For those of you who live in the NY, NJ, CT tri-state area the new 35 million dollar walkway over the Hudson atop the former 1.25 mile, 212 ft high NH steel railroad bridge in Poughkeepsie, NY will have its grand opening this weekend 10/3,4. The link below will bring you to the schedule of events page. I plan on being there Sunday. I’ll have a black golf hat on with a white Titleist ball maker affixed to the brim. It can be very windy on this bridge so have a coat handy. Hope to see you there.

Amazing! My only worry is it might become the new "place to go" for people committing suicide...
Josh I know because the bridge is now a part of the New York state parks system that question was asked to one of the state senators and he didn’t seem to be to worried about it. It has a 5 ft stainless steel fence on both sides if that helps anything.

5 foot isn't very high. Seems like a lot of money to spend for a walking bridge when the state is bankrupt. It does look great though.
It would look pretty nice on a layout too.

I believe most states that are not bankrupt are very close to it, and the current state of the economy is not getting better.
Ny is not bankrupt on paper because they raised/added taxes to make up the deficit

I'm glad the bridge got preserved since it's one of the largest civil engineering landmarks in the country. I do wish they had considered a better suicide barrier. If it doesn't get done at the beginning, it's almost impossible to get it changed later. We've had a running, 40 year battle to get a suicide barrier added the the Golden Gate Bridge and it still hasn't been done. The total number of suicides from the bridge is unknown but is at least 1,200. The Bridge and CHP has officers that patrol in cars, sidewalk carts, and bicycles, but it doesn't stop people who want to jump, who come from all over the world to commit suicide there. Landmarks like the GG Bridge and, now, the Poughkeepsie Bridge, have an allure to suicidal people. I won't get into the tax and revenue issues but I know a five foot fence is not enough to keep people from going over the side. I hope it doesn't start happening there but I fear it will without a more robust suicide barrier.
