Morning... <yawns> coffee IV please

47° now in The Fort. Expected high in the lower 70s.

I about tossed my phone across the room. D$@##$% weather app had an ad for something with a snake's head hissing at me. WHY do ad designers use phobia triggers as key images?
<mumbles darkly into coffee>

checked my other weather app. It has a better attitude:

Did you cancel the coffee order? You were plenty awake after the snake? I've got some nice creepy crawly pics and snakes if you wan'na see them? Aussie specialises in'em.

Welcome to Friday MRR's. Hope this day finds everybody doing well.
50 outside and RAINING! That's right, water falling out of the sky🌧🌧🌧 Darn it's been a long time!
Flo, hashbrowns and a couple of sausage patties, w/gravy & a couple of over easy eggs on top. Sourdough texas toast w/grape jelly and a large oj to wash it all down...thanx.

Willie, and your water leak, man, how lucky is that on the timing? Knock on wood I haven't had a close call with a leak, but my folks had returned home after a weekend away only to find that a kitchen sink water line had sprung a leak and covered the kitchen floor in over an inch of water. Yikes!
Nice little feed store ya got there. Sorry don't remember if you had said were it was going to be located, possibly rail served?

Mcleod, nice pic of the train/bridge action shot. Enjoy all the pics you post!

Chad, interesting reliability list you posted. LG towards the top? huuummmo_O Here's an appliance I haven't seen mentioned yet, American made by the good people of North Carolina, CROSLEY. I have a washer dryer set I aquired from my mom when she passed away 7 years ago. Don't know how long she had them, but they're both working good, and, when I bought this house, it had a Crosley range/oven. What are the odds of that?

I have the second weather app, and it definitely has an attitude.

Good morning. 42 degrees to start off the day with a few more mild days before the deep freeze moves in.

Willie - That is an excellent job on the feed store. Looks fantastic. There is only one shop locally that will repair LG appliances up here. None of the opther shops will touch them. I happen to have know the owned for over 30 years and he recommends staying away from LG appliances also. He calls them garbage, and recommends Frigidaire, Maytag and Whirlpool and a few others. When he tried to repair the LG dishwasher a few years ago with LG not know what the problem was and just throwing parts at it we sent it off to the dump after putting over $300 into it and replaced it with a Maytag. (Made in the USA) He also recommended staying away from Samsung appliances, also made in Korea. They engineer the appliances just good enough to get by. The parts are cheap. Way have a Kenmore Washer and Dryer that we bought from a friend that had to move out of town around 35 years ago. All I have done to them is replace the heating element in the dryer twice. An inexpensive part and a 15 minute job to replace. We had thought about replacing them but with what we've seen lately with new appliances we are keeping them until something fatal happens to them.

I am not a fan of Facebook but did go on to locate my brother because I lost his phone number when my cell phone crapped out. There is a page for LG appliances horror stories. Something else to read through. Their customer service suck TomO. Heard other stories like your daughters there.

McLeod - Like the proto photos and the figures.

More archive photos.

Nice layout. Nothing but the best when it comes to vehicles I see! :) Oxford Classics, CMW, Athearn. I have quite a few of those models myself. I bought several of those Rocket 88's, as well as those Ford wagons. You can put a serious dent in your wallet getting vehicles on the streets of a medium sized town! Back when we had train shows I could find Oxfords discounted. Now its a bit more of a challenge!

Morning all,

Foggy and 50° this morning, but it's supposed to be clear and sunny with a high of 70°. Wind advisory for this afternoon through Sunday as well.
High through the weekend in the low 70's.

So far no one showing symptoms at the daughter's house. Exposure was a week ago (Saturday night actually). Thanks for all the well wishes on their behalf.

On vacation in less than 4 hours. I'll try to get on during the next week.

Good morning, y'all. Happy Friday! Sunny and 46°. Yesterday was near perfect. In and out of Costco without a fuss. After lunch, we walked for a mile, then I spent some time working on the layout. The fall weather was fantastic. Hope today will be more of the same.

