Weekend Photo Fun 12/14/07 to Whenever

That is some bucket, Bob. Is it really that big or does the lens distance make it look better? BTW, I hate it when guys say "I threw a few things together for a photo" and it looks better than my permanent layout. :)

This photo will answer both of your questions:

The shovel is HO, fairly small as you can see. The extreme wide angle lens gives an exagerated perspective, making closer parts look bigger.

And as you can see, I did literally throw some things together for the photo shoot. The Styrofoam hills in the back were removed from my first pair of modules that I recently dismantled. The base is another piece of Styrofoam that I've used many times to pose models on. I do have a pair of modules, but they are normally boxed together in a closet and too much effort to set them up just for photos. And they have too many distracting details to take model shots.

I painted the wall sky blue and added the clouds for such photography. The wide angle lens takes in so much of the background that portable ones just aren't big enough.

And that's how I did it!

Great Shots everyone ! Corey always liked your layout pictures , Zyphr nice Motive power , Ray I kinda like the second shot . Steve and John looks like things are moving along nicely , Bob That is one nice shovel can I borrow it for some garden digging? Joe nice Switcher and rolling stock .

Bob, Thanks for the picture of that setup for the shot. It sure looks like a lot more when you take the picture.....but I still hate you anyway. :D

Joe, please tell me you've called Walthers and you are going to replace those warped handrails. Those pictures make me dizzy. :)

Weekend Pictues of Casino

This is what I was doing Thursday Night . Went to our local Native American Casino . .My friend treated my wife and myself to a free room . These were taken from the twenty-third floor from Niagara Falls, US across the river is Niagara Falls, Canada . You can make out the rapids before they go over the falls in the one picture. Pardon my lousy camera it was near night and a new one is on my Santa's list .

Paul, those pictures bring back some memories of 2003, lots of snow, and a few nights in a Greyhound station.

Joe, I'm glad you'e getting the replacements. Except for having to slightly enlarge one mounting hole, they snapped right in and are straight as an arrow now. I added some CA from the inside of the shell to ensure the little buggers have no place to move. Josh, I would have gone with brass as replacement but Walthers shipped me the handrails plus a whole bag of detail parts like grabs, winterization windows, and MU stands. Good deal for free. :)

Paul, nice pictures, actually, although they certainly personify the idea of how gloomy the world gets up there at dusk in the winter.

John, that platform looks better every time I see it. Your picture reminds me that I've got a whole box of little people I haven't put on the layout yet and I guess I should spend some time doing that.

For the SPF I submit the following video:

This is 61 (by my count) autoracks being pulled around the Pacific Northwest Modular Railroaders layout at the Great Train Expo at the Clark County Fairgrounds, Vancouver, WA on Saturday, Dec 15. Looks like one Genesis SD70 and 2 Kato SD90s are doing the pulling. The amount of money invested in that one train (the cars retail at $60) is kinda staggering.

Pretty nice show - I got a BN Trainman GP38-2 for 49.95, added a TCS decoder to it. and got a few other cars, a couple of which actually had decent discounts. I think my locomotive buying days are pretty much complete now.

Nice train. As you say, a few bucks tied up in that train. I see they couldn't resist sticking a caboose on the end though. :)

Jerome, can you send your paint and decaling crew over here for a while. I'll pay union wages...at least the Alabama version of union wages. :D

Josh,

I was going of the Walther's page... which I know see was for 2-packs. Missed that. Sigh. Oh, and someone else counted only 60 - they're probably right. The guys running the layout were too busy chatting with each other to talk to a spectator who was obviously interested in the layout.
