Even with gremlins, this is still the best railroad forum around.
Yes it is. Hey Mikey, I know you're a vehicle guy, and I know I gave you a heads up on these, but I wanted you to see one. Sierra West has expanded its vehicle offerings. the stuff is 3D printed, very highly detailed, and looks awesome. My daughter bought this for me for Christmas and I wanted to show you what you get:

Here's the kit:

You go to his site to download the instructions. It's a smart way to do things. The bad news: They're as we say in Wisconsin "kinda spendy"! The good stuff always is, I guess. With Classic Metal Works stuff at $15-20, and Oxford getting up there I'm not surprised, but look at the detail. Holy smoke. Anyhoo...for your preusal! The Captain would have liked these. I miss him!

Good Morning sports fans! And everyone else. 62 in the Brew City this morning, going to 78 today, maybe some rain later in the afternoon. We'll see. The grilling session was a success. The daughter took food home, and the wife and I have leftovers for a couple of meals. I find cooking ahead fits the retirement gig very well. Going downtown to see the club's Treasurer today. His health is failing and he had to resign. Since there was not a stampede of volunteers to assume those duties, yours truly volunteered. I know, right? I told people after the Navy I had filled my quota of volunteering for anything, but the job needs done and I have control issues, so here we are. 🤷‍♀️ Now for the good news: my GGD passenger cars arrived. Photos and commentary over on my passenger car thread soon. Picked up a new wristwatch Saturday. A nice little Seiko chronograph. Watches are another of my hobbies. Think trains are expensive? You aint seen nothin yet! 🤣🤣 Worse than guns, which I also have a thing for. Hobbies keep you engaged and your mind sharp. So I tell myself and the wife anyway. 😁 Enjoy your day!

“Kinda spendy” geez Louise I haven’t herd that in a week!

Good morning from my part of the Badger State west of Espeefan’s part of the Cheese State. The weather is coming. 63f degrees now 80 later with a 24% chance of rain by 8:00am. I am not holding my breath for the rain

I did a stupid, dumb, idiotic thing yesterday. I took the grandson to the new Top Golf facility in Madison yesterday. It opened last Friday and it is a gorgeous operation. SWAL (George) will understand and appreciate this as a golfer. You always, always warm up before you swing a club no matter your age but ESPECIALLY if you are getting close to 74 years old. Well I didn’t. 1st shot not bad, terrible second shot 3rd shot almost perfect but had me on the floor in pain. The instant the club face hit the ball something in my left hip said, you didn’t warm up and you are now paying for it. I’ve read where athletes have felt the ACL or the MCL pop while running or pitchers knowing instantly they tore a ligament. Well I knew instantly I did some damage! I toughed it out for another 85 of the 90 minutes I paid for. Helped the grandson with his swing and understanding the ball placement and how the stance affects ball flight. But standing was tough but swinging the club was painful. I ended up hitting only 35 balls per the counter and Brooks 165. We used the facility as a driving range and not the goofy games that were available. This place shows the flight path and all the specs when you hit the ball. Very similar to the simulator at home but we are hitting into the outdoors. I think if he wants to get better, listens and understands his swing he could be good. But he’s still 12 and having really only started this year he’s advanced well.

Sitting down and sleeping were fine. Around 8 last night when I could do another round of ibuprofen I didn’t. Walking with a hitch though was real painful but got better as the day went. This morning the discomfort is there when I walk but it’s not the pain I was experiencing from 10:20 to around 7. If it doesn’t feel better I will call the Clinic but they will tell me you sprained or tore a muscle, nothing we can do. Rest!

In my diminished condition there is one thing I can do. Around 8 this morning I will cross the breezeway separating our space from the workshop and continue 3 of 5 projects started. Continue on with the birch tree construction, weather the pony truss bridge and glue down a 2” foam panel on the 22” x 44” assembled frame for a MOW facility

The outdoor garden bed clean up along the walls Terry supervised the grandson yesterday as I napped. He did well there too!
Enjoy the day

Morning folks.

