I just got done spending 3 hrs on the display layout. Now I have to wait for glue to dry and wallet fire to burn it self out before moving on!:p I'll post pic's soon:) in my album!

Afternoon, everyone.

Sandy, it has been a rather strange month in Colorado. Tornados are usually confined to the plains east of Denver but there has been a persistent low just off California that has been pumping moisture up into the Great Basin and Colorado. It looks like that's just about at an end so things should heat up fast for you. I've always loved storms and spent a summer doing storm chasing. If I ever could have figured out all the math, I would have gotten my degree in meteorology.

Rex, we spent two weeks in Bangkok and that was enough for me. Between the traffic and the heat, it's a really tough place to be, although the temples are amazing. Your comment about A/C is interesting. When I used to sail the Caribbean, the first week was always miserable with all the heat and humidity. The second week was bearable, and the third week was fine. I think our bodies do adapt to heat if given the chance but, with all the A/C today, all we do is run through the heat to get to the next cool place. I can't believe they can squeeze 10,000 more seats in Bryant-Denny field. We were crushed when we were there last year and I can't see where they could jam in any more seats. I guess I'm fairly lucky with my Meniere's. I'm almost totally deaf in the left ear but rarely have any tinnitus. I know that some people have it bad and it really drives them nuts.

Andrew, sorry to hear about your neck. I'll be interested to see how your JITB model comes out. I've looked at the ads for those Summit Model kits and they look nice although they do seem to be really expensive.

Jeffrey, I'm glad to hear your mother is fighting physical therapy. That's a sign she's getting better. No one likes physical therapy but really sick people just let the PT's drag them up and down the hallway. Sounds like real fun working on that mower. That's why I pay a guy to cut my lawn. I wouldn't be able to fix those huge mowers if my life depended on it. :D

Corey, sounds like a really cool version of a monster truck rally. See, it's not so bad having your wife home, is it? Assuming you have a good relationship, it will get even better. I think a lot of guys forget that women seem to naturally engage in artistic work like painting, gardening, and knitting. If you think about it, it's not a great leap for them to do scenery on a layout if you can get them interested. Making trees together is a good start. Dianna's sole contribution to the layout is rearranging vehicles when they don't look "right". I haven't figured out what "right" is yet.

Chris, sounds like you're moving right along on the display layout. I can smell the wallet smoke up here...or maybe it's the paper mill. ;)

Got the two new laptops yesterday and spent most of the day stripping all the extra junk off it like Norton 360, Office demos, Lord only knows how many games, and assorted internet junk. I installed Office XP and AVG 8.5, got connected to the net and, so far, so good. Next step is to transfer all the data and settings and then reinstall the rest of my settings. It sure would be nice if there was an easier way to do all this.

It's really a scorcher here in Dixieland today. It's presently 102 with a heat index of 109. Only went down to 77 last night and it was already 90 by 8:00. So much for getting up on the RV roof today. Doesn't look like any chance of a break until at least Sunday. I'm sure glad we a got a little rain over the weekend or it would be even worse.

well got some trains running again:)

Tomarrow we're loading up in the family car and going to spend a day at Adventure Island (water park). I should be one tired puppy tomarrow evening!

Evening guys
Damp & Rainy all day here, about 60 degrees. What a nice day to put brakes on my car. Thank goodness it was in the garage! I am however succombing to age. My ankles and knees hate me right now from all the bending, stooping and kneeling on the concrete floor. The job itself wasn't all that bad, just the physical aftermath.
Jim, I feel as old as you right now. I was going to go to Howard Zane's tonight to play trains, but scratch that. I just want to veg.
Corey Its cool having the wife involved. Mine will sew skirts for the modules, and help out at shows, but thats about it.
Chris Don't drown yourself tomorrow! And wear mirrored sunglasses. With all those bikini's around, you have to think of them as safety glasses..............don't ask me how I know this!;)
Jeff Glad to hear Mom's doing better. Poor physical therapists!! LOL!!!
Jim & Rex Keep the heat down there will ya. If I'm cool, I can put on a jacket, if I'm hot, either the electric company can afford a new truck OR I run around naked!
Sandy About the Colorado tornados. I think Al Gore put them there.;)
Time to see if the wife is going to feed me tonight. She had no dinner planned, thinking we were going out to play trains. Hmmm,, where did I put Dominos phone number????

Theres a mental image I didn't need!
I agree with you on that one!!:eek::eek:

-------------------------------------

Had to dodge those t'underin' boomers again----gave us more monsoons---don't you just love all this rain?:rolleyes:---one thing I need to remember---get cover for BBQ----eeerrgh:(

Got some work done on some tracks---now to see whether they'll take to being used----

Theres a mental image I didn't need!

Tell me about it:( That is a mental assult and abuse if I ever have seen it.......

BTW, I just got done making 11 BBB patties and they currently reside in the freezer soaking up the seasoning for sat. night! Might make a few more friday night? not sure yet?

I surprised myself and my grandson Colton today. I actually had trains running on three different routes today. This is the first time in about a year or more that trains have actually made it all the way around the layout. Colton was running from one chair to another to see them go by his position, it was really fun to watch him. Glendia thinks I may have created a monster, she says every time he comes over now we will have to run trains. Maybe this will be the impetus to get me working on the layout again but that also means I will be needing more money to finish converting more stuff to DCC. Automatic reversing modules, decoders and maybe even some tortoise machines. I guess I better start looking ofr another job cause ole Larry ain't gots no money to spend an much of anything.

Evening all. I've been away the past few days because I have no Internet access at work [they're fending off an attempted cyber-attack], and when I'm home I'm working on creating car cards and waybills for higher-quality op sessions. The cards are printed up but I'm stumped as to how or where to get the pockets to bolt onto the fascia to hold them (I started a separate thread about that BTW).

