Good afternoon, from Malta ( Europe ) we got a very hot day today, its about 81° but feels like 90°. I hope this heat calms down, we got fed up of it.

G'morning shop dwellers,

It's an overcast morning here in the MidLantic region. By the time you read this I'll be gone. The whole family is making a 3-day visit to Sarah's college for Homecoming Weekend. That means no 'putors [and by extension, no forum visits] for me during this period. However, Wheeling-Pitt has an active facility ~5 miles down the road (PA Hwy 7) so I might sneak off with my camera to see that.

Josh - Good luck with getting a house, hope you can keep your gov't job to make this dream layout of yours a reality.

Rex - I woulda dropped in last night except we all sleep at night, not during the day ;)

Max we're having a hot spell here too.

Gotta go, C U all in a few days!

Good morning folks

Another foggy drive to work. It was 69 F and muggy when I left the house. We are supposed to have a high of 85 F. We have more of the same for the next five days. Still no chance of rain in the forecast until Wednesday.

I poured water on the museum diorama. No other modeling.

We have the usual shopping to fit in. On Saturday my daughter has her birthday party. This year they are doing a ceramic painting party. On Sunday my son has a home game against Claymont Falcons Midget JV. We hope that the Drexel Hill Raiders Midget JV Silver can get their first win.

I need to pour more water on the museum diorama and add some more details. On the layout I need to fix the turf around the small barn and start adding bushes and other details. I would also like to finish weathering the 11 hoppers on the workbench.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning fellow modelers!!! Man I can't believe it's Friday, just seemed like Tuesday. Well I'm planning on working on the layout some but mainly I plan to finish up my smoker/bbqer. I finished my Dad's last weekend and hopefully I can get most of mine done this weekend. I think I may have found a second job to do for the fun of it, people have seen these smokers and have asked how much I would charged to build them one. LOL I didn't even think they were good looking enough to sell. Anyways hope everyone has a great weekend.

Good Morning guys ! Looks like there isn't too much room at the counter. Good to see the shop filled up this early . Looks like everyone on the East coast has a very warm day ahead. Suppose to reach 84 here. Got more painting to do so better get started . You all have a real nice day !!!!!

Goooooooooooooooooood Moooooooornnniiiinnnnnggg Coffee Shop!

It is 74°F right now and supposed to hit 83°F later today here in the Finger Lakes. The weather people are calling for "abundant sunshine, very warm". Today may be the first time I have ever had the air conditioner on in October. I have to finish splitting the wood for this winter (If we have one) today so I best get moving! Flo, a couple of those donuts that Bill brought and coffee to go.

BTW, Josh, that evening waitress is kinda cute ain't she? I won't tell the "better half" on you........;) ;)

Well,,,,,, Here I sit sweating profusely! The temp outside is 82°F and it isn't even noon yet. This is October in the Finger lakes??????? The humidity is way up there also. I got 4 wheelbarrows of wood split and stacked and that is going to do for today (at least until late afternoon or evening when it cools off out there!). Maybe I should go and play with the trains???? Hmm. I think that is a great idea. (Thinking out loud....) Sure wish I knew what GrandeMan is going to do for the Photo Contest this month (only 3.5 weeks left this month Eric...). I could go get to work setting up a photo op....

Rex were is carey, did you wear him out driving trains

LOL! It's easy to wear out old men:D . I offered him a swig of moonshine to rid himself of impurities, but he decided to stick with city medicines. Naw, poor Carey had tire trouble on the way back to Birmingham. Seems the belt tore loose in the tire, spare was flat, and since his son was closer to him than me, called his son to come get him. I think he spent yesterday and today dealing with all that fuss.;) Other than that, I believe we have him back now.

Nick: I am still waiting on my birthday smoker.

KenL:Yeah, my sleep habits have been screwed up every since I worked mids years ago. I have tried to overcome it, but for some reason my canine teeth start hurting and they even grow during the dark hours:eek: .

HEY G MAN! Ray's calling you!

Josh - Good luck with getting a house, hope you can keep your gov't job to make this dream layout of yours a reality.
Even if I don't keep it, I'll get there, someday. I've discussed with my part time 2nd job, about taking a management position at another store, for more money.

