How Many engines do you have of a certain mfg'r.?

Larry

Long Winded Old Fart
How many of one or 2 kinds of engines do you have in a certain stable.
I have 15 BNSF engines, 9 Conrail, 10 CSX, 9 NS, 7 Amtrak.
I'm trying to stay w/certain ones, but I have a lot of nice pulling engines I won't get rid of other manufacturers.:D:)

Locos to be used on the layout

2 GM&O
13 SRR
9 Al. Central-composed mostly of steamers that I like that the SRR never had. These are painted into my own roads name. All are steam.

Manufacturer wise, I have 5 Spectrums, 3 MDC, 4 Bowser, 7 PFM, 1 Key, 1 Empire Midland, 5 Akane, 1 Overland, 1 Westside, 1 Atlas, 3 P2K, 1 Varney, 1 IHC, 1 Rivarossi, 3 Hobbytowns and 1 Oriental Limited.

I have several locos in this bunch that will never see a rail on my current layout as they would be totally out of my era, don't fit the theme, or don't have a job to perform at all. These will probably make it to my display case eventually.

Almost all Athearn engines

My NYSW roster is inclueds 4 SD40T-2, 3 SD40-2's, 3 SD70M's, 3 SD45's and 1 SD60,

2 Athearn up Heritage SD70ACe's
2 Athearn P40, 1 in phase 3 and other in phase 5
1 DRGW SD45
1 Atlas GP40-2 NYSW shell.

Custom stuff includeds, 2 RPP SD90MAC's in LV paint, ABBA set of P40's custom made by me, 5 Atlas U34CH's, 1 CNJ IM ES44DC and 1 Athearn SD70M-2 in CNJ, NJ Transit P40.

My roster includes a variety of roadnames, all to eventually be stripped and custom painted as WP colors.

2- Atlas Trainman GP39-2's
2- Atlas Gold 8-40CW's (Both DCC w/ sound)
1- Bachmann Spectrum GP35
5- Bachmann Spectrum 8-40CW's (1 w/ DCC)
3- Rail Power Products 8-40CW's (1 recently converted to a B unit)
1- Athearn RTR GP60M
2- Athearn RTR GP60B's
1- Athearn BB 9-44CW (To be painted as a lease unit "Long Valley Railroad")
5- Athearn BB SD40-2's

So far I have 4 units painted into WP colors, all are superdetailed before painting and will soon become DCC w/ sound!

Lost count about twenty years ago, and have added since! Most of my diesels are Athearn Blue Box Super Power (with the flywheels), ?? F7's and 3 SW1500's, 4 GP7's, 1 SD7. All those in DC.
I have recently acquired 3 Proto2000 E6's (1 turned into a Burlington E5) with DCC and sound, and 3 P2k E7's, 1 P2k F7A/B and 1 Intermountain FP7A/F7B w/DCC & sound; and an Intermountain FTA/B also w/sound & DCC. Lot of problems with the P2k wheels and axles, however.

In steam, I have 3 MDC 0-6-0's which I bought as kits when I was a teen, and modified into a couple of 2-6-0's and a 2-6-2. The majority of my steam, however, is Mantua/Tyco 2-8-2's and 4-6-2's. I only have a couple of each in their original configuration. All but two have been re-motored, and all have had gearboxes installed for lower-speed operations. Four Mantua/Tyco 2-8-2's were used to create a pair of
2-10-2's, and a pair of 2-10-4's. Those have Canon coreless motors (no longer made :( ), and are extensively detailed. A pair of Pacifics were kitbashed to a 4-8-4, and another Pacific was converted into a Burlington S-4, 4-6-4 #4001 (Big Alice the Goon without the steel shrouding, but with the vestibule cab.) All the stretched models will run around 18" radius curves, by virtue of blind center drivers that are shimmed up .010" off the top of the rails.

I haven't tried any of the new Mantua locos, but I bet they run well with the newer can motors and gear boxes. Cheap they ain't anymore, however!

plus some other roadnames but not sure what they are or who they are. when i get the time if it aint NS its gonna go to TMLW for repainting

the gp60's, the sd50, the sd40t-2's and the sd40t-2b, gp38-2 are all athearn
the gp50 bachmann
the gp18 is proto2000 i think

There isn't enough room in this forum for me to list them all. Probably 90% Athearn out of the 400 engines I have.

