Jeff, partial blindness for ceftriaxone? Maybe it's a side effect I've never heard of but that usually only happens when it's used for treating Lyme disease. I'd question your doctor closely about this - it doesn't sound right to me.
The ceftriaxone is what I'm on at home. I was on 3 or 4 very powerful antibiotics in the hospital as my infection was a actually several infections, including cellulitis.

Sorry I'm not on more often but until my eyesight gets back to normal I can only read the screen a few times a day. The way it is right now is that a room with adequate lighting for reading looks as if it's dimly lit. The long course of strong antibiotics I've been on for the past week have a lot to do with it. Not only that, they've made my already short temper even shorter, so I really have to stay on top of my game when I'm talking with other members of my family, especially my father. That man can ask some of the stupidest, most insidious questions about what I'm going through and I constantly have to keep reminding myself that it's because he doesn't understand but really wants too. My problems are such that there's no way anybody can understand them unless they've been there themselves. Watching it happen to a husband, wife or child isn't the same as having it happen to you. Only then can you truly understand what it's like. Now the docs say that my vision will return to normal in a few weeks, maybe as long as 2 months. Until then I'm getting a bit of a taste of what my mother went through before she had her lasik eye surgery done to return her eyesight to normal. Before that she was legally blind and couldn't see 3 feet without her glasses which were a monstrously heavy pair of thick lenses supported by a thick wire frame. Now she doesn't have to wear glasses at all. If only the answers to all her problems were that easy. I'm only on 1 intravenous antibiotic now and I can administer it myself in the comfort of my home. I still have to use it for 20 more days but at least I'm off that iv rack of 3 and 4 going at one time. I hope I never have to go through that again. I'm hoping the docs are right and that my eyesight will return to normal. As it is right now I can't do any modeling as I have a extremely hard time focusing my eyes. So please excuse me if I only pop in a few times a day.

Jim, yeah, the Goldwing trike was quite nice. It's got an air ride suspention on the rear with an on board compressor on a switch, so you can adjust the firmness of the ride on the fly. Pretty sweet, huh? He just got back from Arizona 3 weeks ago. He's ridden that thing all over the place.

Bob, the leaves are just starting to turn. It was really a beautiful ride.

Karl,
wild-hogs.jpg

YEAH!!!!

Jeffrey Hey, we understand. We just get concerned when one of the members has a rough go of it. It's just one of those thngs that friends do!:D

Philip ROFLMAO! I loved that movie!

Bob, I can guarantee you that those illegals are working as contractors for some local thugs. Illegals are never this well organized and they don't hang around long enough to hit 130 homes. I hope the sheriff and/or state police continue to investigate because there are locals behind this operation somewhere up there and you get a long time in state prison for 130 counts of felony conspiracy. At least it sounds like the local folks know some of what you're going through and are doing their best to help. The grandfather clock is a really big loss since you can't replace 100 year old items like that at Walmart. :( Just do your best to keep your and the wife's blood pressure down and believe that this all happened for a reason, even if doesn't make sense right now. Karl's suggestion about getting some other people in there to do at least the initial sorting of the items will save both of you a lot of emotional pain.

Jeffrey, depending on the mix of antibiotics, you can get some temporary optic nerve damage, so maybe that's the cause of your vision problems right now. I'll pray that it clears up soon. I treated many patients in severe pain but never really understood how bad "severe" is until I went through my bout a few weeks ago, so I understand what you mean about the difference between knowing what a person is going through compared to going through it yourself.

Barry, indeed, not only do some drugs have rare side effects but mixtures of drugs, especially antibiotics, can have some really rare side effects. It's one of the reasons you won't see me in line for a swine flu shot. Unless you have a severely compromised immune system, that thing is just not worth the risk. It is probably the most poorly tested drug the FDA has ever allowed to be in general release.

Phillip, do they have the alternating high/low beam headlight law or option for motorcycles in Indiana? I always worry about bike riders (my brother is one of them), not because the bike is so dangerous but because the 5,000 pound SUV that doesn't notice you and turns left in your face is what will get you. When California made the alternating headlight law mandatory, our death rate for bike riders dropped almost 50% the first year. If Indiana doesn't already have this as mandatory but you are allowed to install it as an option, do so, if you haven't already. It really can save your life.