Not to be outdone by Sherrel and that Fantastic Frisco Race Horse,

Baltimore Wreck Train 04-09-1986 at Winans (Halethorpe, MD.).jpg

Twelve years later, in 1986, the Baltimore Wreck train reverses direction at Winans Interlocking in Halethorpe, MD. The Hook is a dieselized 150Tn derrick, the balance of the train is from the Reading, and the Panel gonds are stock PRR.

Good Morning Everyone. It's partly cloudy and 56° with a hint of fog here. Forecast is still for mid to upper 70's for at least another week, somewhat windy conditions starting this afternoon. On the grocery/beer trek yesterday, I noted that gas was going for $1.54/gal at many places. Beats the $1.71/gal that we saw in Alabama last week.

Just an English Muffin and a couple of sausage patties for me today Flo.

Thanks to all who commented or reacted to the feed store yesterday; Dave, Karl, Phil, Tom O, Sherrel, Gary, Patrick, Joe, James, Chet, Curt, Garry, Tom, Ken, Jerry.

Trainwise out in the train shed, I worked some more on the feed store. Blair Line included this four piece laser-cut soda machine with the kit.
IMG_4989.JPG

Also included are six really nice pallets. Here they are just after I applied the glue, along with the soda machine.
IMG_4990.JPG

Here are a couple of mock-up shots after I assembled and added the sign, gable ends under the eaves, smokejack, etc.

And finally the rear.

Today I go to the figure stash and search.

Tom O - That's a shame that your wife's friend lost the store in a "peaceful protest".
Guy - Finally got the picture (second one) that you have been waiting for.
Chet - Another really great visit to the archives. While I have seen most of your structures by now, some of the angles and views that you have posted lately are new to me.
Joe - While oil revenues are high in Texas, the top two revenue generators in the state are state sales tax, currently at 6.25% and lottery revenues. The sales tax is a reasonable alternative to no city or state income tax. The state as a whole has a pretty good "rainy day fund".
In case of a disastrous leak, our water company does offer a 35% forgiveness reduction, but it's only allowed once every three years. I already used my allowance earlier this year. I am real fortunate to have spotted this one almost as soon as it happened judging by the lack of nearby ground soaking.
I really like the pictures that you post with the historical comments. Adds a lot of depth to my learning about eastern railroads.
Patrick - Continued best wishes for your daughter and family.

Everybody have a great day.

Good morning from Wisconsin. Weather continues to be beautiful. Yesterday’s scenic and hobby shop trip derailed about 10 minutes into it. Family drama...

Snakes, if they had appeared on my phone, it have gone flying. Weather apps, I have the weather channel and they are decently ok.

Have a great day and please continue posting the pictures

TomO

Morning, everyone! I'm glad I live in the boreal zone, as the prairie zone is going to get the crap kicked out of it with winter storms this weekend. The looming winter storm system is supposed to miss us altogether. - We won't escape the cold, though. 24°F right now, with not much warming on the way. - That lake ice will be ready to walk on soon, if it isn't already. The general rule is 1" of ice for 1 man's weight. I generally wait for 3" before I dare go out there. One has to consider the weight of warm clothing and fishing gear.

Does your camera have a multi-exposure rapid firing shutter than can do a few a second?
No, my point-n-shoot camera dose'nt have such fancy features. It's a Canon Sure-Shot that cost me $45.00, and is in no way a fast camera. It takes acceptable photos, though. Thanks for asking.

And, Thank You to all who like my freight on the bridge photo. I was trying to get a photo like that off and on over the summer . As time went on, I got smarter as to when I might acquire such a photo. I learned that one must watch what the workers are doing in the local yard and what type of engines are there. Four powerful locomotives in the yard mean they are prepared to pick-up something bigger than usual, like a very lengthy freight train.
When I observed the four engines leaving the yard in the direction of the staging area, I knew they would be coming back with payload. They would have to come back through town to direst towards either Edmonton or Vancouver. That was the trigger to make me head to the bridge and wait.
Here's a photo of those four engines exiting the yard to go pick up the freight. I went to the bridge location right after I took this photo, and waited:
CN_11-05-2020 (3).jpg

It wasn't very long before those engines came back over the bridge, tugging a long freight line. Now I know, it's a lot less time consuming to be smart rather than lucky, when you are waiting for a train to cross a bridge.

