Evening, everyone.

Chris, don't know what the law is in Florida but most states and municipalities can nail you for operating an unlicensed business. I'd get a license just to protect you in case you have to prove need for a larger vehicle. That time is coming. Get those old BBQ's cleaned up and working good before you go on vacation, OK? No reason in particular but it might make it easier to cook for a larger crowd. :)

Sandy, I've seen that quote before. Can you imagine if Bush made the same statement? He's still be getting raked over the coals on the Tonight Show. I was looking at the radar tracks for those tornados. Pretty impressive for not being in Weld County, the home of all tornados in Colorado. I'm glad you're OK. Sounds like you must be pretty good at taking care of people. Not a bad career since there will be more and more of us old geezers that need to be looked after. :D

Karl, that would be Rex and his travel trailer. My RV, which is a baby at only 26 feet, gets about 12 mpg average, although I can get up to 16 mpg with a tailwind. So far, I haven't heard anything about BO coming after motorhomes but I'm sure they are on the list somewhere. We'll see what the "Cash for Clunkers" looks like after DiFi and her cronies get through working it over. I hope poor Midnight survived the storms without too much bloodshed. BTW, bringing donuts along when you're railfanning is always a good idea. I hate to contribute to the old stereotype of cops and donuts but I'd never turn one down, especially on graves.

Terry, indeed, a real terrorist doing intelligence gathering would be doing it from about a mile away using a high power spotting scope....or just Google Earth, for crying out loud.

BOC, I'll be interested to see how Canada hops on this bandwagon. Since, as far as I know, there are no actual Canadian auto companies, I think you'll be dragged along with us....if you know what's good for you.

Tony, the basic shape of the hills is pretty good. I use Sculptamold on top of the foam to fill in the seams and add texture. Wait until it's dry and then carve thing like creeks and valleys. Paint with your base color and then use diluted india ink washes to bring out the details. Once it's got ground cover and trees, it will look fine. As far as airport security, the flight to and from the Bahamas is the ninth time since 9/11 that I've gotten pepper spray aboard in my carry-on luggage. I'm not going to give away my technique but it fools the Thousands Standing Around every time. I really don't know why I shouldn't be allowed to fly with my weapon on domestic flights anyway. I took a three day course in California on how to shoot someone on an airliner and could carry on intrastate flights. One would think it would be in everyone's best interest to have as many armed, trained peace officers as possible on a flight.

Bob, sounds like you and me could have some fun together. :D Our "heavy" weapon was the H&K 416 carbine. Great gun for putting a lot of lead in one place fast. My favorite long gun is still the CZ 750 Tactical Sniper Rifle. Nothing beats a .308 round for accuracy and one shot kill power. Have you tried DRT ammo yet? Amazing stuff. There's no lead bullet, just a compressed powdered iron core. Perfect spin stability and kill shots at 1,000 yards have been recorded. Due to the massive expansion when the round hits an organic target, it will instantly kill the target with no follow up shots needed. I use it in my concealed carry weapon because it has no pass through or ricochet problems in close quarters. Hope your crew can work up a small layout for that boy. Seems like you guys are getting pretty well known now.

Still hotter than all get out here. It's 79 degrees right now after a high of 101. No sign of any real rain except for maybe a few pop-up thunderstorms in the north. It's be time to start hauling out the hoses tomorrow. :(

All, the work is done for hte night. No download problems or corrupted files....just a lot of them. Now the better half can work tomorrow.

Jim when I was in Nam, I used a 300 Win Mag. A good choice over the overrated .30-'06. I gained at least 200 yards and a few degrees of accuracy. It all counts when shooting "out there".

My favorite weapon is an HK91, a receiver gun. A .308 that is a sweetie. My most accurate rifle is a custom Remington 700 in .22-250. I can break candles at 500 yards with NO PROBLEM. A bit small for large targets but tough on groundhogs, coyotes, and prairie dogs. Being a sniper with a SOG group, I appreciate accuracy.

