That's why trains are made of heavy metal.

(Of course that's just my humble opinion.....eek!)

Well today I paid for an anniversary boxcar I won in an auction last month, bought an Athearn UP GP50, a Silver Streak DVD (1934 version) and I bought another A2M0003 Disk II disk drive for the Apple IIe. If this one works as good as advertised I'll use it. If not I'll strip it for parts to use repair a couple of other A2M0003 drives I have. I also paid my bills and had my father drop a payment at the loan company so they'll be happy for another month.

The weather here isn't looking all that great. We got a bunch of stuff moving north and a lot more coming in off the gulf. It's quiet right now but thunder-boomers have been moving through most of the day and it doesn't look like they'll be stopping before morning. So with that I'll be calling it a night.

Good evening y'all,

Figured I ought to make an appearance since I haven't been here in a few days.

Jeffrey - glad things are working out with your knee, and that they found the missing prescription.

Tomorrow it's my turn to visit the doctor - an ear/nose/throat specialist to be exact. He going to blast the wax out of my ears with a fire hose...well maybe not a fire hose, but it sure hurts like h***. I'm both apprehensive and cynical about it: He says that I need to get this done every 6 months, because I'm one of that 1% of the population whose ear canal doesn't slope straight downward, but is like an inverted 'V'; instead of falling completely out, half of the wax my ear generates falls back inward onto the eardrum. When this guy worked on me back in March, I hadn't had this procedure done in over 25 years. [That's probably why the treatment was so painful.] But every six months!? C'mon, that seems like overkill! Sure wish I could get a second opinion, but it seems like all the ENT docs in my area work for this one mega-practice that dominates the region - can't expect much objectivity from them!

As of yesterday I have an Athearn GP50 making it's way here through the postal system. That'll give me something new to work on. I have some passenger cars I can work on but I want to wait until I can get the proper parts for them. I've done about as much as I can with the F3's short of painting and converting to DCC.

lraK...remember my lovely wife and her cluttering up MY recording space with HER stuff? Even after we 'discussed' this thing? I still had to move her stuff out of there...twice now.

It's going to be a nice day here in Southern California. I think I will try and re-claim my working area in the garage.
Need to start another project for HER!

I have been enjoying the beautiful fall weather we're having of late. Plus the NHL season opened yesterday, and I watched portions of all three games, plus the last couple of innings of the Baseball playoff in Pittsburgh. Lots of distractions from model railroading, eh?

Ken,

I too used to have to have this done 2x a year. My problem wasn't wax, but a fungus. Back then it was the only way to remove it as there weren't any fungicides for the ears. It did eventually damage my hearing, and back during the military draft made me 4F as I could hear well enough to pass the hearing test.

But as to the pain, it shouldn't hurt now that the 25 yrs of build up is gone. I would do some research on some of the powered ear wax cleaners out there. They do have some items that can and will dissolve the wax, and then you can suck it out with the ear vac that's part of the kit. These items are all over the counter.

Well we've snagged two more mice with the snap traps and the cat nailed another one for three. So that's cat 2, snap traps 4, glue traps 0.

Didn't get anything done trainwise today. I have an appointment in the morning at the prosthetic clinic in DeRidder to see about getting the whatever it is that's supposed to reshape the stump of my leg so that it's more prosthesis friendly. That should just about do away with the morning.

I want to get some TV time in tonight so I'm calling it a night. See y'all sometime tomorrow.

It's sometimes hard to believe this is Bachmann EZ-Track.

Evenin' gang!

My appt with the ENT doc didn't turn out so bad after all. He simply used what looked like a miniature shovel, stuck it in and scraped a teensy bit from each side. He says that if I come back to him every 6 months to have this done, it will never again reach the point of hardening and having to be 'blasted' out. Of course, Carey's approach would be more cost-effective in the long haul - if I had the self-discipline to remember to use the thing!

On the mrr front: My Keyspan USB-serial adapter is supposed to arrive at my doorstep tomorrow, according to the vendor's calculations. Only problem is, all I got back from them so far is a confirmation email - nothing that says my order has actually been shipped. Hope they didn't just take my CC# and forget about it.

Made it to my appointment this morning and got a prosthetic sock that will shrink the stump down to an acceptable size. I go back to see them again on the 31st. I told the nurse I'll have to remember to bring my mask and bag. It took her a few seconds but she got it. Halloween. Everything went well this morning until we got back home. By that time I was very tired. Not much sleep last night and using that walker gives a heck of an upper body workout. The last hurdle before getting into the house was the step at the door. It's only three or four inches high but that was high enough for me to trip on when I tried hopping up it. I hung onto the walker and used it for support so I didn't fall over but that didn't prevent me from going to my knees. From there it was a short trip on my hands and knees to my power chair. From there it was an easy matter to get up onto the seat. If that's the worst my day gets I'll be happy.

We scored another mouse! That's five for the snap traps, two for the cat and zero for the sticky traps.
