I thought the roots were supposed to be below the ground

Pretty good for a first try.

Now please don't laugh...
Well I don't know, but it doesn't look much different than a tree that my neighbor planted this fall, and I didn't laugh at that. But OTOH he paid $50 for his.

Cheers

Looks like you need to add more to the underlying branches before you add the foam/ leaves. Super Trees is a great way to start making good looking trees. Also you can search here for other ways to do it.

Bernie, it's a perfect Charlie Brown Christmas tree. :) Throw a few small ornaments on it and use it as the inspiration for your next attempt.

try,try try again Bernie, we all have to learn some how ! Do what i did buy the woodland sceinic tree kits they come out great!:)

Say Bernie,

Not too bad for yopur first attempt.

Maybe trim some of the longer sections to allow it to stand more errect.
Various roots are use to make trees as they often similuate scale trees better than what
is above ground.

Keep looking around, there are quite a number of things nature provides that make pretty nice trees.

Caspia for example makes great Pine Tree branches when use with a Balsa wood trunk.
Get a square piece of Balsa wood or Bass Wood [Stronger] and a hack saw blade to use to take the four edges of the square shaft and also add some bark effect, use some light red to light brown stain to give the trunk some color, can even add touches of light grey, drill holes and insert/glue some of the Caspias branches, larger at the bottom tapering to small at the top and you'll have a great looking Pine or Redwood tree.

Don't start too close to the bottom, probably a couple of inches up and be sure to add some dead, bare branches below the green upper growth.

I've uses this method for medium trees and even used throw away chop sticks to make smaller trees from and the stem of a Yucca blossum also makes a great tree trunk or the Pride of Maderia stem after the blossom falls off.

This is a bit time consuming but sure produces some great looking trees.
