I've been seriously involved in this hobby for about 15 years. I was in N scale for a long time before I made the switch to Ho. I built 3 N scale layouts, and this is my second Ho layout.

I got a start when I was in grade school 40 years ago/ Those were some very crude layouts back then!
 
Sorry, I meant just the benchwork…. My longest straight of track on the mainline is roughly 4 ft, a lot of curves. Running by the yard will be a few more feet of straight, but not by much. Yours looks like a decent length, something I would prefer…
The peninsula is 27 feet in total length. My straight run of track would be about 20-21 feet. The curves on both ends of it will eat up about 3 feet each. I wanted more, but I can't take up any more basement storage than I already have.
 
Backdrops now has 2 coats of primer.