We finally got enough southerly flow to moisten things up and it's been raining steadily since about 6:00. We're up to 1.15 inches now but it's a moderate rain and not enough to cause any flooding. Still coming down now and should last for another few hours before we get break until Tuesday. October is usually our driest month and fairly warm. It was 62 degrees earlier this evening and windy. I actually had to put on a jacket for the first time since late May. Feels weird. :) This kind of weather reminds of Cleveland in the fall except you knew the next stage was the never ending snow. It'll get sunny and nice again later this week here.

Good morning.

It's 62 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 70's and there's a chance of rain.

My vision seems to be just a slight bit clearer this morning. Today I have to go the hospital to keep an appointment with nuclear medicine. They'll draw some blood so they can tag the white cells. Tomorrow they'll inject the blood back in then do a bone scan to see if the tagged cells congregate anyplace. They'll go to wherever an infection is present. I had a regular bone scan some time back but this one is much more detailed. Comparing the two would be like comparing a drawing of a house done by a 5 year old to a drawing done by a professional architect. The difference can be that dramatic. Some bad news on the parent's home front. Last night my mother had to be taken to the ER for examination and observation. She fell and cracked her head again. It doesn't look to be as serious this time but they're not taking any chances.

Jeff, hope your mom, and you, come out OK. Prayin' for ya bud!

Jim, there are actually very few motorcycle laws in Indiana compared to other states. ( http://home.ama-cycle.org/amaccess/laws/result.asp?state=in ) I've thought about a modulating headlight, and doing the modulating tail light thing too (flashes the brake lights two or three times before remaining solid when you apply the brakes), but hadn't6 gotten to it yet. I did upgrade my headlight bulb to the highest allowable wattage and that helped a bunch.

Jeffery- Glad there is some improvement to your vision and you recognize the
short temper" side effects of the medications. I'll keep you on my Forum prayer list.

Bob-Such senseless destruction of other people's property and hardwork is part of the "entitlement mentality" of too many people in our society today. I, for one, would like to administer some cruel and unusual punishment to the culperts. It is difficult for me to keep from getting mad about about it, just from the standpoint of having your layout destroyed.
(We need a little icon of mad with steam coming of of it!)

Phillip- sounds as if you had a great time.
The picture looks a little like the "SONS OF ANARCHY" advertisements. I suppose that is as bad as Chris calling you a leftist! Isn't that what he means when he said you were on the left??LOL

Y'all have a good day and I'll check back later.

Good morning folks

It was 53 F as I rolled onto the crowded highways this morning. High will be 69 F.

Where do I start about all the happenings over the last few days? It has been nothing short of crazy in the old homestead.

I guess an update on my son which is one of the reasons I was not posting over the weekend. On Thursday afternoon his fever spiked back up to almost 103. On Friday morning we took him to see the pediatrician again. This time they gave him an antibiotic and something for his cough. On Saturday he wanted to help with our Cub Scout Popcorn but he lasted only two hours before he was feeling lousy again. Sunday was much better day. He went shopping with us. He did get tired and wound up sitting for a while. This morning he was his usually feisty self. His temperature was normal but he still had the cough once in a while. He went to school. We will see how he makes out.

Saturday as mentioned before was our first day of Cub Scout popcorn sales. We had a booth at a local hardware store and some of the boys also went door-to-door. We had a pretty good weekend. The booth sales were down but the other type of sales were up. Since our pack has had phenomenal growth (we tripled in size to 30 scouts this month) we are hoping that it will be a good sale overall. If you have a craving for some Boy Scout popcorn and can’t get some local email and I’ll tell you how to do it online.

On top of all this fun we found a stray cat. Actually it is an abandoned cat from a neighbor down the street who moved to California. My kids used to play with their kids so the cat knows them. We are trying to acclimatize all the cats and dogs. The dogs don’t seem to care. The one dog wants to play but the cat is still unsure. The oldest cat (16 this month) could care less. The younger one is mobbing around the house like he lost his last friend. He hisses at the new cat right now. We will see how long it takes him to come around. My wife will be taking the new cat for spaying tomorrow.

