Good morning. It's 59° and decidedly wet! It rained nearly all night. The high will be 72° with a 50% chance of rain.

No plans today. I'll get some layout work done IF there's time for it. Seems like any time I make plans for it everybody shows up wanting something or needs me to go do something. This morning I took a step toward making my parents little video camera easier for them to use. It's one of those little things that has to be plugged into a USB port to recharge and naturally there was no AC recharger supplied with it. This morning I ordered an AC wall wart that was made for recharging such devices. Just plug in the wall wart then plug the devices USB cable into it. My parents know very little about computers and even lees about USB ports or where to find them. Their computer has six of them, all on the back. The charger I ordered is a Cables Unlimited Zip-Linq AC wall plug to 5V USB adapter. It's made to recharge MP3 players, cell phones, etc and works with any type USB cable. Best of all it cost only $10.

Good Morning,
It was Very Cold last night, around midnight everything had frosted ice on it and this morning was no different. It now almost 10:00Am and still the temp is about 26* outside.
Sounds like a good time to join the Hobo's around their camp fire!

I pulled out the 6 or more spikes I had put in at the beginning of the ramp leading up to the Serpha Copper & Iron Works so I can use the new cordless Dremel with a wire wheel to distress the ties rather than using a wire brush to scrub them with as I use to. The new Dremel runs at a very slow speed too so it makes it nice to do things like this. Then I'll get the ties stained and get the code 55 rail spiked down. Fortunately I leave an oil heater going in the finished garage so it doesn't get too cold in there.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Hi All!

Well still sitting with my Dad in the hospital 300 miles from my layout. So no trains. Have managed to sneak out long enough to get some good BBQ last night and some good swordfish for lunch today. Dad will still be in the hospital for a few more days.

He refuses to talk about any other possiblities other than going home to live alone. I have had 4 of his friends tell me he isn't capable of living alone which we suspected. The next few days are not going to be much fun, but with his Parkinson's we don't have much choice but to try and change his mind.

Glenn

Glenn;

Hang in there chief! We went thru this same thing with Pam's Dad. We finally convinced him that it was best for him and us. We did get him into a home here and saw him several times a week until he passed two years ago.

If you're still in the area, give me a call if you get a chance.

Say Glenn,
This individual below may be able to direct you to supplaments that might help your Dad?

MD Douglas, who writes a health article via email, you might want to try and ask him if there is something you can give your dad to help him out?

Hope this helps, it hell to loose your independence.

Had some things to do this morning, none of them related to the layout then my father came by and picked me up to go with him to a boat repair place out near Toledo Bend on the other side of Toro. We had to take some parts out there and check on the progress of his boat as well. It's a 1971 Lone Star 16' V-bottom double hull ski boat. Right now it's basically just a hull with the deck and control station. It originally had an Evinrude 75 on it but that locked up long ago from lack of use. He's having an Evinrude 90 rebuilt for it. The mechanic working on it was preparing to set the timing on it when we got there. The boat still needs gas tanks, steering cables, electrical work, seats, motor control, etc, etc, etc. It was after 2 pm when we got back so we heated the last of the General Sherman's stew my mother had cooked up earlier in the week. Good stuff but man the tomatoes are working on me. I like them but they don't like me. I used to be able to eat them if they were cooked but not any more. My reaction to them has gotten worse in recent months and it's looking like I'll have to put them on my do-not-eat list right up there with bananas, cherries and avocados. I finally got home around 4 pm. Just finished getting a Life-Like coal tipple boxed up for a friend of mine and it looks like that will be the last thing I'll be doing today.

Since Jeffrey happened to mention boats, it got me to thinking,
Has anybody heard from Bob lately, or as I like to call him, boB?

Good morning all from Ye Olde London Towne.

Last day of the year. Amen! A cool 5c (41f) today. A relief after the coldest December the UK has had in over 100 years. A quiet night at home with some nibblies and a few bottles of rare and interesting (read evil strong) beers is the NYE plan.

So I raise a glass to the great and good of Flo's Coffee shop and offer a toast. May your new year be greeted with health, comfort, and happiness. Happy New Year to all.

Good morning. It's 69° and cloudy. The high will be around 71° and there's a 60% chance of strong thunderstorms.

I spent some time this morning working on this old trainset gondola. I can't find a manufacturers name on it but I suspect that it was made by AHM or Life-Like.