Sherrel - A very nice EA-7 photo. I especially enjoy photos from that time period, and always study the scene as well as the main subject. That photo was taken in an easier time; a more 'free', less dangerous period in history. It is a wonderful photo.
Boris - Always very nice period photos from you! Well done!
Curt - The layout is really advancing along. It is obvious you are building it in a very nice room, as well. - Mine will be built in a basement, in the dungeon.
Patrick - I truly hope that the daughter will be OK. It can be very hard on us when our siblings are ill; prayers that everything works out!
Willie - Wonderful job on the feed store. Seeing that laser-cut pop machine certainly gives me ideas for a scratch-build coming up!
Garry - Hope you can resolve the illness issues you are having. Take it easy; make sure you drink enough fluids, other than alcohol.

One more industry photo for the road! I took this pic of a log transport a couple of months ago. It must be used to jostle logs in the sawmill yard only, as I don't believe it is street legal:
Buggy_09-09-2020.jpg

That's all for today, folks. Have a good one!

Good Day to ALL!
The jury is out on the pups being able to tell time? I advanced the clock by an hour and the pups woke me with 6:15 showing on the clock rather than the correct time which was 5:15AM. Tonight I will set it back to the proper time and see what happens - I better get a notebook and keep track of the observations?

It was 92 degrees yesterday and expected 72 today and 57 on Saturday. I see that Jerry is getting some rain so I had better look and see if I think it will make it down here to usins.

Thanks for the comments and likes on the photo I POSTED LAST EVENING.

Speaking of Crosley - one of my cousins (a few years older) had a Crosley car around the time when he was a senior in high school. I wonder what happened to that car? All of 26.5 horsepower and able to go 40 mph!

Speaking of water leaks - I had a line separate in the attic of our home in Laughlin, NV.
We had just left for a visit to California and not been gone more than 6 hours when it came apart. Long story short - a tee pulled apart on a "stick together" plastic fitting and did $26k worth of damage. Insurance covered it with no problems and did not cancel nor raise rates!

Yawn -- need more coffee! Later!

That's a nice little feed store. If I know Blair Line, probably pretty reasonable price wise. Watch those tab remnants Willie ;) The camera rats you out every time. I found the same thing on some windows on my O'Niell's build. It's super easy to miss little things then find them when you photograph the model. You look at the pics and say "WHAT?"

You're right about the tab remnants. I thought that I filed them all off, but spotted one when I previewed the pictures. Should have worn the Optivisors when I assembled it. It was filed but just not enough. That one will be easy to fix though. Even if no one will be able to see it on the layout, it will bother me if I don't fix it.

Good morning .... I actually awoke this morning. That is an accomplishment. Still I will be brief.

Sherrel ..... Frisco 2000 looks beautiful. That is an E8A.

Curt .... Nice progress on your layout.

..

KATO has survey about what products they should offer in HO. ..... One of the choices is a CB&Q E5A. .... On their website, they should what is being considered and ask for votes. ...You can also go to a page to enter your requests. ...... I did that. ... I requested in addition to the E5A, the include an E5B. ... I also requested a train for the locomotive: ... My suggestion is the vista-dome Twin Cities Zephyr. I rode on that train several times when I was young. ....

The train is Budd-built with 7 cars: Baggage/Lounge car. ; Dome-coach with flat glass for dome. ; 3 dome-coaches with curve glass for dome.: Dining car; Dome Parlor Observation .....

The flat glass dome is unique and historical. Silver Dome was the first vista dome ever built. CB&Q shops built it from a prewar Budd coach.

Extra cars to expand the train should be considered. These would be coaches without domes and parlor cars without domes. Also, a Budd mail car might be included.

Here is a publicity picture of the Twin City Zephyr. Notice the E5A and E5B.

Glad you are on the "green side" of the grass, GARRY!

NOPE: That is the first EA-7 (#2000) that 'FRISCO' bought. I forget the year of overhaul , but I believe it was 6 of those units that were "remodeled" to look like the newer E8A's.
Notice that they were called EA-7 (factory designation) rather than E-7A.
