Hello All
I just picked up an Athearn Genesis SD60i today It's the just released version and it's my first Athearn.
The documentation that comes with it is incomplete and there is nothing on their website that I can find. Question. What sound decoder is used on these engines and where can I find better info on the CV's. For instance one of the CV's that is referred to but with no informationis CV 118(headlight function) is referred to in the fold up pamphlet but the CV chart has no mention of it.

Thanks

I think you'll have to contact Athearn directly for more information since I can't find a review or anything but the barest details for this model. It sounds like an QSI decoder because it has both DC and DCC sound control. That's just a guess though. The techs at Athearn should be able to help you out. Athearn is really bad about getting technical data out for their models until months after they've been released.

Did you get the NS version!? Seems Athearn is recalling the NS version for a screwed up pant job, the nose stripe on the engineer's side angles the wrong way, and the rear end stripe is missing the angle...

In the past, Athearn has use MRC sound decoders. I wish they would switch to QSI, but I don't think they did. Good luck changing the CV's...

The model itself is excellent! I've got two and put a QSI Revolution sound decoder in one of them.

Fred, this one has both DC and DCC sound modes, with the DC sounds being able to be controlled by the power pack. I'm not aware of MRC making any such system and thought that QSI held some kind of patent on the dual sound system decoder.

I think it is an MRC. I can check the manufacturer ID CV to verify.
The unit does come with a small remote control to run sound on DC systems. You place the antenna near or on the tracks to make it work according to the instructions.

Thats an MRC then. Throw it and go with a Tsunami. They, and LokSound are the only ones with appropriate 710 sounds.

I'll wait for the new Tsunami for Genesis to come out which should be any day now. I was told it was delayed but will ship from the factory by next week.

Athearn is recalling the SD60Ms. The decoders are MRC although they are considering changing to soundtraxx since they have received many complaints about the quality of the MRC decoders.

The NS recall was based upon the stripes, look on the Atlas forum's, there's pictures... I know there's word going around on the Soundtraxx, don't think there's anyone discussing a recall for that matter yet...