Larry - isn't it great to see trains finally running on your layout after a long hiatus? And planting the seed for another future mrr to "carry the torch", kudos for that!

Chris - glad to see your focusing on running some trains instaed of starting another DMSF!

Corey - count yer blessings, a wife like yours [interested in trains] is a rare treasure.

Jim - have fun with those new 'putors, let us know how the 64 Vista works out.

Karl - I'll be sure to have my A/C turned up full blast when you come to my next op session!

Rex - Sounds like your layout's really coming together now! I've got a bag full of signals already built, now I have to figure out how I'll wire them.

Jeff - looks like your mom is getting back to her normal self, LOL! I don't blame your dad one bit though - she has to be someplace where there are people around to help her.

BOC - I can relate, my track always seems to work perfectly until after I've laid the ballast!

Next step is to transfer all the data and settings and then reinstall the rest of my settings. It sure would be nice if there was an easier way to do all this.
This is for Vista 64:
Go to "start"

Choose "all programs"

Choose "accessories"

Choose "System Tools"

Choose "Windows Easy Transfer", and follow the prompts.

How about some simple boxes made of Styrene?? I'm sure you have plenty of that laying around!:)

Karl - I'll be sure to have my A/C turned up full blast when you come to my next op session!
And the Diet Coke on ice too please!!!:D

Evening, everyone.

Dan, that's a pretty powerful movie. Good job to get it done in 48 hours.

Chris, I was smart in the Bahamas. I let the family go to the water park and I stayed in the casino. They all had sunburns the next day and I won a few bucks. Much better deal. :)

Karl, it is tough to get old. I remember when 16 hour days were normal. Now I'm lucky to stay awake for 16 hours. I hate to think of what my electric bill is going to be this month. We have a heat pump and I have to get the house down to about 68 at night to keep it below 75 during the day because heat pumps are lousy at handling fast rising temperatures. Hey, if I didn't have two daughters at home, I'd run around the house naked too and jack that thermostat up a few degrees. :D

BOC, we'll take some of that rain. I'll even take your lake if you can figure out a shipping method. ;)

Chris, you sure those BBB's are on your diet plan?

Larry, glad you got the whole layout going again and had fun with your grandson. Sounds like he has all the makings of a real model railroader.

Ken, they're fending off a "cyber attack" by shutting off the internet? I thought that's what firewalls and stuff like that was for. I responded to your card holder question with a product that looks like it will work and is reasonably cheap.

Terry, I'm doing the "Easy Transfer" thing tomorrow. For some reason, the combination of the words "Windows" and Easy" make me queasy but we'll see how it goes. I did all the Windows updates (two hours), installed IE8 64 bit (2 hours), and cleaned out the rest of the preinstalled junk on the hard drive. Now to see how many problems I have with my non-64 bit programs when I start reinstalling them after the "Easy" transfer. If you never hear from me again, you'll know I had a total meltdown. :D

It's still a blistering 80 degrees here after an actual high of 102. We have floodlights outside the garage and there's at least one of every kind of stinging, biting, and irritating bug in North America out there. I have to fight my way to the garbage can with a broom. I need one of those mosquito net hats or something.

We'll be gone a few days. A niece is getting married up Chicago way tomorrow afternoon so we is off to PARTY. Seems all the weddings up that'a way are big to do's which me thinks is a big waste of money but will be a good time. Will get to see my youngest borther who is living in Japan and the brides aunts and uncles. Every time we get together I always have a great time and a lot of fun. A Friday wedding is about half the cost of the weekend variety so maybe there is not as much of a waste of money as could be. Hope y'all have a good weekend and see you the first of the week as I kind of doubt I will have computer access until then.

Chris, you sure those BBB's are on your diet plan?

I wear SPF 50+ sun screen, I love water parks:D

As Fer the BBB's the bun is the only problem:rolleyes: I plan on dieting extra the day before!:p I'll crawl through broken glass to have a BBB!

EWWWWWWW sick, another thought that needs to be harshly burned from my mind:eek::eek:

Good morning folks

It was 61 F and raining again as I headed out this morning. High today will be 76F with more rain. We have a good chance of rain through Sunday night. We are currently 3 inches over our normal June rainfall but we are still in deficient for the year. I am not sure how because it seems like it has been raining all Spring.

I visit the forum yesterday but did not get a chance to post. It seemed like every time I tried something came up. Overall yesterday was uneventful. My son’s baseball game was called off because of rain. The one event that did happen, is we found out my son will need braces. Given all the insurance paperwork and stuff it will most like be September before he gets them. I had to run my daughter out last night so she could pick-up a birthday gift for one of her friends who is having a party on Friday.

Tonight my daughter is supposed to have a softball game. Right now it does not look likely. I still need to get glue so I can finish the boxcar sitting on the workbench.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 73 and foggy. The high should be in the mid 90's and sunny. This is starting to sound like a flaky CD.

Hopefully the internet signal here will be better than it was yesterday. It was up and down all day, mostly down. I have an appointment with the foot doc this afternoon, otherwise the day is pretty much uncommitted. I may get in some layout work today. I spent part of yesterday waiting the AC guy to make his estimates at my sisters place. She has a 4 ton downdraft system and wants to upgrade to a 5 ton updraft system. Now she realizes that's going to require some structural changes and she's willing to pay for it, up to a point. If he starts bringing in a bunch of help ($65 per hour per tech, $25 per hour per helper times X number of techs/helpers) she'll toss him out. Same goes if he's making a mess of it. He should be fine with 2 helpers at the most and I don't see the need for more than one tech.
