I'd like to buy an ES44AC. I know Athearn has this model, but does Athearn ES44AC have operating ditch lights?
Athearn did not make an ES44AC. Only Intermountain and Tower 55 (Overland) made them in HO.

I believe the Tower 55 dies were sold to Athearn.
I believe they were as well, but someone who I know owns both the Intermountain and Tower 55 model said that both engines are nearly identical down to the shell mounts. Either Athearn sold them to Intermountain, or Intermountain made a very good clone. I think it's the second one because Intermountain claimed that it was all new tooling when they first announced it.
If ya search On the Athearn Facebook page you will see that they still have the ES44s in the works.
I think Athearn is just trying to adapt the tooling to their drive system since Athearn likes to standardize even when buying out tooling from other companies.
how long is it going to take to do that? Didn't they buy the tooling almost 3 years ago?
They probably want to wait until Intermountain slows down with their releases.

Saw the DCs are supposed to be out this month (Dec now). 2 of the roadnames (BNSF new image and GE Demo) are listed on the IM website as having a start shipping date of Dec 12. Hopefully we'll see them soon. Hate to see my Jan CC bill.
IMHO, Athearn would be hard pressed to do a better job than IM with the GEVO. Soundtraxx Tsunami, LEDs, very nice detail, smooth drive, and sturdier handrails. My only negative feedback would be the ditch light intensity was somewhat weak on the first run of ES44ACs. Other than that and the time it has taken to get these, I give them two big thumbs up.

I would love it that if Athearn Did the late style ES44ACs in the first run with some KCS.
i had posted on athearns facebook but haven't gotten an answer from them.
