A better view of the switching operations from the cab. Most switchers have taller cabs than the hoods. ;)
 
Gensets have a 360 degree view (or so NRE claims) so that the engineer can see what he's doing at all times.

Some roads have opted for a lower cab due to clearances. (none of which have been made in HO scale)
 


Because although the engines are smaller, the drivers are still the same size, so you can't shrink the cab down from being the same size as a normal engine.

That would be discrimination against vertically challenged persons. :rolleyes: :D

I can just see it now. A sign on the loco: "You must be at least this tall to go on this ride."

Funny you say that about the sign. My coworkers know how big a railfan I am and how I have tried to hire on. They posted a sign at my dispatch console saying "you must be this tall (with a line) to drive a train. Needless to say this was posted at a spot on the wall higher then I am tall.