Today is another goofy day. My daughter has an away volleyball game. She missed her first game last Thursday because she was home sick. Tonight my son has Boy scouts.

Bob, sorry to hear about the house. I hope everything works out.

Jeffery, good to hear that you are home. Hope the recover goes well.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mike Ain't that the truth!! We got so "concerned" about the rights of the perp and forgot the victim----what gets me is the "the perp has the right to possess your stuff" mentality ----:mad::mad:

Jim We can send you some more rain---I'd like to!!:D We are getting another 30%er showering on our heads now. Anytime the weatherbeguessers say 30%---we find that 30% I've wired up my mountain bike with an alternating light system---and it does work for this little one:D:D Now, if'n I can convince some people that they really should not be driving if'n they can't see the side of a bus!!

Phil Bunch of really relaxed--"Easy Riders" there!!:):) That must've been a fun ride!!

We got our showers be showering and a mini-t'underin'boomlet showed up with another monsoonal thing---not bad for a 30% chance of showers day innit?:rolleyes:

Gonna go do some shopping at my FLHS today---see what I can find out from the goodies box he has:D:D Also need a few things to make up some conveyors--never seem to have enough of those pieces around:confused: Probs find something else there as well---

Have a good day---whatever that may be for you;);):)

Hi gang! Finally, got caught up with all the posts after getting back to civilization. Bob, I am so sorry for your heart breaking experience. As Ken, has said, I always fear the same will happen to us when we leave for a camping trip. Fortunately, our neighbors always keep a close eye for anyone that doesn't belong and would not hesitate calling the law or even running them off. Man, I just cringe every time I put myself in your position. (Just glad Chris and the gang didn't show up at my house. :D)

Our camping trip was a wonderful success and again, meeting some good folks from all over. We only got a small amount of rain early Friday morning with the rest of the time being absolutely beautiful. The big rain started coming in just as I was hitching up for our return trip, mid Sunday morning. It rained the rest of the day and all night with over ~2.5" total. Just a drizzle today, but more coming in tomorrow. Love the low temps we are having.

Philip, that is a fine ride you have. I can see your pride and love all over that bike;). That movie, "Wild Hogs", was so funny, but also showed a part that is in many of us men.

Jeff, I sure hate to hear of your med problem and can understand your frustrations. Kind of hard to hold down a do-er like yourself ;):).

:)CU all later.:)

Bob, add my name to the list of folks that are so sorry for what you're going through. I wish there was something we (or I) could do that would help. If you think of anything, just ask, OK?

Good morning, everyone.

Jeffrey, glad to hear you sight is a little better and that they are doing the white cell studies. That might give you some more information on your immune system and where those bacteria are hiding out. Sorry about your mon and I hope she's OK.

Phillip, I'd take the time to add the modulator to the headlight and do the taillight flasher. Anything that will make your bike stand out from the background clutter helps the inattentive driver notice you. I know you've spent lots of time to make your bike look good and a little more time for these safety things is good insurance. I must say, from your picture, I'd never pick you out as a preacher. :)

Mikey, this thing of trashing the whole house as part of a burglary is relatively new thing and seems to part of a sociopathic trend among this class of thugs. It's like they feel that anything you have that's nicer than what they have, but they can't sell it off, they wreck. This thing was almost always done by young white males who think that you already have all their stuff and they are just taking it back. In California, we started dogpiling the charges on, including felony vandalism and conspiracy, so these scumbags would be looking at 30 years in the joint. That helped some but, the number of new thugs coming along behind them always outstripped our ability to get them all in prison. Now, with the California budget mess, they are starting to close all the prisons that got built over the last 20 years, putting these guys right back on the street. That's one reason I'm glad I'm not on the job any longer. I felt like the little Dutch boy, holding my finger in the dike, while sea poured in around me.

Tom, I hope your son's fever has finally resolved. Did his doctor ever give you a reason why it kept coming back? I've been through the stray cat thing too many times now. We started with one and we now have four. We've reached our livestock limit here.

