I’ve always wanted to see the deserts in the western part of the US. I realize that there isn’t much to see but I’ve never seen one.(and I’m 53) Yellowstone would be cool to see too someday.
My BIL lived in Phoenix for about 8 years. we went there for the first time when my wife and I started dating 20 yrs. ago. I fell in love with it instantly. We would go every February for a week. Then he moved to Denver, and we lost our super cheap warm vacation.

I would pack up and move there tonight, but my wife wouldnt do it, so im stuck in Illinois. ☹️

Phoenix is not the same as it was 20 or 30 or 40 years ago. Hugely overbuilt and packed with people... My brother lives in San Tan Valley (used to be Queen Creek before that city split into two -- it spanned two counties so they eventually created two cities out of it, one in each county). He is about 45 minutes East of Phoenix but still part of the metro area.

So I've been down there 3 or 4 times in the last 18 years since he moved back there from New Hampshire. It is a huge overbuilt sprawling place.

And I think that my area is being overbuilt. Two new trailers and a new half-built home (slab and plumbing only so far), within a half mile from me. No new people however, they're all just offspring moving out of mom & dad's place! OK actually one new person who is a spouse who moved in about three years ago. Otherwise, just new cows/calves.

Willie I think you should buy at least 5 of these homes put them on your property and rent them out.

Problem is that with this amount of false alarms, people will now get too relaxed and one of the alerts will be real.
Last time we received one of these alerts it was about 0300, and i was wakened out of a sound sleep. I grumbled, started the computer, looked at NOAA radar, and went back to bed. Next morning, no report of a problem. False alarm.
This time it was still daylight, we just finished dinner, I checked the radar, went outside, and decided it may be for real. I saw what looked like three cyclones coming out of the clouds, (someone else has a photo of the same), and decided it would be prudent to head for the basement. No elementary/middle school today due to power outages, We drove past some of the hardest hit areas enroute to Cardio rehab. Yeah, they were real
What amazed me the most, was the number of "brave" people that risked their well being, to take a video of the funnel clouds.
HVAC gut is coming tomorrow to check out the chimney...

Its been probably 13 or so years since we have been to Phoenix, so yea I'm sure it wouldn't even look like the same place i fondly remember. If I recall correctly, they lived in S. Phoenix, and it was still very open at the time.

I just remember walking out of Sky Harbor, and thinking this could easily be home!

So these are the (5) Alcos I programmed and speed matched for my buddy Andy.

Good evening my peeps!

New York City......no thanks, I'd rather not. The rest of the country, sure why not, maybe with the exceptions of Detroit and L.A.

James, love the Alcos, especially that D&H one!

It is my understanding of today's train wreck that beer in that river improved the taste of both! (Coors= Rocky Mountain weasel pee)

Since it not so boring, howabout another serving of something steamed!

This last engine is special, as it was a Father/Son project of my Dad and I from 1974. Over the years It received many upgrades, can motor, gear box, small details, DCC, sound and a more correct tender for it's road number. But it is still the engine that Dad and I built. He got to see it run before we lost him in 2010, it made him smile.

Morning Flo. Just a cuppa tea this morning. Yeah, the vanilla-caramel one.

Naw, been up since 2-ish. Tweaked my back again yesterday. Yep. Tried to carry in a case of water bottles. Had to set them down to open the storm door. All the bending pushed my herniated disk out again.

No, Not bad. But I don't want to look like Mel after a day on the grill. doing my backbends, and using the infrared heating pad.

It's not a muscle, so ice won't help. I just need to let the body heal that little tear in the jelly donut.

What? No. I don't need a day-old jelly donut. When does today's batch arrive? Willie's bringing them? Hmmm... Has Smudge brought in any scones from across the pond? Yeah. The blueberry one with some clotted cream sounds good. Thanks!
