train identification help

Ok im trying to figure out who makes/what is the train in the picture (see below or if the image doesn't load for you click the link) as Im kinda wanting to get it. Im pretty sure it a euro type train but not sure who the manufacture is or what the name of it is...

here is the site I found the pic on: http://www.euromodeltrains.com

Also, try; Micro-Mundo.com in Miami, Fl. They are a discount shop for all Eurotrains.

I assume you mean the manufacturer of the prototype, not the model, but just incase you didn't the model is most likely made by Marklin seeing as their name is on the image.

As for the train, can't tell you what it is but I can tell you it's German, because that's the Deutsche Bundesbahn logo on the front. :)

EDIT: Scratch that! Looking at the picture some more I thought the sloped nose looked familiar, and it dawned on me that this train was used by the German team from Miniatur Wunderland in James May's The Great Train Race. It's a DB Class 403 EMU, predecessor of the ICE I posted above.

YAY and if your correct and it is, its gonna be MINE!!! ;)

Hi, That looks like a DB (German Railways) class 403.
Here is a link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DB_Class_403

The Marklin photo does not give the view for which they are known as "Donald Duck" for reasons that may be obvious from the link.
The Euromodel trains page shows the complete train as item 37778.
Hope this helps.
Colin.

anyone know if I can find the complete ICE set, and I don't want the magnetic set...that feels cheap to me :(? im gonna get the 403 and the ICE train, but i want to have the cars that hook together with hard couplers or what ever...

Just FYI Marklin stuff is usually 3 rail stull in HO kind of like 3 rail Lionel. Marklins 2 rail version stuff is sold under the TRIX name. The train in question is a 4 unit set made by Marklin/TRIX and you can see it on page 2 of the new products here. http://www.euromodeltrains.com/cgi-bin/search_new_items.pl Even then its $870! European stuff is expensive and I dabble in a little of it. As for ICE trains which one are you looking for? There are Various Versions.

ICE V ICE Test train
ICE 1 2 loco and 12 - 14 car consist
ICE 2 1 Loco 6 coaches and 1 cab car
ICE 3 8 Unit EMU train
ICT 7 Unit Tilting EMU train
ICVT 4 Unit Diesel Tilting EMU train

I have a ICE 1 from Fleischmann and a Trix ICE 3 and they run nice.

which ever will offer me the ICE and give me actual couplers, not the magnetic junk...and I would say any if fine...if i had to pic i would be going more for ICT and ICVT (i don't really want the pantographs if possible as I do not have any over head power lines [name slips my mind at the moment])

Catenaries?

Are you after ICE specifically or just want some high-speed trains? Kato make a TONNE of various Shinkansen as well as a lot of other Japanese express trains, although I've only looked for and seen it in N.

For HO look at Fleischmann, TRIX, PECO, ROCO. They make soem of the better quality stuff. MOST of the ICE sets are rarely broken up so the model sets have plastic drawbars as in the ICE1 set I have or a electrical plug coupling like the TRIX ICE3 I have. ROCO makes an ICE and its shorter then the real car as the cars are HO scale but they are 1:100 in length to deal with Small European layouts with tight curves. Flieschmann Makes the most accurate ICEV. ICE1, ICE2, ICT. Trix and Peco make a NICE ICE3. There are also the Mehano French TGV trains which are nice.

If your after European trains then check these places.

well im going for more ICE (german) and I would like to if possible get the 1:87 scale of the real deal, as my lay out is a semi german town so as for high speed if its not depecting a specific name or location I could work it in, but I am gonna try to stay with German/Dutch area or American high speed trains...prefferably would like to have the "bullet train" look if possible (will be some what flexible but will look and consider bullet trains over non bullet trains...)

as for the plastic draw bar stuff, i would rather have that then the magnetic stuff, I have played with that and it proved more problematic for what I want to do with it...(high speed rails with some turns and grades) and a few "S" curves involved.

SO heres my shopping list I would like to boil things down

ICE-tilting (if possible)
DCC enabled/on board
compadible with all current DCC equipment (i have bachman DCC set up and at this time it is NOT feasible for me to switch to any thing else)
German (or german area of world/dutch/amsterdam or American high speed rail train
streamlined bullet style (no seperate cars or large gaps or clunky couplers)
no pantographs (if possible, if not train will be modded to fit desires)
minimal marking (if possible)

I saw a couple of brand new ICE sets at this store a couple of months ago.
www.nstrains.com
Give them a call, maybe they still have them.
A guy at the club has a set of them and it's the fastest model train I've ever seen. Literally at least 3x faster than my bachmann acella.

There is also the Eurostar trains that run between France and England via the Chunnel. They have pantographs but also lower them and run off third rail power in England. Thats a train you wouldnt have to modify too. But you can always run the trains with the pans down and not worry about it.

Here is a pic of the train with the pan down and on 3rd rail.

Wow, I can't believe how dirty the Eurostart trains are in the photos above. It's not like they're diesels, I guess they forgot to install a washrack when they built the line?

Thats a Dutch IRM Class Regiorunner. I think the only one available was made by LIMA which is now owned by Hornby I think.
