You know any of these bands?
Swal - I have heard of two for sure, the late Charles Bradley was a late-comer to the music business who appeared at Austin City Limits and South by Southwest. The song "Changes" was a Black Sabbath cover, but he mostly did James Brown covers, and looked like him although heavier.
Carlene Carter is the daughter of June Carter and step-daughter of Johnny Cash. She is a much troubled country singer who was involved with the late (drug overdose) Howie Epstein. He was the bass player for Tom Petty in the 80's and through the 90's. She has had drug issues all of her life. Her biological father was a very notable country singer Carl Smith.
I hadn't really heard of any of the others though.

Wife was a bit grumpy when I sat down to lunch.

Seems we're getting a new privacy fence between our patio, and the unit to the north.

The demo crew showed up right as the wife plugged into her call. Because her normal desk is all wired up, she needs a 10 minute head start to log off, pull the laptop from the docking station, head downstairs to the basement and reset, re login etc.

Too late. She got to listen to the demolition and be on the call.

Being the wise husband that I am, I had made a haircut appointment for about 15 minutes later. So I scrammed as soon as I was done with my lunch.

Came home and found this:

Our unit is to the right.

More noise tomorrow when they drill out the post holes. And on Wednesday when they put the new fence back up

Yes had some amazing talent in every position, but songwriting started to change in the early 80s. I can't stand "Owner of a Lonely Heart." But I could listen the "Heart of the Sunrise" just about any time. Bill Bruford and Chris Squire were amazing together.

Bands evolve and change with the times. While early '70s and then late 70s Yes is my favorite, I don't hate anything they did and the 80s stuff like 90125 (Owner of a Lonely Heart album) was their evolution to the pop and synth oriented 80s. All bands made adjustments as their personnel and the times changed. And it was 90125 that brought me to Yes (through radio play). And I bought their 80s album Drama (another divisive album) as my first Yes album, getting to their earlier albums later...

They once asked Keith Richards what his favorite type of music was. When he said jazz the reporters were surprised. Well you dont expect him to like the music he plays do you? That is work to him.

He's not wrong you know. Jazz and it's cousin the Blues are what I call "pure forms of music". Made to improvise over and let the player express himself and let the music out of him. Prog Rock and Jazz and Blues are my favorites for modern music to listen to, though I appreciate other forms as well (pop, etc). Then you have blues inspired Rock, which is a lot of the old school rock music, and they too have often expansive solo sections. Look at Led Zeppelin, Eagles (in their rock phase), Who, GnR, etc. Zeppelin is one of the best bands ever because of their musicality and ability to express that. They come from a heavily blues inspired background. Most of what we consider classic rock, hard rock, etc come from a blues based background to a certain extent and most of them, as I said above, feature that expressive solo section or three in a tune.

I stopped listening to the top 40 / pop stuff I had been listening to at age 10 and started listening to jazz in various forms -- nothing too deep at that age, of course -- and didn't get back to rock/pop until I was a senior in high school. And jazz has never left me as a favorite, and allowed me to appreciate the rock/pop more fully. (I'll admit to fusion style being a favorite part of the genre).

I started studying more music theory a little in my 20s/eary 30s and then later when my son at age 8 took up the bass guitar and I re-started my bass lessons with him (about 12 years ago), and we got into a lot more practical theory and music education as part of my bass lessons. (So not the high level and deep theory of a university class on paper, but a working knowledge to be able to play a jazz or blues song from a lead sheet -- Real Book -- and understand what you are doing -- on the fly analysis to find chord centers etc)

Of course, all the above, is in my opinion, and your opinion may be different.

Toss-up between Deep Purple and Neil Young with Crazy Horse. Followed closely by The Who (indoors). There was a local band called Bloodrock that used Jimi Hendrix's equipment (plus some of their own) at a concert in I believe 1970 that was also especially loud.
I saw the Who in 79 maybe? It was at the old Capital Center outside of DC they were loud!

I read somewhere Jimi Hendrix always played as loud as possible as it was his way of communicating with God. Is that true?

Favorite concert, I could never choose. I loved almost all of them!

I can say, the most surprising band I saw. Black Foot, I thought they were southern (fried) rock. When I saw them at Towson State College 1981? It was full blown heavy metal!