I've been an NRA instructor for 25 years. MY instructor carried a .45ACP. We had a lot of 9mm, .40 Glocks, .357's and other small bored weapons when I took my instructor's classes. I noticed my instructor carried a long slide Colt. I asked him why the gun was his choice instead of some other caliber. His reply, "It's the difference between a Ferrari and a freight train." I have never forgotten that. My choice of a PCW... a custom Gold Cup. I shoot Golden Sabres. I've seen the damage they can do. NASTY!! And they are VERY accurate in my gun and they feed cleanly. Some .45's are finicky, but my gun would fire a rock if you could get it in the magazine.

I've also got a "Street Sweeper". Talk about something nasty. Too bad you can't use one of those duck hunting. A full auto 12ga could be devastating. It's good for clearing brush, though. Don't ask how I know that to be true. But, there is still holes in the BIL's pole barn.

I've been to a couple of SOF conventions. There are some dudes there that I would be afraid to get angry. Some of them are just plain crazy. And the weapons there would amaze you.

Yeh, I don't know about the becoming popular, but I do wish I could do it for the kid. I made a couple of phone calls and it seems that the others may take up the flag. I told them that I would give a couple of finished modules, an engine or two, and some rolling stock. I just won't be around to help out. If they decide to take on the project, it will be nice. I don't think it will be the scale of the nursing home's layout though. I gave one of the guys the phone number to get in touch with the boy's parents. We'll see.

Maybe I should start a small layout business. Nah, then it would be a job. That would take all of the fun out of it.

And, Jim, I have a boat longer than your camper. A 32-foot Carver 3207. Nice boat. It's 19 years old now and I'm the second owner. Not good on gas, although I made some improvements that helped raise the economy. It still looks brand new. The previous owner and I were fishing buddies. He passed away and I got his boat. And no, I didn't throw him overboard and steal his boat. His wife just passed away last year. Such a sweet couple. And she made some wicked good sugar cream pies. Although I had to give those up after being diagnosed with diabetes. I still have the memories, though. Wicked good.

Jeff, I hope Mom is doing better. I've got a ton of hats if she needs one. Just let me know YOUR favorite RR. I should have a hat. She might not appreciate displaying your favorite flag, though. How about a pink Jimmy Johnson hat? Don't ask why I have that one. Long story.

And, yes, the ol' Cafe sure does seem busier these days. Maybe Flo can buy a new apron. The one she has been wearing is showing its age.

Well, way past my bed time. 'Night all.

Bob

WOW Got woke up this morning with a vey large clap of thunder at 4:43. A good bit of rain is now falling and the boomers keep on coming. I think we had the fourth wettest May in history this year and Jun maynot be far behind. At least I am able to mow between showers. It has been rain wait a day or two then mow and sometimes hurry up and finish cause rain is on the way. I guess that is better than the Bama Gang having the drought.

Well got those grills in yester day:D! I'm waiting on the concrete on one of them to set up, then I can pressure wash and paint them:). And hopefully I'l be making some BBB's:p Well if nothing pops up this evening I'll try to work on that small Display layout!:)

We dried out some this week:rolleyes: But my vacation starts next wednesday.........The weather will resume it;s normal pattern then:rolleyes::rolleyes::mad: Temps are 75* in the morning and 92* in the after noon. I don't know what we would do if it wern't fer the gulf sea breezes we get cooling things off:confused: well got to go to work...........

Myself, I like lighting wooden matches at 500 yards. Accuracy is foremost in my opinion. But, I guess if one puts enough lead into the air, he's bound to hit something. I adhere to the Carlos Hathcock philosophy, "One shot, one kill."
Personally myself I enjoy golf balls suspended from trees at 100 yards....a) thre really tough with a light breeze and b) I get a new one free everytime my FIL puts a slice in one of his!!!
You oughta see the carnage when a slug from a .45 hits one!!! LOL!

I don't know, this rain is getting rediculous! I've been cutting the lawn every 4 days now, this is cutting into my fishin time!!!

Mornin' guys, just stopped by before I start working for the day. At least I get to leave early today. My son is graduating from Paramedic school this evening. The wife and I are attending and then taking him out to eat. Should be a good time.

Bob; Congrats on the BL2, you've been waiting on one, that's cool you finally got one. I found two N scale Monon BL2's in a box of my dad's old stuff the other day. They are Lifelike, but they run pretty good, not too noisy for a couple of Lifelike engines.

