I’ve been browsing online the last few weeks looking at various vehicles and figure packs. I finally found some the other day that interested me so I went ahead and ordered them. I received them today
The vehicles are a 1974 Buick Estate Wagon and a 1978 Chevy Sedan. The figures are the Woodland Scenics “Senior Citizens” and “General Public” packs.
I’ve been working on the lines for the utility poles and had some difficulties getting the correct look for the lines. I purchased some higher quality string from the local crafts store in hopes that it would allow for more “workability” but I couldn’t quite get it.
I ultimately decided to apply tension to keep the lines straight. It’s not the most realistic look but it does the job.
I was having trouble deciding what to do with the ends of the lines on the utility poles so I decided to create a couple shorter poles and adhere the ends to those. Once they’re dry, i’ll cut the remaining string off.
I’ve also gone ahead and weathered the wheel stops for the spur tracks. Once they’re dry, i’ll add them to the layout.
On a different note, one of the last few things I need to do on the layout to make it “complete”, is construct the offloading pipes for bulk flour at the bakery and corn syrup at the bottling plant. I plan to scratch build these using some basic materials. I had some extra .125” styrene strips left, as well as some small wooden dowels and some leather cording. I highly recommend using the leather cording for hoses and such as it works really well!
I plan to construct something similar to the images below:
I forgot to upload these the other day but i’ve gone ahead and installed the wheel stops on both spur tracks.
I also went ahead and took a few pictures of the figures on the layout. If you’ve seen the layout tour, you’ll probably have noticed them but just in case you didn’t, here’s some pictures
I plan to purchase a few more figures and vehicles in the future.
