And now, the illustrated version of BOC's trip home.............

Brought to you by the fine folks at Fly By Night Industries, makers of the Sledge-o-matic!

But, the fun was in getting home!:eek: Everyone was out, and of course two accidents on my route home led to an interesting tour of a section of town that is just covered in 4 way stops. These were done to discourage shortcuts through a residential neighbourhood that was quickly becoming a major thoroughfare for racing:eek:. Anyways, dingbats were out and about causing traffic jams as they were wandering around and not paying much attention to anyone/thing. Just as I was attempting to use a certain street to get back onto my way home some idiot had to get involved in a car chase with a police officer who almost lost his life as this goofball had rammed the policecar to get away from him!!:mad::mad: That cooked it for that neighbourhood as it became just jammed up with all manner of police----amazing how fast they are around here.:confused: Must've been alerted---so, 15 minutes later I find a street that got me back on to my route. Sheeesh What a day!:mad:

Glad you home OK buddy!

Where do you find these things!! LOL!!

Of course, I was trying to type this with a cat who was trying to headbutt me---he sometimes makes a better doorway than a window:D:D:D:D

In the control panel there is a section that'll let you make your XP compatible programs compatible with Vista. One goes to Control Panel then click Programs then go to Use An Older Program with this version of Windows. This may work----

I use a lot of 2003 Office stuff as well as three other programs that go back to Windows 2000 on this DELL with the 32bit Vista.

This program is not compatible with Windows 64 bit operating system. Please contact the program vendor for a version that is compatible with 64 bit operating systems. Windows Installer will now close
Can you tell I've seen that message once or twice?

Did you go through the Control Panel?---if so then how was the version you have installed?:cool:

Stupid thing was I never had any issue with this install as it was preinstalled from the get go:confused:----I've also done 3 clean installs of the 64 bit version and they don't seem to have issues----maybe there are buggy beta versions still out there---:eek:

Railroading Merit badge perhaps???;)

Not yet. It is one he plans on doing down the road. He is going to do the Reading Merit Badge and possibly the Scholarship Badge. With the reading he can kill two birds with one stone; his school summer reading and the merit badge requirements. The Scholarship badge is based on school work, report cars, etc.

Sounds like your daughter and her team must have played their hearts out. It's hard to be on a team which never wins but it sounds like she's giving it her best shot.

Last season she was on a team that won the championship and she could not stand playing. There was too much pressure, too much scheming, no teaching, just a win at all cost attitude. She was always finding reasons not to go. There were girls who just did not care. They were burnt out from playing on three and four teams. It was ugly. We had to put up with ruthless parents. Everything bad you hear about Little League. This is something that had been building for the last few years and came to a head last year.

We switched leagues and despite their losing record she is having fun. She is playing on a team with her friends. The coaches are not out to win at all costs. Everyone is just having fun. Even when they are getting beat they are walking off the field with a smile and laughing.

Back in April my son was asked to be part of commercial and photo shoot for Boy Scouts. Take a look at the kid who says “archery” at the 10 second mark.

I've have witnessed this myself in my park with the leauge in it and in other sports my Son has been involved in. Three words that should NEVER be used together IMO, "Organized Youth Sports!" Nothing Organized with it:mad: A DMSF is More organized and less stressful! Parents need to stay out of youth sports all together and let the kids JUST PLAY! Days of the Sand Lot are sadly over! And we really need to get back to those days JMO take it for what it's worth.....
I'm glad you found a better leauge that your happy with:) But eventually the same But's in your old leauge will filter over to your new leauge and it will start all over:( I've seen this over and over:rolleyes:.

That's the thing--It was not installed on my 64 bit system, I tried to install it, and got that message--almost 100 times (nearly 100 different programs). 64 bit doesn't play well with 32 and 16 bit programs.
And I tried autorun, through the control panel, running the program from the disc, even tried copying from the disc to the hard drive, and running it that way, no soap. Vista 64 would not allow me to install the programs in 32 bit compatability mode, and since it wouldn't install, I couldn't "dumb it down".

Evening, everyone.

BOC, your trip home sounds like Mt. Toad's Wild Ride (for those of us who remember the early Disneyland). I sure hope the officer is OK. Vehicle accidents are the number one killer of police officers. :( Phillip, nice job translating BOC's narrative. :)

Tom, I was a coach for a PAL team in the early 70's. Our main goal was good sportsmanship and good conduct. Winning was desirable but secondary. I went to one of our local little league games last year and thought I was watching a triple A game. They even had a pitching coach that was timing the kid's throws with a radar gun. Cripes, 11 year old kids expected to act like a semi-pro team. I agree with Chris about the idea of sandlot ball again. Some of the best times I had as a kid were pickup games at the local vacant lot/ballfield. Of course, you'd be arrested for trespassing if you tried to use a vacant lot for anything now. Being a kid just isn't a lot of fun any more.