I started out vacuuming around 0900 yesterday morning and ended up re-arranging my music room/den. A most of the day project along with a load of laundry. I turned in at 2300 and thought I would sleep until 0800 after yesterday's furniture moving. Up at 0550, but I slept like a rock. I don't remember waking even once to glance at the clock.

Hips hurt a bit this morning, but surprisingly, my back is fine after lifting a 79 pound guitar amp as high as my shoulders, and a slightly lighter amp up to my chest. Plus, assorted concrete blocks, tables, and book cases. Still full of books.

About 1000 I'm going to see about cutting the large patch of fescue before it gets out of hand again.

Temp and dewpoint is reasonable for August at 68°F/68°F, or 100% humidity. Areas of St. Louis reported fog this morning. None here though.

Have a good Tuesday!

Servus!

I was the only one left when we organized the Lake DuBay Lions Club in Knowlton, Wi in around 1980. Treasurer for 4 years and a thankless job but one critical to a club. Congratulations Alan!

We had 3 bank officers in the group and they were the auditors and I looking back am so happy they did. We had a member that could not understand how Terry and me could afford our house on the lake and told the IRS I had to be stealing in year 3 as treasurer. Every penny was there and one night after bowling a mysterious bowling ball crushed his windsheild and I never got caught. About 15 years later I asked my good friend the now Mosinee Police Chief about statute of limitations and he asked why what had I done. I told him and he laughed. The police had determined though she denied it that his wife did it as he was cheating on her with her best friend! No charges ever pressed

Morning all,

65° and clear this morning. Between busy at home and busy at work...At least the temps have dropped to a reasonable (for August anyway) temperature.

Hit Bambi last night on the way home. Don't know where it's mother was. Busted the grill work and headlights on the truck. No other discernable body damage. Have to use the new insurance 4 months after switching companies. Still drove it this morning to the office.

Have a vacation planned and reservations made. We'll see how far we can get. As stated , we're doing the western half of Rt 66. Going to be brief in California as we're probably spending 4 hours in Santa Monica. Coming back we're running up to Hoover dam then back south and the taking the train to the Grand Canyon and then home in about 10 days. Next summer, we are heading to Michigan to have the Celebration of life for my parents and then will go up to Chicago and run the real road back as far as Springfield, MO. Although I can see us run it back to Kansas just because. We would have then been on at least one of the Rt 66 alignments from start to finish (or what you can still run). Kind of looking forward to it.

The swear jar will be overflowing by the time this one is finished!
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Tom! That's funny! Mosinee Police Chief, eh? My son lives in Mosinee. I'll be visiting him and the grandkids this weekend.

Yeah, this treasurer thing is going to be interesting. There's always that one guy, right? Street justice was served! I have an assistant, also newly appointed. I insisted on that as part of the deal, so there will be two sets of eyes. The last guy was a CPA, and an Anglican Priest, so I have a rather large pair of shoes to fill! :) Yeah I got the usual jokes "If you turn up in a new car, yada yada..." Funny but not, and like you, I'm a retired professional who was reasonably successful. I have something Donald Trump and Elon Musk will never have: Enough. 😁 I told them not to worry, I'm good. I know they were joking, but money does things to people. Power over money does even worse things. Makes you think.

Listening to you guys talk about things hurting struck a chord. I have a knee that doesn't like it when I carry heavy things up stairs. It tells me so. There's a hip that's beginning to sound off as well. If I woke up and nothing hurt I'd think I was dead. Old age: That period in your life where you can hurt yourself sleeping. it ain't fer sissies! A couple of weeks ago I was carrying an office chair into the house. it was boxed, and I had the box up on my shoulder. I learned this as a busboy in my youth carrying trays with twelve dinners out to the dining room: Balance a heavy load on your shoulder and to carry. Well, it worked until the front door. The top of the box hit the door frame and I went ass over teakettle onto the floor. The wife was holding the front door open, and I hit it going down and smashed her hand between the doorknob and the wall. I'm sitting there taking inventory and she's yelling "Ow ow ow!" and her hand is pinned. I moved and we were both OK other than her bruised hand and a brush burn on the knee for me. If you were watching I'm sure it would have been funny as hell. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to have Ibuprofen. Too hard on the remaining kidney. Gotta remember I'm not 50 anymore. 🤣

I do the same with ore-ida hash brown cubes, breakfast sausage and eggs. Brown up the potatos, throw in the sausage, throw in the eggs and mix them all up. Roll up with cheese in flour tortillas when cool, wrap in saran wrap to get the air out and throw into a freezer bag. Sometimes I forget about them and eat them a month or so later.
I may try that. I alternate the biscuits, sometime sausage, egg and cheese, and sometimes sausage only. I alternate with breakfast burritos. I've been buying those, but the little buggers are expensive! Do you use links and chop them up, or just fry up sausage meat?

