This week I accomplished building some freight cars, standardizing the couplers and wheels, adding decals, and adding some weathering. This will give you a fairly good idea of the kind of equipment running on the modern Rock.

Here is a 40' boxcar, rebuilt in 1969, this will get more rust on the roof:

50' boxcar, built new in 1966, will also get more rust on the roof:

Covered hoppers built in the 1960s, recently modernized:

Airslide hoppers built new in the late 1970s, needs weathering (these were actually former GATX):

Been taking some "found photos" the last few days. I normally have my HO scale modules boxed together in a closet, but set them up in my second hobby room to clean them up for our local train show on March 1st. I also wanted to take some photos on them. Our house is split entrance, with both up and downstairs finished, no basement. My rooms are on the lower level, where there are full-sized widows.

The late afternoon sun shining in the window on the modules offered some great sun lit scenes that I've been taking advantage of, or "found photos". Can't beat the real sun!

Here's one of the many I've taken:

Was shooting away this afternoon and the batteries in my digital camera gave up! Hadn't checked them (there are 2) for a while and had to stop shooting after 60-70 shots. Well I actually switched to another less capable camera and did shoot a few more while I still had the sun.

Great pictures everyone, a nice start to the weekend I must say.

Nice work so far!

Bob.........WOW! I dream of someday approaching your abilities both as a modeler and a photographer. That is wonderful!

I have used what little time I have had this week for modeling to make a barn for what will be a Turkey Farm I hope. This is a three in one laser cut kit from American Model Builders. Here it is being test fitted after the basic structure was glued together.

After working on it a few minutes every day it is now basically assembled. Still have a little bit todo and some weathering to make it look, ah, well, like a barn........;) ;) :D

One last photo of it from the other side of the layout.

This is the first kit I have done from AMB and find that is the best laser cut wood kit I have done so far. Very well made with excellent and easy to follow directions.

That Barn does look good.
I was thinking about getting some kits from AMB. Do thier kits come pre-painted?

Nope! I spray painted the trim flat white before assembly. The trim comes with an adhesive backing. Just pull off the protective backing and stick in place. The barn walls were brushed with a "barn red" I mixed up a couple years ago and had sitting around.

BTW, I am using Plainville Turkey Farm as the "inspiration" for this scene. In 1925, the farm was still basically a dairy farm. The turkeys (which was a small operation back then) will be housed in a shed that comes with the kit (hopefully).

Nice photos everyone . Va love that Goodyear panel truck. I worked for Goodyear for 19 years . Back then our plant was called Pathfinder . In the late 50's Goodyear bought it and we became Goodyear . Ray have you ever eaten at the Plainville Restaurant in Cicero. If you like turkey that is the place to go and eat it . They have a buffet loaded with turkey every way you can prepare it . BTW the barn looks great .