Afternoon all!

Had to take my son to the MDA doctors this morning, so that took like forever! More PT and more leg braces, so what else is new. At least it is all helping slow the desease down I guess. Sometimes it's just hard knowing that out of a family of 4, I'm the only one that won't suffer this debilitating condition. I'd trade places with them if I could in a heartbeat.

Finally made it in to work though. Came in, got a few things done, and now I'm chillin' a little.

Ray, our weather sounds a lot like yours!
Hot out there today for this time of year. We are in store for a record warm weekend across central Indiana as highs will approach 90 degrees Saturday and Sunday. The record high for today is 87(1922), Saturday's record is 88(1946) and the record for Sunday is 87(1916). If we hit 90 degrees, this will also mark a record for the latest 90 degree day ever this late in the year. There will be a chance of a few spotty showers later today.

So what up with all of you peeps?

KenL, Rex;

I spent almost 11 years as the 11pm-7am OR Supervisior when I worked at the University Medical Hospital in Mobile AL.

Even now, more than 15years later, I sometimes find myself getting back into that rythmn and have no trouble staying up late.

Yall know about the tire from Rex, here's the rest of the story/nightmare!:) We got back to vechicle rather late the next afternoon. (Could it be because both my son and I overslept. He woke up at 3:30pm, and I woke up at 4pm? Nah, no way! )Uh, Yeah!

Got out the spare and aired it up, put the jack in place, and then tried to remove the lugs. They wouldn't bulge. Borrowed one of those big, black 4-way lug wrenches, no go even with that! (They had been overtorqued.) We wound up calling a 24-hour tire repair place and the man came out and with his air wrench removed the lugs, and even put the spare in place. He only charged $60.00 for that 5 minutes of work. Thats the job I need! Then we drove home.

Got to the tire place this AM and they sincerely apologised for the trouble and
while they were determining what the pro-rate on the tire was, its mate, on the other side, was taken off to re balance it. The technician spotted where it was trying to separate as well. Huge blister on sidewall on the inside of the tire.

So I got the "honor" of replacing 2 tires at "only" $151.06! Also found out that BFG no longer makes the tires that blistered, because of the design of this particular tire was found to be badly flawed and about 30% of these tires had been suffering castestrophe blowouts and BFG recommended to all their dealers to remove those tires and replace them. They only charged me 45% of MSRP on the new tires as BFG picked up the rest!!:D Frankly, I think they (BFG), shloud have replaced them for free, but my tire dealer wouldn't go for it.

Oh yeah, gonna be a good weekend for me. Tomorrow off, going to pick up $200 worth of trains from a guy, and go to the Model Railroad Musuem for another trade show/flea market, of trains... I hope I can pick up some stuff I want, but I'm going to look for re-sale this time too. To top it off, I get Monday off.

I've been working on getting my HO GP50 ready for my fictional road, the Midland Gulf Railway (MGRy).

First was the preparation. I removed all window glass, lenses and number boards.

The next step was to lay the cab and body out for painting.

After two light coats, I allowed it to dry thoroughly.

While the paint was drying, I was printing the decals out on airmail paper.
P1010003-6.jpg

The decals are cut out and set aside.
P1010006-4.jpg

The roadname decals are applied first.

Followed by the cab numbers and number boards.

The body and cab are finally reunited with the chassis.

That's it for now.

Ahhhhh, Jeff, didn't I just see all these in the Weekend Photo Fun??????? Oh, I know, "It's Déja Vu all over again". ;)

Good morning all. Flo fix me up a big ole plate of biscuits with a couple of scrambled eggs and hash browns all of this covered in dried beef gravy and a very large cold glass of cow juice. Been out in the shop making an architectural piece on the lathe for a porch column and worked up quite an appetite. I thinks I have got a good one finally on my third try. The lathe tools kept catching on the first one and knocking out big chunks of wood. The 2nd had a bad place that I did not find until after I had started it.
The weather today is supposed around 90 degrees with high humidity. The dew point is 66 already. Any time the dew point is above 65 it is very sticky and uncomfortable. Temps later in the week are going to be in the 60's for a high. Weatherman said that 60 may be hard to get to on Thurs. Well have a good day people I am sure going to.