Barry, it looks like some of your rain will get to us this week so we're happy for it, as long as it's kept under control. It's really odd because October is usually sunny and warm and the only rain we get is from tropical storms. It's only 66 right now and cloudy, although the rain is over. It actually feels chilly.

Rex, you picked the perfect window for camping. Nice while you were out there and now rainy when you're back at the house. It always works the opposite for me. :) I've got an alarm system but I worry about the house and contents when we're gone too. It doesn't take long for a gang to do a lot of damage. It's got to be heartbreaking to see something like your layout, that you've put so much time and thought into, wrecked just for fun. Insurance is one thing but it can't replace what took hundreds (or maybe thousands, in your case) of hours of planning and work. There are times when lining up people and shooting them seems like an attractive idea.

We've gotten just a little over 1.75 inches of rain, not as much as further north at Rex's, but a nice little storm. Strange happenings in the tropics. A little "tropical" storm that is named Grace formed last night at 45 degrees north, just north of the Azores. Grace formed way outside the tropics over water that is way too cold to support any kind of tropical storm activity. Grace will cease to exist by tomorrow morning as the remnants get absorbed into a front headed for Ireland. Not saying politics had anything to do with this, but Grace normally would have been designated as an extratropical low and never would have been a named tropical system....unless your forecast for tropical storms for the year was way off. That area of disorganized convection about 1000 miles east of the southern Caribbean is looking a little healthier this morning and may turn into something later this week. I think the storms are starting to get exercise so the swarm can attack us when we take our cruise. :D

Phillip, I'd take the time to add the modulator to the headlight and do the taillight flasher. Anything that will make your bike stand out from the background clutter helps the inattentive driver notice you. I know you've spent lots of time to make your bike look good and a little more time for these safety things is good insurance.

I have several projects for the bike in mind this winter. I was going to add lights to the back of the tour pack. All of the Drifters lighting in the rear is so low to the ground, ya know? I'll have to do the modulators at the same time. Gotta watch out for the teenie boppers on their phones and texting while driving, right?

I must say, from your picture, I'd never pick you out as a preacher. :)

GOOD! I'm doing something right then! It's a good thing when I catch folks off guard because it opens up conversation! (Or did you mean that I'm so scarry looking that people just run in terror? ;) )

Hi all,

It's been a rather boring day for me at the office. I had planned to start work on a new and exciting project today, but as I pulled out the CD's to install the 'infrastructure' software, I noticed that the vendor had shipped me the wrong f***** version - totally incompatible with what we're currently using!:mad: And as Murphy would have it, when I tried to call my account rep at the software company, all I got was her voicemail and she still hasn't returned my call. So my work is essentially dead-in-the-water until I can obtain and install the correct software. I've been surfing the various mrr forums [including this one] to keep the boredom from driving me squirrelly.

Rex, glad the weather cooperated with you for your vacation, it's great when things work out as perfectly as that.

Jeff I'm glad your vision is starting to improve, but I'm sorry to hear about your Mom's accident.

Phillip - it's incredible how a few items of clothing can totally alter one's image! I always pictured you looking totally different (probably from the pics you posted from your younger days?). Every day I drive past a bar that's popular with bikers who are usually in their full regalia on weekends, and I wonder how many of them will be back in pinstripe suits at their jobs the following Monday.

Jim - I agree with your assessment of what happened to Bob, I think that's a symptom of a much larger and more insidious problem in modern culture - a total cluelessness and/or disregard among many [but thankfully NOT ALL] youth about the concept of 'right' and 'wrong'.

My mother is OK and she and my father are packing for their to Pennsylvania tomorrow. They'll be staying with my younger sister outside of Newport, near the Little Buffalo state park. Their main reason for going is that they'll be attending a Reno/Reneau family reunion. I went to the hospital to get a bunch of my white blood cells tagged and put back into my bloodstream. Having the central line straight into the heart made that easy. No needle poking for a change. Tomorrow afternoon I go back to have a bone scan done so we can see where those tagged white cells go to. Any big congregation point could be an infection.

Ken, I don't have too many pics of myself. Don't think I have any that aren't in jeans, but maybe I'm forgetting one?
