"retired" conductor
Hi all!
I am looking for a "retired" Walthers kit, namely the large "Valley Cement" complex from a few years back. If you have seen one recently at your local LHS, please let me know where with a phone number and I'll take it from there.
I've now got a 2 x 16 ft area that needs a heavy industry, plus I've got lots of cement hoppers. More than a Medusa Cement kit could possible handle.
Thanks all!

Have you tried hoyardsale? it' a Yahoo group site.

Bob

Tried 3 times, gave up. Everytime my computer tried to sign me up, it chocked and locked up. Must be all that spam on Yahoo :(

Wife has a Yahoo account on her puter, maybe I can get her to try later.

Valley Cement is dang near impossible to pick up right now, and if you do find one, its on ebay and they sell for big bucks.

Ive got 1 of them right now, built up and on my 8'x2' cement plant module with the Blue Star Ready Mix, 2 Red X Cement Plant kits, and the Asphalt Plant lol

Im also looking to get another Valley Cement plant, but im not willing to shell out big bucks for the kit right now. I got my last one on ebay and paid i think $78 for it, which was a pretty good deal in my opinion. Now i see them selling for much more then that, when they do pop up on ebay here and there.

Ill wait until Walthers does another run on them.... Walthers never officially retires there cornerstone kits, they will put them out of production for a while, but they will make a come back, some sooner then others.... Its all about the demand for the kits. If the demand is high on them, they will take the time and spend the money to make new tooling for the kits and push them out again. Its just a matter of time before this Valley Cement kit comes out again, it was a popular kit when it was out, and i have a feeling it was one of there better sellers of the Cornerstone Series kits. It was only out for a short time if i remember correctly, and during that short time i believe they sold out of them a few times, and the tooling was no longer able to handle more molding. Thats usually when Walthers retires a kit because the tooling just cant handle more molding. Walthers usually takes a few retired kits and does another run on them every once in a while ive noticed. Most recently the Oil Storage Tanks, George Roberts Printing, Amtrak Station, as well as a few others were done as a re-run.

I wish you luck in finding this kit, i know a lot of others who are also looking for the kit and have been looking for a while now, myself included lol. Im currently looking for the Valley Cement, Ford Tire Plant, Superior Paper Plant, and a couple of others... lol

Karl,

Go on the Walthers website and bring up the Valley Cement Structure. The column that say's whether it is in stock or not, also has a "Find it" button. Hit that button and all the hobby shops that purchased the kit will show up. Then it is just a matter of emailing them to find out it they have it in stock. I have used this several times with very good success. Just looking myself, I seen that there are six hobby stores that had ordered this kit. While they ordered in 2007, I may still be in their individual inventories.

Been there, done that. Only one has the kit, but he wants $280.00 for it plus shipping.:eek::eek: Seems they will only sell it with the motion kit for the kiln, the smoke unit for the stack and the "glow" kit for something that they think should glow when the lights are down.:( None of the above I wanted anyway.

I'm with Josh on this one, I'll wait a while, or just scratchbuild a plant of my own.

Thanks anyway for the suggestion. :)

Karl, I will check the local shop, they have a nice selection of older Walthers kits. Or you can give them a call after 5.30pm eastern time. Train Exchange here in Kokomo Indiana. He has a website with the contact info on it. Cheers Mike

Well then, you did find one. It's just pricing. At 280.00, I would be leary. You could probably scratch build for a fraction of the cost and not have to screw with all the bells and whistles that you don't want. I ran into a similar hobby shop in Minnesota that tried to shake me down for a several dollers on a Walthers Propane kit.

3 weeks ago they had one at The Collectible Caboose, in Cedar Park, TX.

The Collectible Caboose
601 E Whitestone Blvd # 304
Cedar Park, TX 78613-9041
(512) 259-9494

Their hours are 10-6, M,T,W,F,S. 10-8 on Thursday, closed Sunday. They do have some younger folks that work there that aren't that knowledgeable on model railroad stuff (it's a combination hobby store and collectible store), but the owner is a model railroader. They also had the Worthington Hotel, which I'd been looking for for a while.

I am having the same problem locating a couple Walther Plastic Pellet Facilities. Unless I want to spend $250 - $300 on EBay for one $25 kit then I am SOL.

ahahahhaha wow what a joke, see that guy is the guy who RIDICULOUSLY overcharges for Walthers kits! Man that guy really makes me angry when i see his outrageous prices and horribly overcharged shipping charges! $300 for the kit, $20 for shipping, lets see, hes pocketing $220 from the kit itself, plus probably another $8-10 on the shipping! Okay okay, take $12-16 bucks off the for the ebay fees and there is his profit on this item. The kit only retailed for $79.98!

Ive seen this guy listing retired Walthers kits like this one all the time for horribly over priced auctions like this one, and rarely do i see one sell. And one does sell, man i feel bad for the buyer, he just got suckered into a rip-off!

This is the guy from Lowery, Minnesota who wanted to charge me 100.00 for a Walthers Propane kit that was out of production that was normally about 22.00. His attitude was "take it or leave it". Fortunately, I was able to find one near Seattle, WA for 22.00.
