I have a set of 3 NJ Transit 85' horizon fleet commuter coaches model 932-6072 (http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/932-6072) and a wheelset is lost (the truck assembly is intact just missing 1 wheelset). The original wheels are metal (unpainted). I have tried to search for replacement wheels but am unsure exactly what to order. I am unsure of the scale wheel size......perhaps I should order new trucks with bearings for better performance. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

No one makes trucks with bearings for those cars.

Imperial Hobby Productions (IHP) made trucks for them, but IHP seems to have bitten the dust. (they also weren't cheap, $20 a pair)

The wheel size is 36" on the model. The prototype has smaller wheels (33" I believe) but if you put 33" wheels on it, the car will ride too low.

I'd get some 36" junker steamer pilot truck wheels or something that isn't spoked, or get an Intermountain 36" wheel and snip off the needlepoints.

You can try to call Walthers for parts, but they don't carry very many.

i can't find my friends email address. But if you goto railroad.net and scroll to the bottom of the forums to the HO/model train forum look for the name, approachmedium. He should be able to help you out. He has modeled NJT and has quiet a few of those cars. He might even have spare parts.

Thanks again for your help. I was running my NJ transit train last night and was plagued with uncoupling issues. As it turns out, the passenger car couplers ride way higher than all my locomotive couplers. I think I may try some 33" wheels to lower it a bit so that the engine couplers and the passenger car couplers meet better. For now I jerry rigged the F40PH engine's couplers so that they come close to the pass car's couplers.

Check the floor. Unscrew the floor and pop it out, then put it on a flat surface to check. Sometimes the floor of the car warps and the coupler height is either too high or too low. My solution is to use Kadee #118s tom compensate for the ever-changing coupler height so that they don't uncouple.