Chris, sounds like the neighbor kid has a pretty good handle on your frustration tolerance threshold. One of the few things I enjoyed about working plainclothes was pulling up beside one of those mobile boomboxes. I'd ask politely if they'd mind turning down the radio. That usually bought forth a torrent of abuse. I'd then pull my badge from under my shirt and ask them if they'd really mind turning down that radio. That usually elicited a more favorable response. :D

Terry, your experiences with 64 bit Vista aren't unusual and has me a little worried about going from XP to 64 bit Vista. I hape most of my programs are either compatible or can be upgraded but I know some won't be able to run with 64 bits. I'm keeping my old XP laptop for some of those programs and to use for JMRI down in the layout room. I've been reading about Laplink's PC Relocator, which is supposed to transfer all your programs, data, preferences, and even your registry settings, all automatically. Anyone ever use this? I haven't had much luck with some of these types of programs in the past.

We went to an outdoor movie this evening that the city recreation department was putting on. Since it hasn't rained in two weeks, we had a severe thunderstorm warning right in the middle of it. The actual storm was no big deal but we all had to go home. We got about two lightning strikes and .10 inches of rain. Not exactly the storm of the century. At least the rain cooled things down some, with a temperature of 69 now, way better than the 79 degrees it was at the same time last night. I'm hoping we can get a few more storms going tomorrow. We'll see. Nothing looked very impressive on radar this morning but we managed squeeze out a few drops by evening so maybe we'll get a repeat tomorrow. I'll take anything I can get.

Got a couple of small yards to mow, and off to the train show in Largo I go!:D I haven't beeen there in ages and while I'm at it I might pop in to H&R trains for sticker shock:D:p or I might not:rolleyes: I get to Meet Jay and I'll take plenty of pictures:)

Now for our daily DMSF, the Government will now Regulate the tobbaco Industry to curb the smoking habit to lower insurance cost! GOOD? or BAD? idea:) Do you think Booze, bacon, and pretty woman will be next:eek::(.

Tom, I just had to replace the tires on my daughter's 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. Unfortunately, it has 50 series 16 inch tires. The BF Goodrich cheapies cost $700. They wanted $890 for Michelin's.

OUCH! My Alero takes the same, 225/50 x 16 inch tires, but I did some major shopping. Got a set of Bridgestones for about 100 bucks a copy. Still painful, considering the wife just got 4 new tires on he Geo, installed for $89.90

Oh well, time to go out in the garage and have a cigarette before the FDA makes them illegal.

Ahh, my favorite spot!

Good Morning---

We got some more clouds ag'in for our viewing pleasure. A little bit of sun was here for sunrise then the clouds showed up which will give us a few sunny periods. High today will be 23C while tonights low---under CLEAR skies will be 7C. tomorrow? Cloud right back up as soon as the sun rises and then we'll get a cloudy day with a 40% chance of showers and those t'undering boomers ag'in.:(

I just finished mowing our hiccup of a lawn----now it's off to deal with trimming a privet hedge----once all that is done I'll get to do some MR stuff--heeheehee:D:D:D

BNSF---I'm a little puzzled by that strangeness b/c the ones I put in had the dang things in it:confused:----OY talk about a messed up program in your case---if your going to use legacy programs then you might want to consider getting a used 'pooter and dedicate that to running them then----it might save the hassle -----:eek:

Jim--The officer is doing fine--neighbour was over at hospital b/c he nows the guys family---everybody is happy, he's getting out this week sometime.:):) It was definitely a weird day that's for sure. I'm thinking of a quieter route now:eek::rolleyes:

Good morning.

I went to see the foot doc yesterday. He took some X-rays from different angles. After they were developed we studied them together. On eof the large bones in the middle of my foot is pushed way down and is putting an extreme amount of pressure on the muscles beneath it, nearly enough to push through them. It's obvious that part of the bone will have to be removed before it rips through the bottom of the foot. The surgery will take place in about 6 to 8 weeks from now. When I went to start my car to return home it backfired through the throttlebody and was running quite badly. A quick check under the hood revealed that it had blown off the hose from the pcv valve. It was a simple matter to push it back into place. I also picked up a 5-pack of T-shirts and two new pairs of pants and a pack of socks. At least I can't claim that I have nothing to wear.

Yes, that's why we got the wee Netbook with XP on it. It has a 120 Gb hard drive, and a Gb of ram. While it's not a computational powerhouse, it's more than good enough to run almost every program. The tiny keyboard is an issue, if you ever see one of my posts spelled like the cat sat on the leyboard, you'll know I'm using the Netbook to post... BTW, they still custom-make laptops with XP pro on them. Dell sells them configured with XP on the hard drive, and an install disc with Vista on it, for whenever all the issues get straightened out. Not that they ever will.
I got the 64-bit version of Vista, and have an install disc for Windows 7 64 bit. Whenever I get brave, I'll wipe the hard drive, and install 7.

Happy Saturday Gang!

