Running Bear's January 2025 Coffee Shop

I have great news about my little Angel!

We just got back from the orthopedic doctor, Angela's ankle and foot look great. She is healing faster than expected. It turned out she had a broken foot and a severely twisted ankle. The break was no longer noticeable on the x-ray and the torn ligaments are all but completely healed!

They gave her a special brace, she can wear her tennis shoes, no more boot and crutches, she is so happy! She is using a cane for stability. In six weeks or less, it should be as though nothing happened, thank God.

Good to hear she'll be back to kicking you in the butt when needed!

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with fluffy white stuff.

It's troy again.

Cat and I settled in for a three hour nap. My patio was clean when I hit the recliner. This is what I woke up to:

Wait! I was inside, the entire time... are those footprints?

Well, look what the Amazon driver brought!

Now the cat and I have something to read.

That pic reminds me. Anyone use Vallejo paints to paint their rails and ties? if so, what color for each (or both)?

That's great news!

Will she have to do any kind of therapy?

That kinda reminds me of when I stupidly used a wheeled office chair to stand on, and fell. It was a Friday, and I drove 3 hours to meet my wife and daughter at a hockey camp.

My knee hurt. A lot. The next week I went to the hospital, and saw an orthopedist. Had the x ray done. When the resident saw me, she talked about a possible hairline fracture.

The orthopedist came in, looked at the X-rays, and said, ‘as even a layman can see, you broke a corner off your kneecap’. And pointed it out on the x ray.

He was most definitely making a point to the resident that she was missing something. My kneecap looked like a Dorito with one corner broken off. How she missed it, I don’t know, but I can guarantee you they had a conversation about it later. I didn’t do anything about it, because even having surgery wouldn’t actually accomplish anything other than making the dorito look better. I still chuckle at the way he said that. I hope she went on to a great career, and remembered to look at all of the images before making a conclusion.

Luckily we don't have much of that around here that I've seen. I'd turn around and walk out. I don't carry cash and if someone doesn't want my business I'll take it elsewhere. As a business owner who took cards I was annoyed by the costs of them but it was part of doing business and allowed me to do much more business than I otherwise would have been able to do.
Here in Jersey the surcharge is 4%. Gas stations add 10¢/gallon for CC usage. I'm back to writing checks and gassing up at Clubs like Costco. Greed vs. Greed with the consumer caught in the middle.

That looks like a great book to read and digest.

do you have this one, it is a must as well? This book might help get the juices flowing for your new layout design.

I had the 2nd edition many years ago, but traded it off when we moved to California. Probably should get a copy. BRB!

Out of print now, and not on the Trains.com website. Amazon has used copies going for $45ish. Found it on Biblio for $34ish. With shipping and tax it came to just under $40

I can enjoy the modelling side, and not get bored with mundane, real world that I tend to avoid in gaming. There is no reason my railroad can't be freelanced into the magical worlds I write in my books. Off course the local distillery in one town will have the dwarves running it. That's what 3D printers are for. Now, 1:160 scale dwarves are going to be pretty small if I stay with N Scale, but the orcs a few towns over, who purchase the Dwarven ale are a bit bigger. I'll see where my imagination takes me.
Why not, after all it is your railroad! Heck, Christian has dinosaurs on his, why can't you have dwarfs and Orcs? I have recently renewed my modelers license and plan on running 2 railroads on the same tracks separated by 50 years!

Hey Len, if you haven't already, be sure to check out Harry Bunk's Union Central and Northern (UC&N) narrow gauge layout at the UP Museum downtown. And welcome to Wyoming.
Thanks Dave,
We were in Cheyenne in October of '23. The Depot Museum was the first place I went. Fabulous museum! Spent most of the day there and wandering around downtown. Didn't make it to the model railroad club but that's at the top of my to-do list.

Some gas stations surcharge $0.10 a gallon for credit cards. Not ones I use.

I’ve not seen other brick and mortar establishments (stores, restaurants, etc) doing any sort of surcharge though I don’t doubt there are some.

Question gang!
What is considered normal shipping time these days?

Back in the day when I did Fleabay sales, I always shipped items on the next business day. I figured it was the proper thing to do and a small way to honor the sales commitment and show I appreciated the business.
Recently (last Saturday) I purchased an engine on ebay. I figured it would be shipped from S.C. on Monday, Tuesday at the latest and I would have it by this weekend at the latest. Tracking shows the USPS label was not created til Thursday and the package was not physically picked up til today (Friday). Is this the new post covid norm? I'm really disappointed in the state of eBay if it is.

Well eBay had nothing to do with shipping it. That is an issue with the seller. eBay sends via email the shipping label within minutes to me after eBay gets paid. Usually shipping Is USPS ground advantage which is a 3 day service after the USPS receives it.This sounds to me like your seller was lazy after payment, maybe the weather caused the seller an issue

Cold and a little bit of snow falling here in Baltimore this morning. Some more of my track came in last night. I think I'm ready to get started on my HO layout. Had to take some time to clean up the mess that was on my train platform.

I will be running DC, system..... DCC is nice but it's not for me, right now. My platform is small.....4-feet by 11-Feet.

I'll have 7 elect. remote turnouts, and 2 manual....... Five of the elect. turnouts are the older Life-Like, never opened, new old stock, and 2 new Bachmann. That should be more than enough.

I have a bunch of layouts I wrote down on paper. So, I'm sure it will probably take me a couple of weeks or so to lay down the layout that I want.

I did test the Live-Life turnouts, and they worked just fine. Also been putting together some building structures I got for Xmas. and I have some from my slot car track. That should be enough to get me started.
