Afternoon, everyone.

Phiilip, I don't think it's you. I suspect everyone is just buys. With my brother and SIL visiting, I haven't had much time on the computer. I hope you have a good ride tomorrow.

Barry, I think DCC controllers are subject to the maladies of all things electronic. Some fail almost immediately, some make it to middle age, and some live forever. Since my unit was used, I have no idea how much use it had before I got it. I think this was just one of those random failures that occurs with certain batches of products. The good thing is you can replace them relatively cheaply compared to even a couple of years ago, when you'd be looking at $500.

Corey, it sounds like your boss treated you right.

Bob, the people at Digitrax were great to deal with but, since I had no original receipt or warranty, I was going to be stuck paying. They were more than willing to fix it but Dave was almost certain he knew what was wrong and I'd end up with a refurb and a 90 day warranty. Seems to make better sense to buy a new one for about the same price and get a year's warranty.

When Rex gets back, he's the guy to ask about the computer control thing. His whole layout can be run from his computer and has that stuff down pat.

You've sure been through the mill with surgeries, especially back surgery, which is hard to recover from. It's hard to slow down but your body will eventually make slow down, one way or the other. I'm very lucky at my age. Like Sandy, I've never spent a night in the hospital. Except for my little "incident" a few weeks ago, I've only been in the ER for things like a few stitches or getting some x-rays when I was a deputy.

Sandy, having the Rockies in the playoffs is a real shock. I didn't think they had a chance but they've played well all season and didn't do the usual swoon at the end. If they sweep LA this weekend, they could have the division title. As usual, the Indians ended up at the bottom of the pile although they did, at least, win more games than Washington. :)

Chris, you're a real go-getter and I'm sure you'll scare up some good opportunities. Taking a few weeks off to regroup and get your head screwed on straight is a good idea.

Got my netbook computer yesterday and have it set up in the basement to use with Decoder Pro. It's a cute little thing and only weighs about 3 pounds. It only has 1 Gb of RAM but seems prety speedy and I haven't run into any slowdowns yet. It's made by a company out of Taiwan called Hannspree and seems to have really good build quality. A lot of the reviews on it were from soldiers in Iraq, where this netbook is apparenty available at retail stores. They said it stood up well to the sand and heat so I'm hoping it was a good buy. Heck, with wi-fi, bluetooth, a 160 Gb hard drive, and a five hour battery life, all for $300 delivered, I figure I can't go far wrong. The best thing is runs XP! No Vista crap to put up with. I hate Vista.

It's kind of cloudy and mild today. It looks like it should rain but I don't think we'll get any since the dew point is too low. Maybe a better chance for some rain Monday. The tropics reamain strangely quiet, except in the Pacific, where the poor folks in the Phillipines are about to get slammed by Typhoon Parma, a week after the last typhoon went through. Between the typhoons, tsunamis, and earthquakes, the Pacific islands have been taking a real beating lately.

We could burn some pieces from that table with the toy trains! He still plays with trains, ha! Hey Chris, Duck!:D

WEll, got some bad news a couple of hours ago. Seems my house in MI got broken into. The caught a group of Illegals in a 32-foot box truck last night. Pulled it over for a tail light violation and the guys were also acting a bit nervous. They open the back and found it full of stolen property. Imagine that. I guess one of the guys took officers around to a bunch of houses that were summer homes for the most part that these guys had broken into.

The Sherriff's department thinks that they were involved in over 130 home burglaries in the past 3 months. I'm making a trip up north tomorrow to check the house and identify anything tht the authorities may have in possession.

I called the friend that was watching the place for me and he said he was at the house Tuesday afternoon and all was well. He called back later and said I should get up there post-haste. Seems that they destroyed at least part of the layout in the basement. I hope that it isn't too bad. He said the whole house was ransacked, yet the desk top computer was still there at my work station. How anyone could miss a 24" flat screen monitor is beyond me.

They tried to open the gun safe, John said there were deep scratches on it. Breaking into that safe is a lost cause and a waste of time. It is drill proof and has an acid resistant coating and all of the innards are acid resistant. Absolutely, totally safe. And I have both keys to the safe with me. Had they been able to get into the safe all Hell would have broken loose. There are a few Class 3 weapons in there, and a bunch of ammunition, although they would have had to break into a second safe inside the first to get to those. Yes, there is a safe inside my safe.

Angela wants me to wait until morning, but I may leave here directly. Less traffic and there may be football games in Lansing and Ann Arbor tomorrow. I would hate to get stuck in that mess.

Bob

Bob, that's distressing news. :( I sure hope the layout wasn't too badly damaged and you get most of your stuff back. Good thing you have such a secure gun safe. That's the only gun control law I'd support. Everyone with more than one gun should have them in a safe unless it's a personal defense weapon that's always on you or near you. I don't have a collection of anywhere near the size you have but I still keep it all locked in a safe, except my Kel-Tec 9mm, and that's always with me. The safe isn't as good as yours but it's enough to discourage most thieves. If you've already left, I hope you take it easy and stay safe. Kind of hard when something like this happens, I know. Let us know how things look when you get a chance.

