The 60/40 Layout And Other Railway Related Things

Went on my favourite auction site, and saw this Athearn SD40-2 with factory fitted sound, put in a stupid offer ($60) and it was accepted !!!!!, I feel bad now as I know it's worth more.

Also waiting for this to arrive from Canada.

The two locomotives in post #744 have arrived and are very nice, run well and the sound on the SD40 is great too.

Ordered two of these low-sided cars, just cheap Chinese ones for two loads I have sitting around somewhere, unlike the other Evemodels cars I have, these roll like bricks, so some truck tuning will be required.

Practically done with these, I need to do some more weathering along the bottom edges of the cars also have to order some more wheelsets, I'm one set short so I used a KD and nope, has quite a bit of drag for some reason that the metal axles don't have, tried the truck tuner and no real difference so I'll wait for the new ones to arrive.

Got the loads ready for these cars, I need to find some straps or chains for them.

That’s a great looking engine load.

Great job!l

I think it looks great!
If by large you mean weight wise as I recall when hauling them the average prime mover at the time was 40,000 lbs more or less.
I did get some bigger ones that were close to maxing us out, towards 50,000 lbs maybe?
They look out of proportion to my eyes, they're OO-scale engines on HO-scale cars, or maybe it's just me.

These arrived earlier in the week, now I know someone will be wondering why I need so many, well, I don't, but due to USPS's extremely reasonable postage rates, I decided to make it worth the cost (and I got a nice discount on ordering multiple items as well).

4X SD70 cab interiors. I only wanted one, but they don't have any other cab interiors so I'll play around and see if with some modification I can get them to fit other locos
4X Sun shades I've made a few of these from styrene myself, but they were cheap to buy, and I needed something to bulk the order with.
4X Ditch lights with lamps. These were what I wanted, see if I can add a few to the locomotives that have front ditch lights but none on the rear.

A marine engine !!!! Flipping 'eck, I suppose I'll have to build a wharf now. 🤣 🤣🤣
A wharf? Your not thinking big enough here!

You will now need a seaport with a container ship for all that newly acquired intermodal equipment.

OK, let me win the lottery first then I can move to the US, I'll never find a place big enough in the UK for all the layout building you guys keep finding me to do.

Finally got off my proverbial rear end and at least 3/4 finished a job that's needed doing for quite a while, at the rear of the layout I have/had two switches which were the shorter Hornby ones, they worked, but I found that quite a few HO loco's didn't like them and would derail, I swapped out the set I had at the front and the locos seem a lot happier, so I've now swapped out the set at the rear.

I've just put a few screws in to hold it all in place, next step is to lift the board, wire in the three "new" sets of feeders and wire up the "new" Peco turnout motor as obviously, being longer turnouts, I need to move the motor and I won't remove the old motor till I get underneath.

Finally, the Passenger car Interiors have arrived, I can't complain as these were only ordered on the 28 April from Palace Car Company in Oak Harbour, so a damn sight better than that other company.

Also the Decals arrived from Canada earlier this week, so now hopefully, I can crack on finishing the passenger cars.

That's it, I'm going back to bed, what a BS of a day.

I needed to swap out the two R/H points at the rear of my layout, did that earlier and only needed to re-attach the feeders and move the Peco PL10 point motor slightly, and move the PL11 motor to its new position.

Attached the feeders, no shorts, happy man, moved the undersurface motor and wished I hadn't, it took me an hour just to move the motor about 2mm, very small screws and in a really hard place to get to, wired up the PL11 motor, all good, ermmmm nope, nothing works, no clicks, nothing, an hour later worked out the PL10 was causing the problem, ok, removed it and used a spare PL11 in its place, wired it all up, tested it, nope, nothing again, checked the wiring three times, nothing wrong, all as it should be.

Removed both PL11's and tested them on my workbench, both, somehow, are burnt out ????? I have no idea why or how tho', all my other point motors are fine.

Both PL11 motors were tested before installing them and they definitely worked, so I don't even know where to start, I may have to re-wire the whole circuit.

To add insult to injury, while faffing around with the PL10 I forgot to move the new express point and managed to crush it between the boards, so I've now had to buy 2 Peco PL11 Point motors and a new R/H express turnout.
