Good Morning All. Dense fog and 63°. The fog is so dense that the Weather Underground station around the corner actually has recorded moisture in it's rain gauge, like 0.01" without any rain. I ended up with .63" from the two brief rain/hail events yesterday. Even though some of the hail was the size of quarters, no damage has been noted. They kind of floated down instead of pelting down. In the 90's today, cooling off tomorrow to 82°, upper 60's for a few days and then back into the 80's. Off and on sunshine...typical April weather for around here.
Yesterday was a "wood" day here on the estate. Shredded more brush and scrap branches and ventured to the back side of the pond to cut some culled trees into firewood. I even got some mowing in on the north side of the house where I had removed some brush. Depending on how quickly things dry out, I have to attack some low-hanging branches on the Hackberry trees along the road that hang too low to safely mow under. While most can be gotten with the pruning shears, I will need the chainsaw for some. More brush to deal with.
Looks like I'll start today inside since it is so wet outside. Won't last long if the temperature does what it's supposed to do. Wind should pick up in a few more minutes and clear out the fog. Maybe I'll rearrange the freezer.

I didn't do any project type work yesterday out in the train shed. Intermittent power outages are not conducive to art! I ran trains since all they do is simply stop in their tracks (pun intended). Even though the few outages that I had were just momentary, they disrupt my train of thought, and anything longer means no lights.
After posting my latest cow pasture yesterday, I took some pictures of several others on the layout. Here's one outside the town of Graham.

Here's another across town with a grain elevator on the other side of the tracks.

Another partial near Gainesville.

A couple of views of one near another grain elevator in Vernon.

Since I model "flatlands USA", I have two others that I failed to take a picture of, as well as an incomplete packing plant. Plans exist for two more pastures in areas that I haven't yet developed.

David - I really like the scenery on your layout, it looks so British! Those close clearances really seem to mirror what prototypical pictures that I have seen. Are those cats on the roof in yesterday's picture?
Karl - They don't mind belly rumbling at our church as long as you are there and generously adding to the collection basket.
Joe - Yes you are blessed missing all of the weather action. I feel blessed as well as we have had a number of weather alerts here for tornadoes, high winds, hail and severe rain etc in the last 6 weeks. So far so good this season as the weather people have been mostly wrong, especially in their location - not here! Problem is that with this amount of false alarms, people will now get too relaxed and one of the alerts will be real.
Tom O - You're right about the skinny trunks on those Quaking Aspen trees. They do look good and I will look forward to seeing how you do them.
I also advance the "old" age as I near the previous benchmarks.

Everyone have a wonderful day.

OH, I know that - Just couldn't resist pulling your chain!
I'm anxious to see how you are going to paint those two different colors on "millions" of Aspen leaves ...LOL  😁
I knew the chain was pulled and done well.

I was going with Aspen leaves from Scenic Express but the small bag is out of stock. The larger bag for 9 trees isn’t worth the price to me. I am going to look around for something, trunks first though.

JAMES -- That is a magnificent photo! Do you have an idea of where it was.
The Rio Grande looks pretty large there?
I checked the photo information and no additional information was available. where it said see more in the caption I clicked that and it was just a bunch of hash tags.... unfortunately.

EDIT: I get these photos from FB on a link called "History Season" they have some great photos from time to time.

Some pics of the inside.

Good Morning All!
24F @ 79% and clear. Supposed to get to 48F mid-afternoon.

I used to think that old age is/was WAY older than I was. As I kept getting closer and closer to oldness, I keep bumping it up. Now days, 10 years older than I seems to be just right. Like some have posted - it is just a number; although the body sometimes disagrees with that.

Still below freezing at night for another week, so ima not putting batteries in stuff that uses them. Might get to start gathering some of the bigger tree pieces and other stuff into a piles. Will wait to touch them off in a few days or so.

I actually got the benchwork for the lower level done on screen. I was able to keep my walkway minimum to 36" except for one location; of 31". Had to hedge on my 30" layout width in a couple of places; down to 25" in 2 spots. Track in the middle blob is now about 1400" so I know my grade from 36" to 56" is below 1.5% and very doable. The middle blob is more or less the 'mountainous' region so track can pretty much hug the inside or outside of the loops. It is amazing of the issues you run into even when you have a 1200 square foot room! In fact, there is one spot in the blob that is about 5' x 9' and not usable for walking with trains. I guess that I could put a work desk or two in that middle area but that would require a duck-under. Not sure I want to go there and will just live with it for now. Trackwork is at the maximum or minimum ( depending on if inside or outside radii ) going around the blob. I will figure where industry, house and other sidings will go when I can see stuff full size and in 3D after the mains are in.

Later
