Afternoon, everyone.
Phiilip, I don't think it's you. I suspect everyone is just buys. With my brother and SIL visiting, I haven't had much time on the computer. I hope you have a good ride tomorrow.
Barry, I think DCC controllers are subject to the maladies of all things electronic. Some fail almost immediately, some make it to middle age, and some live forever. Since my unit was used, I have no idea how much use it had before I got it. I think this was just one of those random failures that occurs with certain batches of products. The good thing is you can replace them relatively cheaply compared to even a couple of years ago, when you'd be looking at $500.
Corey, it sounds like your boss treated you right.
Bob, the people at Digitrax were great to deal with but, since I had no original receipt or warranty, I was going to be stuck paying. They were more than willing to fix it but Dave was almost certain he knew what was wrong and I'd end up with a refurb and a 90 day warranty. Seems to make better sense to buy a new one for about the same price and get a year's warranty.
When Rex gets back, he's the guy to ask about the computer control thing. His whole layout can be run from his computer and has that stuff down pat.
You've sure been through the mill with surgeries, especially back surgery, which is hard to recover from. It's hard to slow down but your body will eventually make slow down, one way or the other. I'm very lucky at my age. Like Sandy, I've never spent a night in the hospital. Except for my little "incident" a few weeks ago, I've only been in the ER for things like a few stitches or getting some x-rays when I was a deputy.
Sandy, having the Rockies in the playoffs is a real shock. I didn't think they had a chance but they've played well all season and didn't do the usual swoon at the end. If they sweep LA this weekend, they could have the division title. As usual, the Indians ended up at the bottom of the pile although they did, at least, win more games than Washington.
Chris, you're a real go-getter and I'm sure you'll scare up some good opportunities. Taking a few weeks off to regroup and get your head screwed on straight is a good idea.
Got my netbook computer yesterday and have it set up in the basement to use with Decoder Pro. It's a cute little thing and only weighs about 3 pounds. It only has 1 Gb of RAM but seems prety speedy and I haven't run into any slowdowns yet. It's made by a company out of Taiwan called Hannspree and seems to have really good build quality. A lot of the reviews on it were from soldiers in Iraq, where this netbook is apparenty available at retail stores. They said it stood up well to the sand and heat so I'm hoping it was a good buy. Heck, with wi-fi, bluetooth, a 160 Gb hard drive, and a five hour battery life, all for $300 delivered, I figure I can't go far wrong. The best thing is runs XP! No Vista crap to put up with. I hate Vista.
It's kind of cloudy and mild today. It looks like it should rain but I don't think we'll get any since the dew point is too low. Maybe a better chance for some rain Monday. The tropics reamain strangely quiet, except in the Pacific, where the poor folks in the Phillipines are about to get slammed by Typhoon Parma, a week after the last typhoon went through. Between the typhoons, tsunamis, and earthquakes, the Pacific islands have been taking a real beating lately.