You have a SD40T-2B?? Put up a pic of it, I am curious of what it looks like!

My roster of loco's isn't too big as the C&S West is a downtrodden line just barely getting by with the occasional purchase of a newer loco as it see's the need. Well actually.......you know the reason!

In current use, HO Drive Rod loco's I have:

1 - 0-4-0 Early Tea Kettle tank loco;
1 – 0-4-0 with tender Early Tea Kettle loco;
1 - 0-4-0 AHM/Rivarossi Dockside with Walschaerts valve Gear;
1 - 0-6-0 MDC Tank Loco;
1 - 0-8-0 kit bashed Tank Loco that was an HOn3;
3 - 4-4-0's An old Mantua, a Brass General?, and a MDC/Roundhouse;
1 - 2-6-0 MDC;
3 - 2-8-0 [2] MDC one is a newer one from Athearn/Roundhouse the other is a older kit I assembled, the 3rd is a PFM Ma&Pa
>1 - 4-6-0 Brass Western Pacific with Oil tender. Runs great but to large for my time period; **For Sale**
>1 - 2-8-2 Brass, Sam Hongosa? with Dog house tender & it Coal fired; ** For Sale **

In Geared in use;
2 - MDC 2 truck Shays

Early Box Cab Diesels;
1 - MCD powered and one Dummy for added track maintenance;

Motorized;
1 - Brass, Old Mack Rail Bus with 2 axel lead truck and 2 axel drive with a little MDC realistic hand car that is towed behind to pull it where it's needed;

1 - Bachman motorized hand car;

>In kit form [MDC] I have [1] 2 truck Shay & [1] 3 truck Shay, both New in Box; ** For Sale**
>I also bought a second 2 truck MDC Shay that was improperly assembled and needs a fair amount of corrective work to get it to run right plus a new cab casting incorrectly glued on, it should be left removeable. ** For Sale **

1 - Rivarossi 4-4-0 General? missing a drive coupling;

In HOn3 Brass;
1 - Iron Horse Miniatures 0-6-0 Tank Loco with full cab interior, a little Gem possibly slated for mine service?;

>1 - PFM K27 Compound Valve 2-8-0 with slope back tender; ** For Sale **

>* I forgot the 1st HO Loco I ever owned, a Mantua 0-4-0 Shifter with tender;
>* Then an 0-6-0 square saddle tank loco. These two are the Old Originals!

So that is 17 currently used or available for service.

I have so little compared to all of you.

(3) Athearn BB GP38's Southern Pacific
(1) Athearn BB GP35 Southern Pacific
(1) Athearn BB SW1500 Southern Pacific
(1) Athearn F59PHI Rail Link
(1) Bachmann GS4 Southern Pacific Daylight

My Athearn BB are so old, how old are they. The price tag on them is $19.99

Buzz.

One thing that has guided me about my roster is how many engines can I realistically maintain as I get older. Plus, how many does the layout actually need?

At one time I had over 125 locos with the vast majority being steam. I have cut that number down to pretty much, less than 30 locos.

Once ops start on the layout, I may find that 30 locos are too much and will be getting rid of some more!

1 intermountain EMD FT A+B; EMD DEMO
1 intermountain EMD FT A+B; Boston-Maine
1 microtrains EMD FT A+B; Reading RR
1 intermountain EMD FP7 A ; Ontario Northland
1 atlas EMD E7 A ; Southern Pacific
1 atlas EMD E8 A ; SF Warbonnet, non-operational (seized crankshaft))
1 atlas Fairbanks-Morse C-Liner; Milwaukee Rd, non-operational (flat spots)
2 atlas Dash 8-40B ; BNSF
1 atlas SD70MAC ; BNSF
1 kato AC4400CW ; Union Pacific
1 kato ES44AC GEVO ; Union Pacific

I hope these are of "a certain brand".
