Interesting scenario there----I'd like to know what happened there
we got all the trimming, weeding, refinishing and cleaning done. Now we are getting stuff ready for tonights fireworks display. There are already people getting ready up at the sports field behind us
oh well. got the last fireworks done last night without a hitch. a t'underboomer showed up and monsooneded on us and there was NO mention of anything until AFTER the thing showed up and did the monsoon thing. What they said was----a 20% chance of a shower.
It's 74 and partly cloudy. The high will be in the upper 80's and there's a chance of thunderstorms.
We had a somewhat violent storm blow through last night. Not sure if it had any rain with it but there was a lot of wind. There was plenty of stuff hitting my trailer around midnight and the power went out several times. I just looked outside and I saw the cans of spray paint that are usually neatly arranged on the old gas grill that serves as my painting bench are all over the yard. I also saw a couple of branches down. I'll take a better look around later when I go out to assess any damages. If I have the time today I'll cut the M.T. Arms Hotel in half. One of my jobs yesterday was to move a large picnic table from one side of my parents yard to the other. Doesn't sound like a big job until you consider it had to be moved more than 200 feet and weighs a couple of hundred pounds. My father had been thinking about the two of us manhandling it across the property. I let him know real quick I wasn't going to do that. I took the easy way out and looped a rope around the bench supports and dragged it with the tractor. Hardest thing was untying the rope and that was drop dead easy. As dry and hard as the yard was I couldn't even see where I'd dragged the table.

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend. I know I did! Not only did I get to do the lake thing, but I was a model building machine last night. I got the silos completely assembled as well as the head house. While that glue was drying, I started the painting process for my DPM hotel. I'm using the same one as Jeffrey, only I'll be using two kits to make a square hotel.
The highlight of last night was letting my nephew run the trains. My brother called on his way home from out of town to ask if his son could stop and use our bathroom. I guess the last fifteen minutes was just too long to wait for the little guy. I said sure, then you can see what I'm up to in the train room. Apparently, Noah is obsessed with trains already. Seeing the layout darn near gave him a heart attack! Being five years old, he immediately felt the need to touch everything. My brother was quick on the draw to fend off any damage! Unfortunately, my sister in law was in a hurry to get home so he could only watch the trains for a few minutes. They will have to come over for dinner one of these days and really 'play with trains'! The circle off life continues, since it was our uncle that introduced me and my brother to trains twenty five years ago. I fact, I'm using some of that very same equipment now.
I have a long and boring day ahead of me. I get to come up with BS answers to questions that have no answers today. Questions from the boss such as, 'how do we increase business?" I hope you all have a great day!
I picked up two more DPM kits today. The Other Corner Cafe (#11500) an d a freight depot (#10700). At least one of these will be cut in half to make to make two background structures.
First day back to work from vacation! Holly crap I had a lot of catching up to do....LOL's They hand out the time line for the layoffs and it will be Sept. 26, 2009 They said my department will loose 1/3 of the staff which 1/3 depends on points and how many supervisors getting bumped down want my job. They are going on a points system which really doesn't mean much but as points go 15 is the max you can have I got 8! would have had 11 but damn accedent with the truck two years ago will put an end to the eleven points! Only thing that might save my job is my work ethic....But brown noses and supervisors seem to beat out us workers out, you know how that goes. well enough of that depressing talk how was your day
A very busy day today. Took the mower deck off the Kubota, Hooked up the 3 Point Tiller and tilled the front yard where the new sidewalk is going in and then got the 3 point blade attached. Moved a lot of stone and gravel in the driveway where the sidewalk will run out to the road. Moved 15 to 20 wheelbarrows of dirt from the front of the house. Sure am glad I put that tarp down for the dirt to go on. Makes cleaning up after I am finished much easier for sure. I got a couple of estimates for all of this concrete work and they ranged from $1,700 to $3,100 for 5 yards of concrete. I think I will have a little over $700 and a very tired back and legs and great satisfaction..
Also received my CEE Line RailRoad Business cards today and my two CEE Line T-shirts. A copy of the card is below. 250 free cards and the shirts were not very expensive either. I think I only paid a little over $20 including shipping for everything. Glendia asked me WHY I needed business cards for a model RailRoad and I said because I can.
Went all over the place today---a packed day for work and a lot of touring around---think I found a wack more industrial archeological sites to photograph----sheesh!
Well, I'm going to put some stuff I got today into the basement----
It's 76 and cloudy. The high will be around 90 and there's a chance of thunderstorms.
I have a problem today. Seems to be something we all have a problem with once a year. It's my birthday. Something else that's happening today is my mother is coming home from the hospital. So for the past two days my sister and my niece have given the gardens and planters a good going over and they cleared half the stuff out of the enclosed patio area and stacked most of it by the roadside for collection. I helped with moving some of the heavier items and with getting rid of a quite large wasp nest. Afterwards I came home and cut the M.T. Arms Hotel in half. Now I can use the halves as backdrop fronts. I also got started on another DPM structure, the Other Corner Cafe. I'm not sure yet what I'll do with it.

It has been a good and bad few days. On the good side we had a great day trip to Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware on Friday. We a good time on the beach and did not have any issues with bratty kids or twenty something jerks running wild on the beach. On Saturday we spent part of the day at a local pool club and later caught some fireworks. On Sunday we bought some new blinds for the living room to replace the crappy “custom” blind we got a few years ago. The “custom” blinds have given us nothing but problems since I put them up. I got one of the new blinds installed.
The bad stuff was I got sick. I came down with body aches and a cough on Sunday night. Yesterday morning I felt too weak to even drive to work. I spent most of the day in bed. Today I feel stronger. I still have a little bit of cough but nowhere near as bad as yesterday. Lastly I did not get any train time.
Tonight is flute lesson for my daughter and hopefully blinds installation.
There must be stimulus money being handed out in Mankato, there is a Mill and a Hotel being built simultaneously. I almost feel like the paint and glue can't dry fast enough so I'm building two at a time. It sure is fun to see another section of the layout start to come to life. My wife thinks I'm working faster now. She doesn't realize how fast a building kit goes up compared to building at trestle stick by stick.
I have a few family obligations to take care of this morning. Then I hope to resume building my hotel. I sure could get a lot more done if I worked two days a week and had five off! Of course, then I would have no money to do the things I want to do.
I just got the best indication there is that rain is coming. The parish just graded the road. Usually when that happens a heavy rain or two follows within a week.