We finally got some rain late yesterday and what a deluge it was. It has been raining all morning, today. All this naturally ran the carpenters off from finishing up on my porch roof. Most of it is covered now and the painted steel roof panels has made a tremendous difference in the temperature on the porch. I would have done this myself, but the roof has a wicked valley on a small pitch...didn't want to blame myself for leaks;):D.

Have any of you received an email from MR magazine apologizing for an ad they sent out? They said it was a father and son walking the railroad tracks and it was inappropriate. I got an ad like that, but didn't see anything wrong with it.:confused:

Jim, I got some 17" Goodyear Eagles for our SSEi Bonneville for a little less than $800. BTW: You're going to get your butt shot messing with people like over at your neighbors. Be careful, you are now a Senior...you know!:p:D

Yes, I got both the original ad, as well as the apology from MR. I was surprised when I saw the ad, as the rail safety people try their best to keep people from walking on the tracks, yet here was an ad, from a railroad related publication, clearly showing a father and son, walking in the four foot, not a good idea.

Ron,
Ok, I understand now and agree if one really wants to get picky and assume they are walking a busy mainline. However, there is nothing finer than a walk down the tracks of an old siding or seldom used spur...and even more special with your son talking about railroads. This is probably the result of some of the more zealot members of their forum making an issue where one doesn't exist. :)

Hey guys, I managed to got to a train swapmeet and Suncoast MRR Club open house today:D I also Meet jayl1 too. Nice guy, hope the rest of ya get to meet him one day. I manage only to spend $30 on some cars. I posted pic's of them and some layout pic's too in the weekend pic's go see's;) I also manage when I came home to test out one of my new toys's:D I cooked some dead bird today and it was good.....:p:p:p:p My FIL want me to cook BBB on it next weekend! I don't see a problem with that idea either:D Pic's below of my twins!

The problem with Vista is that too many run it with insufficient RAM. It takes a minimum of 2g to run it effectively. All of my newer computers, the (2)desktops and the (4)lapppies(I have one on each of two my larger boats for navigation) run Vista Home Premium with no problems. Each has at least 4g of RAM.

The problem early on was that those that had to have the latest and greatest, purchased Vista and installed it on old hardware. It didn't work. And the mouths began to run, though uninformed and without rhyme or reason. The problem was with the equipment, not the program, not that there weren't some glitches. But they were not the scope that everyone let on.

I just installed Windows 7 a short time ago, and have gone back to Vista. My critique is not favorable, but I will give others time to figure out what is needed as far as hardware to run it.

Bob

Good evening---

We ended up doing the grocery thing today and ended up spending more money than needed. Oh well.

This evening is being spent looking for couplers that 'Spring' used for golf balls---:eek::eek:

I've been watching a series of comments developing over the MR ads. All I can say is this is what happens when marketing forgets editorial policy. Never mind what the picture was about---if one is going to talk about something not being right one needs to make sure everyone is on the same page:rolleyes::rolleyes:
As for the hoohaw over it-----oh well:eek::rolleyes::rolleyes: PANIC advertising----don't you just love it--:rolleyes:

Evening gang!
Flo, I could use a Rootbeer float right now,,,,,,still hot from this afternoon.
See a few weeks back my neighbor and I went on a tree trimming rampage, and I ended up with a pile of brush that was 15 x 40 and about 5 ft high. Well today was chipper day. An 8 am start time was delayed til 10:30 waiting on the chipper to be available, then 4 of us (Me, my neighbor, my 20 year old son [the Ox] and the wife all started feeding the chipper. I must say, the industrial chipper makes my 5 hp Yard Boss chipper look lile a paper shredder! Now I've got a pile of mulch about 5 ft high and 12 ft long! Lotsa mulch! Then we chipped my neighbors pile after a short break. I did manage to get the chipper back to the rental place before 4, but I was wiped out!
I'm going to let it set a few weeks before spreading it around the trees (using my neighbors Kubota with a bucket, no wheelbarrows!) but at least the mulch pile looks better than the brush pile out back!

Chris, the grills look nice! We'll take good care of them when you are out of town!:rolleyes:;)
Now for our daily DMSF, the Government will now Regulate the tobbaco Industry to curb the smoking habit to lower insurance cost! GOOD? or BAD? idea Do you think Booze, bacon, and pretty woman will be next.
Oh for chrissake, Maryland already has rediculous taxes on smokes (this in a state where tobacco was once used as currency!), I've given up the booze, bacon gives me indigestion, but pretty women? Now theres an issue I can get behind!! I mean, I'm all over it! I mean,,er, C,MON NOW! That ain't fair!!! A man's gotta have a hobby!!!!;)

Rex Glad to hear you and Jim got some rain. I would have sent you some of ours, but UPS & Fedex declined the pickup.

Jeffrey The foot thingy seems like it may be a bit painful, but if you get long term relief, go for it! Best of luck to ya for a speedy recovery!

Well, my butts draggin, off to the rack time!