Jim; I guess i will have to buy some Sculptamold and see what happens, thanks for the advice.:D

Terry; I suppose I could try putting a little peak on one side of the mountain. I give that a shot next time I get down to the basement, thanks...:D

We are supposed to have a lot of rain today, possibly some severe thunder storms. I guess you have to put up with it sometime or another.:(

Well it's off to work for me, most likely a busy day again. Plus I have to do some interviews for a new mechanic position, I hate doing interviews, but we could use a new mechanic to help out...

Talk to you guys later...:D

Good Morning----

Some more rain fell on to the overfed pond/lake. We are embedded in FOG now and we still seem to be seeing a little bit of sun before it all clouds back up and gives us some more rain. The temperatures have been sticking around 18C for the past # of days---with the lows going to the single digits sometimes---

The only gun I have is a 12ga. that is tucked away in its bag in a locked closet right now. I've used crossbows and compound bows deerhunting---does that count?:p:D:D--one arrow---down.:D:D

I'm heading off to office to finish the fiddlework that could not be completed because of office 'pooter issues----:(:(----this way I'll won't be doing this on Friday and be 3 days behind--:mad::mad:

You all have a good one---:D:D:D

Good morning.

It's 76 and partly cloudy. The high will be in the low 90's and it will be partly cloudy.

My nephew finally showed up Tuesday night (9pm) to pick up my old 27" TV. He's happy to have it and was absolutely amazed that it came with the original remote and manual. He thought it was going to be a walk in the park to get it out of my trailer and very quickly discovered why I told him to bring a friend. He got his hands under it and noticed his arms tried to get a few inches longer when he tried to lift it. But with him on one end and his friend on the other they got it out in a couple of minutes. It barely fit in the back of his car with the back seat down. I went to Wal-Mart that night and picked up my new 37" HD Vizio TV. I got it set up and completely programmed before 11pm and didn't read the manual until this morning. The picture was a little grainy at the outset but I quickly located the menu controls to adjust the sharpness and set it from 1080i to 480i for viewing standard channels. I have AV1 set for DVD viewing on normal zoom option 2. That's the 16:9 wide-screen that most DVD's are formatted for these days. AV2 is set to view from the VCR/SAT on normal/wide as I have the satellite patched through the VCR with AV cables. That's the normal 4:3 pan and scan screen that most of us grew up with. It's equivalent to a regular 30" screen and has a black bar on each side of the picture. So that's AV1 = DVD --> TV and AV2 = SAT --> VCR --> TV. My mother is doing fine. She's slowly regaining her strength. We don't have a definite time on when she'll be able to come home yet. My eye check yesterday went well. I got there early so there wasn't much of a line ahead of me and I was able to get in and out within two hours. It seemed as though somebody heard my plea for cloud cover as it was quite cloudy for the drive home instead of the sparse clouds the forecast had called for. My eyes are still a little sensitive today but they should be back to normal by tomorrow morning. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to mow the grass.

Good morning everyone. Just a quick drive-by, been busy as <expletive> over the past two days - both at the office AND at home. My life is starting to resemble that of Tom PM.

Jeff glad to hear your moms recovering, hope she can get out of there soon.

I'll post more later when I get caught-up on my ToDo's

BOC, one arrow and chase is more like it. I use pistols to hunt Bambi now. More challenging. I've got a Contender in .35 Remington and a newer Encore in a .30-'06. Talk about a handful, and LOUD!! I've also got a couple of .44 Mags that do the job. I bought a .454 Casul a few years ago to go bear hunting. Haven't had the oppertunity yet. Not a gun you want to take out shooting cans.

For home defense, I think that a scatter gun is a better choice. Just rack the 870 and the perp will usually run. Something about the sound of a the slide of a shotgun just takes the fight right out of most bad guys.