The work involved getting it properly weighted without the weight showing and converting it from truck mounted couplers to body mounted couplers. It would have been far easier to just slip knuckle couplers into the truck mounted coupler boxes but where's the fun in that. I had to find something to use as a shim between the car body and the coupler boxes. A couple of Bachmann coupler pocket covers worked quite well for this. So after some grinding work with the Dremel and the application of some super glue (got more on my fingers than I did on the car) I got the coupler boxes mounted. After the glue was dry I installed a knuckle coupler in each box and put on the cover and secured each cover with a couple of drops of super glue being careful not to get it in the coupler boxes. After nearly thirty minutes of work I rechecked the coupler height just to be sure. It's right on the mark. The car body has a tendency to rock, a typical problem with snap in trucks. Maybe someday I'll convert it to screw mounted trucks but I can safely say that it won't be THIS year.

Morning Gents,

Hope everyone enjoys their last day of 2010. Where did it go?

Not much planned today. Ill be going to the hockey game tonight, then heading up to Plattsburgh tommorow.

Anybody know when Athearn is releasing the SP and DRGW Heritage units?

Have a good one!

Good morning everyone.

I'm at work for a while, then off to my sister in law's house for New years. Well, that's only if we don't get too much freezing rain and snow. Man I'm sick of the weather happening on the weekends. Couldn't it be crappy on Tuesday, or Wednesday?:)

I wish you all good health and happiness in the new year. Happy New Years!

I wish you all good health and happiness in the new year. Happy New Years!

I have to crawl around on the ground at work, so I'm just as glad the bad stuff happens when I don't have to be out in it.
Likewise, everybody have a safe new years, and watch out for the "non-professional drinkers" if you're going to be on the road tonight. I'm keeping my butt at home where the risk of an alcohol-related accident will be limited to a mess on the floor from spilling a drink...

Anybody doing any partying tonight? I wish I could join ya, but my wife nixed the rum daiquiris. I was even going to stay home and drink, but she says no. Well, here goes another boring night. lol I love her anyways so it really doesn't matter. Happy new years everybody!

Good Morning - almost Noon,
No matter when I intend to get the morning message sent it seem it's always around this time before it happens.

Anyway, it was a very cold, at least for this part of the woods, 26* and hasn't warmed up much but at least the Sun is out.

I didn't get anything done on my layout yesterday but sure plan to today.

Everyone have a good and safe New Years evening!

Paid some bills online this morning (those that could be) then went to town and paid a couple more. Went by the New Llano post office to send off some packages then went to Wal-Mart to get some grocery shopping and get some gauze pads and bandages for my ankle and two bottles of 91% alcohol for the paint stripping tray outside. Also picked up a bottle of cheap Boone's Farm strawberry daiquiri for tonight. Upon coming out of Wal-Mart I went to where my van was parked to find a small car (I've seen Yugos that were bigger) parked close beside it on the right side on MY side of the yellow line. Guess what side the cargo doors are on?I could maneuver the shopping cart between the two vehicles and I could get the forward most cargo door open easily. The carts handle however was going to catch on the side view mirror of the little car so I left it where it was. It just meant a couple of steps either way. So I started loading my stuff into the van when lo and behold the owner of the little car appears from around the back of the van with a phone on her ear and the first thing I hear from her is a scream "AAgghh! You're going to rip my mirror off!!". Then she yells to the person on the phone that this big guy in a huge van (I guess to her it was huge as it looked like the Titanic sitting next to the Carpathia) was going to back out and rip the side off her car. I just calmly pushed the cart out of the way and let her get to her car but not before she hurled a few insults about big Indians who don't know how to drive. Who was illegally parked here? I do believe it was her since her car was sitting OVER the parking area divider. I didn't say a word or do anything. I just stood there and let her get in her car while she continued to come up with more uncomplimentary things to say. By now I was royally ticked off but I didn't say a word or even look at her when what I really wanted to do was to fold that car up like a sandwich and feed it to her. She started her little car and backed out without even looking to see if anything or anyone was behind her (a big Dodge dually bigger than my van, and she almost nailed it) then took off like it was the Indy 500 time trials. Didn't she say I was the bad driver for being LEGALLY parked? She needs her license yanked! Funny thing though, the driver of the Dodge dually is a reserve cop. He called her plate in after he pulled into the spot she had just vacated. I chuckled all the way home!

I just stopped in long enough to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
We have out-of-town relatives to entertain for another couple days, so I wanted to extend my best wishes to y'all!

:DAhh, the last day of the year. Started inside, glued some more foam to one of the show modules under construction. It was nice enough outside (47F), got the truck and both the cars washed, after clearing the gutters of leaves. Wife got a new smoothie machine from her Mom at Christmas, so off to the liquor store we went for some Captain Morgans spiced rum. Now we just have to decide if we want pina coladas, strawberry or peach daquiris tonight.

I want to wish you all a Happy New Year now, cuz if I try it later all you may see is bghrtyu45678, which is just the impression my face makes on the keyboard!!:D
Not to mention the misspellings get really bad when I'm tipsy!:p