Afternoon All,

Got up early this morning to do a walk, but it was raining, so Nope! It rained here for about 4 hours and my pool gauge says we got about 2". My wife paroled me from the bookfair today, but daughter got sick at school, so I picked her up and drove her home and Son drove her car to her house. Speaking of son, he got into the eye specialist today. He was told the object was just being held one by the moisture of the eye. Thankfully there was no damage except to his wallet. Good news on the train front. I discovered that the problem was a bad solder on one supply wires from the main to the board. After fixing it I did several tests in both directions without issue. That's good since there are very, very few PSX-AR boards are available online (like hen's teeth). I have to pick up MOH at 4 pm. I'm not sure if I'm paroled tomorrow or not yet.

My all-time favorite concert was back in 1976 with Electric Light Orchestra. They were playing the songs from their New World Record album. It was a fabulous show. I have always enjoyed rock bands playing with orchestral instruments or orchestra.

Louis- Nice paint job on the switcher.

Terry- If I'm going in that direction, I take the SR 429 to the end in Sanford. Then get on I-4. This cuts out I-4 through Orlando.

Justin- I have the same bridge on my layout. I have 2 put together and I ordered a 3' piece of bridge track. This is long enough to give you a couple of inches past the ends of the bridge. Building it can be finicky at times.

Willie- Nice scenes.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Afternoon, RR People! Cloudy and gloomy looking here today; no rain forecast although sure looks like it could. Temp is 58 and supposed to reach 66, but it an't gonna happen. MOH decided that the house needed "picking up" as the cleaners were supposed to come? Looks as if she might have confused the date as no one here at this time.
I'm sitting on the couch watching 'Support your Local Gunfighter' with Suzanne Pleshette, James Gardner, Jack Elam, Harry Morgan. What a foxy little lady Suzanne was; too bad that she passed at such an early age. For once, Jack Elam played a nice guy and funny too - Gardner has always been a favorite of mine and the GREAT shots of the Durango to Silverton 3 foot gauge train are "the cat's meow".
The Spousal Unit and I have been watching the 'Jesse Stone' series at night - very well done!
She leaves for Dayton with the daughter and G-son tomorrow am early from J. Wayne A/P. They are on the way to see the g-son play in the national drumline meet. I sure hope that they do well - they had a state meet Saturday at the Toyota Center in Ontario in which they only placed 8th after being moved into a higher class for being so far above the others in their class and they did not have time to form a new routine for the advanced group. Kate and I both think they got screwed!

Interesting chatter on all the bands. I'm not a fan of those kind of bands - don't know why because I like most all other music that I can hear - maybe it's the ringing in my ears that tunes it out.

This Chili Sauce happens to be one of my favs! I have only seen it in one store here and when I happen to go there, I grab several to add to the stash! I will say that it is the #2 on my "hotness" scale only following one that a BIL gave me from somewhere in the Caribbean - he was a Korean ERA Marine and said that it was too hot for him!

Mexico Lindo Red Habanero Hot Sauce | Real Red Habanero Chili Pepper | 78,200 Scoville Level

drops of this will suffice for a spoonful of Sriracha; however, I just like the taste of Sriracha better!

Afternoon all,

Drove a couple hours to meet with my sister for lunch. Had a nice visit. Got back in time to get the grandkids from school. Just wasting time before painting the closet.

I wasn't really a concert goer...I had tickets once to a Dead concert in '79 but sold them for 6 times what I paid and then went to a movie instead.

Today started out with so much promise. I knew because of Wisconsin’s fickle weather it was a train room day. 4” of white stuff on the ground by 11AM and by 4PM it was pretty much gone. But the winds are still breezy at 13 mph but the gusting up to 30 is very loud.

So after breakfast I was heading down the stairs and after 2 steps almost flew to the bottom. I got dizzy and that was scary, made it to the bottom, on my butt, settled down and went back up. Basically I have spent the day upstairs on the love seat or in a chair under the big window. Not happy and while the strong dizziness is gone, I still have some. Enough still that I am staying off the stairs. So no weathering today but I am going to watch one of the NHL playoff games. Terry has gone down and brought up my tree making stuff. So I will twist a few more canopies for the Quaking Aspens. 5 canopies would be great tonight.

I have labs tomorrow at 9AM and if the dizziness is still there I will go to the reception desk and ask to see some medical person

Best wishes on the pain and dizziness, and take care of yourself.

Is your blood presser low? Or hows your hearing? Those 2 things are a cause of dizziness. When there is hearing loss it can lead to dizziness. Get it checked.

Mmmm - quite a few things can cause dizziness as I am sure you know. One of the main contributors to it is standing up too quickly or jumping out of bed or a chair too quickly. Obviously low blood pressure is an obvious and common thing as well. No matter what caused it though - a visit to the doc certainly wouldn't hurt and could alleviate some concerns.