Bob

Afternoon, everyone

Jeffrey, glad to hear you mom is continuing to improve. I'm keeping her in my prayers. That TV set up sounds way too complicated for me to ever do successfully. Sounds like installing a decoder in an Athearn BB is easier. :)

Bob, I wouldn't say the 308 is overrated but I've heard the 300 Win Mag is a sweet round. My brother was a sniper in Vietnam and used a standard M-14 on a bipod with a starlight scope and match grade ammo. Most of the other snipers used the modified Remington bolt action 308's. He had the highest kill rate of any of them so he's a big believer in the M-14. Have you tried a .17 caliber weapon yet? I haven't had the chance but I hear they are fantastically accurate when using the DRT ammo. My first duty weapon was a Colt Python .357 with a six inch barrel. That was probably the best handgun I ever used in terms of accuracy. When we switched to semi's, I went to the 45ACP because it was the only semi with the stopping power of a .357. We got a new sheriff and he insisted we all had to use S&W 9mm's after the LA bank robber gunfight so we'd have ammo and magazine compatability. When the 40 cal became all the rage, we switched over to those. I still think a 40 cal is a step down from a 9mm with the right ammo and neither are as good as a 45. I was in a gun shop the other day and he had a pristine Colt Python that had only been test fired, with target grips and upgraded blade sights. It was exactly like my first weapon. It was tight and all the bluing was perfect. I was excited until I saw the price tag - $1300. He said it probably didn't matter much since he hasn't been able to get 357 ammo in three months. That Street Sweeper is a mean weapon although I have no idea how you'd ever handle a full auto version, which I hear exist. I still like my Remington 870 for home defense. Every bad guy knows the sound of a round being racked on one of those. :)

Larry, any time you want to send some of that rain our way, we'll take it. No rain again today but a few more clouds so we cooled off...all the way down to 97 for a high. :D

Kael, I never tried the golf ball target before but it sounds like a real challenge. In my younger and more foolish days, I did try out for the SWAT team. One of the requirements was a Coke can at 300 yards. The only way you scored was putting a round through the "O" in Coke. Needless to say, I wasn't selected.

Tony, congrats to your son on graduating. It's an honorable, if underpaid, profession. A little sculptamold and some ground cover will have those hills looking good in nothing flat.

BOC, I wouldn't like to be up against a really good crossbow expert using carbon bolts. Those things will go through body armour like a hot knife through butter. We had one of our deputies killed by a barricaded suspect using a crossbow. He never knew what hit him. :(

Was that Ken I just saw drive by?

Phillip, teenage boys are indeed good for grass cutting. Unfortunately, teenage girls do not buy the idea that grass cutting is just like a tanning bed but you get more exercise.

As I said, still hotter than blazes here. There are a few small storms north of us but we are in our perpetual dry slot. My water meter is currently spinning like crazy while I try to keep the lawn alive. I don't think I can get any stimulus money for lawn watering.

Larry, OK, glad you told me about the phone not working up there!! How do I get a hold of you once I get to Franklin??? Also, check your emails, I need an answer on that unit I asked about by tomorrow.

Jerome, Can't do any emails here where I'm staying. Only been able to contact you here on the forum. I think I gave you the phone number for the Hotel on my list. I'm staying at the Comfort Inn on the bypass just east of Franklin.
The phone #is 828-369-9200 & the address is;313 Cunningham Road Franklin, NC 28734. I told the front desk you will be calling.

It rained real hard here in NC last nite w/a real bad electrical storm for over an hour. Today it was a real nice 80* & the minute we got back to the hotel we got into a hellava bad storm that was about 4PM. Been raining ever since. Hope Jerome can make it up here saturday w/out any storms. The counties above me have had some bad hail & thunderbusters for about 3 days all day & nite. On a motorcycle it's rough.

Good evenink peoples---

Had one of those---slight chance of showers ---turn into an all day monsoonal affair. And yes, another t'undering boomer showed up and woke the office up.:eek: Got the stuff finished and now we have a small meeting to get through for our committee.

Jim I heard about one of those "Street Sweepers" --and a fully auto?--YEEKS:eek:---but what were they based on? As for me, a friend of mine trained me on using crossbow---we've gone hunting numerous times---always come back with venison---havn't missed once--:D:D:D

I'm going back into the trainroom to do some more coupler switchouts. Eventually they'll get done-----:D

Just tell them it's just a palates work out in the back yard. It's toning, tanning, and a few bucks in the pocket all in one!