Good Morning All. Clear and 77°; looking forward to 108° again today. That's 13 days in a row of triple-digits. Same forecast for the next ten days.

Another boring day on the SFW estate yesterday, highlighted by burgers on the grill. I think today might be another laundry day. Fish tacos for supper.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was another day of piddling around. Added a couple of vehicles to two scenes. Wired up another structure for lighting. Dabbed some various colors of paint on a few more figures. I ran three trains, all locals switching various industries. One exchanged 16 empties for full covered hoppers at my biggest grain elevator; another exchanged 16 tankers at the Ethanol refinery. The third switched out various industries in the industrial park in Maultown. I used SD40-2 road power for both of the unit exchanges and GP30u's for the mixed freight run. My industries have been busy.
Regarding the ongoing figure painting; I have stopped looking for the stash of pre-painted Chinese figures that I may have misplaced. Maybe I have already re-painted them all! I'll just fix and paint some of the unpainted ones that I found, during in-between projects periods. I also have between 80-100 unpainted Preiser figures and some Atlas ones that I know the location of.

Tom O - So you left us hanging, what happened to the arts & crafts fair?
I looked up the menu at that Wedl's place. Quite a variety of offerings from such a small place.
Kevin - Hoarder??? What's that?, from a person who has a dozen boxes under the layout marked "Stuff". At least it's marked!!!
John - Looks like they just used our weather forecast for you as well.
Patrick - Glad that you are safe from your encounter with Bambi.

Y'all need to quit reminding me that I am getting older!;)

The late Marvin Isley, bassist for the legendary Isley Brothers, was born on this day in 1953. Diabetes got him at age 56 in 2010.

Everyone have a wonderful Tuesday.

Good morning all!

First time I was actually able to get in. Tries several times this morning and gave up!

Started out sunny this morning and clouds are begining to build. Currently its 72F and our high will be around 80F. Yesterday there was
no rain forecasted for the entire week, but today there Is a chance of scattered rain showers. They just added it not too long ago.

Already have laundry going and the dishwasher is empty, Wife has meetings at work so she made the rare pilgrimage to the office today,
daughter is at school so I have the whole place to myself. Doesn't happen very often anymore.

Not much else going on,

Have a safe day everyone!

I should have said the then Mosinee Police Chief. He retired when I did in 2014. Mike was a good guy.

Small world that your son lives there. Mom and dad are buried by the river by the high school and we have to get up there this Summer. Only been back a few times or when the grandson plays hockey (every other year) at the Mosinee Rec Center. We do not miss the area or politics. Most of my good friends are passed or left the area. My best friend is the current interim Mayor of Mosinee, replacing another friend who passed this year

My son doesn't like the area or the politics either, but he likes his job. He works for Wisconsin Lift, inside sales. I've been to visit a couple of times. it's pretty, but there's not much to do if you aren't an outdoorsman, and he and I are city boys. 🤷‍♀️ It was a good career move for him, and I told him to grab it. Good opportunities don't come often, and if you pass one, there may not be another. I came to Wisconsin under similar circumstances. You follow the money. Kids to feed!

Good morning folks, yeah, we don't bounce back like we used to. Anyway it is 79 here right now, heading for only 94! Gonna do some stuff on the train porch before it gets too warm, finishing up on a couple of modules for the show setup Friday. There is always more to do, but you guys understand that. Main goal is to glue down two trucks on the corner, then will call that ready and gonna try to put street lines down on the other. It may or may not get all the people I want, but it will be presentable. BP has been up the last couple days, gonna keep an eye on that. You guys have a great day.
