HO Amtrak GE Genesis P-42s

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Besides brass, no one. Walthers currently owns exclusive licensing rights in the USA with Amtrak to the Phase V paint scheme for locomotives. Thats why Atlas's Phase V AEM-7s lack the logo, and the Bachmann offerings all say Acela. (which isn't entirely the only reason why. A while back, Amtrak attemped to rebrand everything in the Northeast as Acela. When David Gunn took over Amtrak, he quickly scrapped that idea, so now except for the Acela express, nothing is branded Acela anymore. However, there are some Amfleets still in the Phase V scheme still running around, and Bachmann makes them in HO scale)

Since Athearn is the only manufacturer making P42s in HO scale, Athearn makes the Phase V engines for Walthers (hence the Athearn Collectables box)

Gotcha...Thanks for all the info. I'll have to keep searching for Walthers then...couple of places say they have it in stock but I want to confirm this before placing my order online.

Thanks again!

walters by athearn ? isnt athearn property of horizon hobby ?
Im lost, who owns who ?

Horizon ownes athearn and Walthers pay Athearn for use of the p42 dat is why Walthers' version of the P42 is a downgrade of Athearn's model

No, not true. Walthers and Athearn are seperate companies. Athearn is owned by Horizon Hobby.

The "Made for Walthers by Athearn" is NOT a downgrade. It is still the same good retooled model that Athearn makes in the RTR line. See-thru etched metal fan, headlight bulbs, glazing for the ditch and marker lights should you ever decide to install bulbs behind them, DCC Quick-plug, etc.

Contact Josh, from Maders Trains. He has had a P42 in the Phase V paint for me for a while that I have not been able to pay for. If you want to buy that one send him an email and he'll probably let you purchase it.
