Long long time

Hi friends!

Afther a loooong time, Im here again with my official seccond weather proyect. This weekend I re-take work on this rusty and ol' UP caboose.
I use some airbrushing to get this cold weather rust, and now Im making some dry brush work on roof wood.
For tomorrow dust chalk!!! (my favorite part)

I still have to finish windows and may Ill do Interiors. Im thinking in a "Dead Line" snowy diorama.

Hope you like it!:D

Got the new "brewery" into position and started the small delivery yard between that and the loco shed.

This week I was trying to partially recreate a prize winning photo I took 19 years ago, using slide film and a pinhole aperture equipped 28mm lens. This combination gives great depth of sharpness:

Trying a somewhat similar scene with my current digital camera and 11-18mm zoom at 18mm (equivalent to the 28mm lens on film camera):

I was quite pleased with the depth of focus I could get with the digital camera. I didn't try to recreate the older photo completely, although I probably could if I had wanted to spend some more effort. It was mostly an exercise to see what I could do with the digital camera. So far so good!

Mike Nice work weathering the caboose
John Went in myself today while passing and bought some tankers !!
Bob looks great to me

Allright people :) here are my first pictures posted on weekend photos since I joined this forum :) now I'm starting to have parts of the layout that I can show, even though its still far from ready :)

Here my Curved stone Viaduct, which is still under construction, but before continuing its construction I tried it in place, and it was a perfect fit, and since it was there I took the moment to snap some photos :)

I will post these pics on my thread as well to keep the progress photos up to date on the same thread.

Bob: Im wondering how you made it??? yesterday I try to make some close photos with my XT camera and a 18-55 lens, but it can get this close...

Jeffrey, nice picture of those two F's. Was the dark gray color common on the KCS? I didn't spend too much time in KCS territory but I remember the angines is being that almost white, ight gray in color.

Steve, what is that picture suppposed to be. I assume some kind of yard but that big propane torch in the background makes me nervous. :)

John, the brewery looks good. Is that another of those paper kits or styrene? Nice way t fit an industry into that odd corner of the layout. Nice engine too.

Bob, I remember that cover! I guess that means we're both getting older. The digital picture is really much better, with more fine detail in the foreground and background. Both the plow details and the engine details are much clearer and the backdrop detail is very sharp. Who would have thought all this possible 19 years ago?

Maxi, I crown you the king of styrofoam and cardboard construction. :D

Mike, nice job on that caboose. It will look really good out in back of the car shops in the dead line.

Richard, that SW-7 look great out on the road doing it's job. Nice plate girder bridge too.

I guess I should get off my butt and take a few shots too before the holiday weekend ends. I know my new 2-8-0 is going to be very vain about having its picture taken. :)

The gray and yellow scheme began appearing in the 80's. By then many of the F units were gone. The few remaining were rebuilt into slugs and never received the gray paint. They were eventually all scrapped with the exception of a few which were rebuilt for the business train. I painted a couple of mine gray to see how the F's would have looked. They looked so good that I left them gray.

Here's another photo I like.

I was using a Tamron 11-18mm lens at the 18mm end. It probably focuses closer than the 18-55mm Canon lens. And I can get f/29 at this setting, at closest focusing distance.

Keep in mind the MR cover is a much reduced size scan of a printed version of my original slide, I think the original was be much clearer.

I rember that cover too ... I wish MR was still 2.95 thou!!

Jeffery: Cool shot as usual!

Steve: Nice video looks like a very smooth runner and superb Sound!

Richard: Good railfanning!

Mike: WOW!!

John: Nice addition - looks like its coming along nicely

Maxi: Your viaduct looks like it'll work out well -

Very nice images, everyone. Bob, the second image is greatly improved to my eye, but in fairness the image on the mag cover is probably not doing justice to the original?

Jeffrey, nice steamer shot.

Here is a recent addition to my stable.

jim thats going to be the engine servicing facility eventually, got to build the diesel depot yet, it's a small two road structure capable of holding only two locos at once with the emphasis on, basic fueling, oiling, watering and sanding of locos plus any minor repair jobs. Access to it for railway personel will be via a short walkway with no road access, we tend to build things very close together over here, access roads are often very narrow and tight

These tankers are made by bachmann, they are great but some models are let down by poor finishing, great runners though. If you look at the short wheelbase tankers the tank is formed in three sections, they do not match up very well at all in my opinion, how could they get all the lettering and other details spot on but miss two bloody great seperation lines in the main structure, in reality this is a welded seam, if you scale bachmanns version up it's a two inch weld

This is what we got this week

a 20 ton brake van, like a caboose but smaller

and some transport
