Yes, I did consider that. But ultimately I went with the flat table top method. It’s what I’ve done in the past. It was only 16 sheets of plywood.Hi rgeiter !
It's quite impressive. Here in Europe all that plywood would cost a fortune.
I know It's too late but did you ever consider an open grid frame in order, not only to save on plywood, but also to get more flexibility when building scenery below track level ?
It also helps to avoid a too flat and too straight fascia edge and, therefore, a flat looking scenery along the aisle side.
I understand your point.Yes, I did consider that. But ultimately I went with the flat table top method. It’s what I’ve done in the past. It was only 16 sheets of plywood.Having to learn a new construction method wasn’t in the cards.
Here a 122 x 244 x 5 cm sheet of styrofoam, about same size than yours costs 22 €= 47$.A 4 foot by 8 foot by 2 inches thick sheet currently runs around $55 at one of the “big box” stores. That’s the really dense type, usually pink or blue.
My 1/2 inch, surface one side plywood, that I bought from a lumber yard was around $47.
Not 81 $ but 78 $.Here a 122 x 244 x 5 cm sheet of styrofoam, about same size than yours costs 22 €= 47$.
A plywood board same size but only 15 mm thick (slightly less than 1/2 inch) costs 69,90 € = 81 $ !
Plywood…$81 ouch!Here a 122 x 244 x 5 cm sheet of styrofoam, about same size than yours costs 22 €= 47$.
A plywood board same size but only 15 mm thick (slightly less than 1/2 inch) costs 69,90 € = 81 $ !
My mistake the styrofoam costs 18,80 € = 22 $.Plywood…$81 ouch!
1 euro = 1.17 $My mistake the styrofoam costs 18,80 € = 22 $.
Sorry for all that confusion.
So styrofoam 22 $ vs 55 in the US.1 euro = 1.17 $
