3, which are 8-foot long sections that butt up against each other in the corner - due either to slightly warped wood or walls that are not flat/square - sure couldn't be operator mismeasurement, could it? :) I can fill with wood filler - it will all be covered with scenery anyway, and one track will cross that part.

I probably won't be on the forum until after new years - won't have much access to a computer or the Internet until then. I'll lurk today, then sign off.

I wish you each a very merry Christmas and a great new year! Keep your locos on the rails (or keep your stick on the ice - whichever fits).
Johnny (Raincoat2)

Good morning. Time for a cup. (or two). 26 degrees to start off the day. Did make it up into the low 40's yesterday.

Eric - That is some great news. You are fight back and seem to be getting the upper hand. Hoping that in the near future that you will be able to eat real food again. I can remember talking to you on the phone a long time ago when you first were having problems. Praying that you will be able to chow down again real soon.

Johnny - We do enjoy our bowling. We have been on a league with the same couple for over 20 years. We do attend numerous tournaments during the year. Most across the state, but we also compete in national tournaments. My friends wife and I took third place in nationals a few years ago in Reno, NV and took home checks for $2,700 apiece. It's not so much for the bucks, but the competition I guess. The trips are fun and we also visit different attractions in the area. I do enjoy the ones in Nevada. We did Las Vegas and Reno last year, but doing 2 in the same week didn't give us much time to do much else. When we go to Reno, Virginia City isn't too far away and we'll usually take a trip on the Virginia & Truckee RR.

037.jpg 056.jpg

We have also stopped by Ely, NV to visit the Nevada Northern Railway, another place to enjoy steam railroads. This years I think we are going to Baton Rouge for one tournament and Reno again. We don't fly because there's so much to see on a road trip across the country. (Also, the airlines charge you for everything and transporting our bowling equipment on the airlines just about pays for the trip when you add in car rental) We just have fun and enjoy the country.

Louis - You should have your arm taken care of. I put it off for almost two years before I finally listened to the other half. Made all the difference in the world.

Time to get something done. The coffee was good, but back to work.

Later.

Morning Railroad Lovers!
It's a spanking 59 degrees at 7:20 this morning! Looks as if there is a "chance" of rain for the next three days .. hmmm?
Ok .. yesterday turned out to be 79 for a high -- beautiful, bright, and sunny! Today is only forecast for 69.

Johnny Raincoat - Merry Christmas to you and yours; see you after the holidays. I would lay money on the wall not being plumb. Can't believe what I have worked on during my life with older houses - and newer ones too - with walls being off with warped studs and such!

CA David - No cell phones back in those days, and the bus only ran on a half hour schedule. I stood there freezing and walking around for 10-12 minutes and lucked out with someone coming in to work - got to sit in the car with them while waiting on the bus to return. Back at the terminal and called the B-Unit for a ride. Just left the car in the lot until the temp warmed up a couple days later.
Your driving experience in the fog must have been nerve racking. As the saying goes - Been there done that! Not a pleasant feeling. I can see how some of the multi car pile ups happen.

Back atcha later ..

Mornin all! I had frost on my truck windows this morning, can you believe it? The agony of living in South Carolina. Only getting into the 50's today. Last night my step son and I cleaned out some more in the "designated train area", making progress. Still tweeking my layout ideas.

If you're looking for sympathy because you had frost on your truck this morning, It ain't gonna come from me.

hysterical-laughter-smiley-emoticon.gif It's even worse if a snowflake shows up.