Chris, I know it's a bittersweet kind of day but one door has closed and others will open. Keep those lawnmowers tuned up and ready to go. Strange you should mention flyers. I got one today that offered to cut your lawn free for the first time if you bought three months worth of service. You could cancel and get your money back if you didn't like the first job. Might be something to think about.

I think Alabama plays at home tomorrow so Rex's is the last place we want to be. Tuscaloosa is gridlock city on game day. We'd probably still be trying to make our escape when Rex showed up and he's real bad tempered about people using his layout for fuel. His dogs are even more mean than Rex.

Boy, mighty quiet at Flo's today. A lot of folks must have something I've heard about called "a life". :) Spent some time out pruning and chopping today before winter sets in and we get our one inch snowstorm. Finished setting up the netbook and can program decoders again. I'm hoping me and my brother can get up on the roof of the RV and finish the roof seal. Nice day today but it looks like it's going to be rainy next week and the leaks are getting worse.

Well, I'm just over halfway to the house in MI. Stopped for a bite to eat and the dogs had to pee. I went ahead and gassed up tough I was still sitting just below 3/4 tank. Gas is actually cheaper at this truck stop than at home. Gotta make a note of that for the return trip.

As soon as we get past Claire, MI I can resume my 85 mph cruise control setting. Won't be much traffic at all north of there. And in all of the years coming up here, I have never seen a police car.

I talked to John, the neighbor that has been watching our place. He said it is trashed. All of my taxidermy mounts are on the floor, but look undamaged. That include two 6x6 elk, a moose and countless deer. The glass case for my coyote got smashed. And many of our collectible statues are now nothing but pieces. He also said that many of the paintings' frames were busted up pretty bad but the canvas' looked to be in good shape.

All of the dishes in the kitchen cabinets are now broken on the kitchen floor, and the pots and pans are all over the place. The stereo system and TV are missing, as well as a second computer in Angela's office. It was junk anyway and we had been talking of replacing it. The basement patio door, it's a walk out basement, was smashed. Looks like that is how they gained entry.

I guess I'll have to wait to get there to really get mad, I'm near he boiling point now. I just hope that these guys make bail and I'm around when they walk out of the jail. I've got a real nice "whuppin' stick" that hasn't been used in some time. It's a mean thing, about 3 feet long and made of hickory. Ought to whup some knots on a few heads. It has broken a few bones in its time too.

John made the comment that a similar deal went down a little over a year ago. The perps got deported and didn't even have to go to court or get any jail time.

Well, the boss is back from her potty call. Time to hit the road again.

Bob

Bob that is a real shame those illegals(if they are u never know for sure anymore) trashed your place. At least it was just stuff and no one got injured.

Went to our youngest daughters place on West side of INDY Fri and helped Jamey insulate the attic of his garage. He bought 11 bundles of insulation that each cover 77.5 sq.ft. We got about 1/3 of it done and four sheets of OSB down before I wore out. Man getting old is no fun but sure beats the alternative. Still have a few splinters in my right hand that woke me up a littel while ago so better remove em and try to go back to sleep.

And everyone with yards 3 foot deep and weeds that look like trees would call for that one free mow.....No thanks:rolleyes: Jim, let your lawn go for 10 weeks then call them for the free mow!:D:):D:)

Afternoon, those of you still around. :)

Bob, I hope you made it safe. I'd be more than a little cranked off too by the sound of the senseless damage they did. I hope it's not as bad as it sounds. Sadly, if they realy are illegals, they probably will do little or no jail time but just get deported. Most counties have so many budget problems they can't afford to hold citizen inmates let alone illegals. We'd just call the Border Patrol and have them pick them up after the trial. In theory, Mexico has agreed to put their citizens in Mexican jails if they are convicted of a crime in the US that's also a crime in Mexico, like burglary. Yeah, like that's going to work.

Chris, "No" is still a complete sentence. :) If it's clear that they just want a free lawn mow, you just turn them down. The guy who handed out the flyers has already picked my next door neighbor as a customer. Might work, who knows? I think all parties are dead this weekend, for some reason.

Larry, that seems like an awful lot of work. She's lucky to have a dad around to help with the heavy lifting. Between insulation and OSB, I'd be itching all night. :D

A beautiful day in the Heart of Dixie. No rain from the front that passed through although there's hope of rain starting Sunday night. Nothing happening in the tropics and Typhoon Parma weakened rapidly before hitting the Phillipines so Manila was spared another round of flooding and mudslides.

Thanks for the well wishes everybody.

Finally got out of the hospital today after being held incommunicado for 6 days. I had a bad infection in my right foot. This was one they'd never seen before and it required a really tough antibiotic to knock it out. They said I'd need to continue the treatment at home for a few weeks and fixed me up with a IV port right into my heart just for this purpose. It's nice to be back home where I can select a channel I want to watch instead of having to look at one that has this country's great leader splashed all over it most of the time.

Hi folks

Jeffrey, welcome home! I'm sure your are glad to be back as well.

Bob, I hope those rotten bastards didn't ruin anything that is irreplaceable. Sorry to hear of your trouble.

Jim, don't forget to test out the hair dryer. How else will you melt the snow on the driveway?:D

I just thought I would stop in to the coffee shop so people driving by didn't think it was closed.:) I'm waiting for paint to dry, you can imagine how exciting that is! Everybody cross your fingers and hope that Detroit loses tonight. Then the Twins will have a chance to make the playoffs. On the other hand, I'm going to the last home game at the Metrodome tomorrow. I'd hate to lose my bit of history bragging rights.

Have a good night everyone!

Good Evening--

Jeff Great to have you back---seemed like eons here---

Bob Good Grief!! What a mess that sounds like---me, I'd like to do a Vincent Price--"Pit and Pendulem" thing with them tied to the rack---:mad::mad:

Jim Try a college town like ours--Richmond Street--the section called Richmond Row, in fact, has been closed to traffic as of this afternoon because there are going to be multi-people at the various bars in a 4 block range----Homecoming is the reason--:rolleyes::eek:

Went by there a little earlier seen that even some of the side streets were all buggered up with people and traffic and whatnot:eek:

I got told that the seminar will be postponed for this weekend---overbooked rooms don't you know:rolleyes:---all due to Homecoming

All the better for me to get some MRR time in--heeheehee:D:D:D

Been there, done that more times than I care to remember! Jeff, have they checked your immune system. With all these infections that you've had they really need to. Even at a low normal level, a good dose of IGG doesn't hurt, much.

It's nice to be back home where I can select a channel I want to watch instead of having to look at one that has this country's great leader splashed all over it most of the time.

It is nice to be able to watch what ya want. Trouble is, lately there ain't nothing on the 300 channels worth watching!;)

Edit:
Your mention of the central line got me thinking about all that I have had. I counted them up and confirmed the count with my wife, and since 1994, I've had 22! Last one I had clotted off my inominate vein and put me into intensive care for 14 days, with 20 days total in the hospital that time. Wow! Don't ever wanna do that again!

Hiya gang
Jeepers, I miss a few days and holycow! All crap breaks loose.
Lemme see if I can touch em all.
Jeffrey, glad to hear you are out of the hospital. After 6 days of hospital food, I'm sending you a case of burritos!:D
Philip, Sorry to hear about your friend. She sounds like one heck of a good person, she will be missed.
Chris Drink a cold one for me! And uh.....................DUCK!
boB Sorry to hear about the house. You might want to pull aside one of the arresting officers and remind him that illegals are kinds like pool balls. The harder you smack em, the better english you get outta them!
Larry Yeah getting old sucks, but splinters too? Thats adding insult to injury.
Today was a good modeling day, or at least model related. About 6 weeks ago I got a set of Western Maryland F7A's by Intermountain. One unit had a very poor fitting body shell, in fact only the front coupler was holding it on. It finally came home today and rejoined its running mate. Jeepers, 2 of them with sound is LOUD!:D
Also at the club meeting today, one of the senior members came to me with a question. He's 84 now and still active, and for the last 17 years I have known him he has been constantly upgrading a brass C&O Kanawha. First a can motor, then a torque arm & NWSL gearbox, then DCC and finally sound. For the last 17 years I have always commented on how beautiful the engine was and how well it ran. Today he informed me that he was downsizing and asked it I would be willing to purchase the engine from him. I asked how much. He said "give me $150.00 and its yours"! Of course, I jumped on it! He told me that he would rather sell it to me cheap and know it would be taken care of, than to ebay it. He also told me that his wife had purchased it for him as a Christmas present in the early 60's for $375.00, so I was getting a good deal. I'm still kinda dumbstruck about the whole thing. I'll pick it up from him next week, and may then post a pic in WPF.
Finally, the October RMC came today! Wahoo! The Dremel kitbashing award for this month is mine!!:D:D:D I'm tickled (even if they did screw up one of the captions).
Catch y'all later!

Along about Thursday I was ready to get out of that place. They had to but install the central line and I would be out. However nobody was able to get to it that day. Friday all the surgeons took a powder and again there was nobody available to do it. Today (Saturday) I was told there wouldn't be anyone available to do it until Monday. At this point I was really getting ticked off and my Indian half was making itself well known. Around noon today they came up with a surgeon and had the whole procedure over and done with at the bedside in less than 20 minutes. Inside of three hours later I was driving home, very happy to be putting many miles between me and the realm of doctors and nurses.
