as for the road:

Here's how I did it (hopefully I am not posting this twice:D

First I started out by using masonite (what fascia are made of) to create my road (like roadbed)

My problem was making ashphalt-like texture and colors. I tried I bunch of stuff but
it's either very, very time consuming, or the result leaves much to be desired.

So a while back I tried the rust-paint-speckle-thingy-in-a-can (available at Home Depot / RONA) and it turned out decent.

It is pretty quick and it can be weather - Using a diluted solution of water-based grey color and applied with a brush on the painted road.

Basically I cut out the road out of the masonite, go outside and spray them.
Not too thick, not too thin. One coat is enough. No need for priming the board first.

Now, if you do this inside it creates toxic fumes, so a well ventilated area is a must and all personal health consideration and safety adhere to.

The paint will eat the foam [scenery] so properly mask the surrounding scenery.

Once dry -roughly 1 hour- I glue [the road] into place on my layout. I used foam board as a road bed because roads are rarely level with the surrounding terrain.

After the paint is dry (24 hours) surrounding scenery can go ahead.

Damn! that looks good. Thanks for sharing your road technique.

While I have made some small progress in the Ste-Rosalie area, I also added a few more cars to the fleet to take care of some ``business``on the layout.

One new addition has been the CN Bulkhead Flat Car made by True Line Trains (TLT). Mostly used for lumber and other similar product which will be it`s role on the BOeC

The prototype:

Another addition is the Proto 1000 Limited Edition Series, 50`` Newsprint Car found in the bargain bin at my LHS for $12.00. When luck strike twice!

This one with the QGRY marking (ex CP). no less. Modification includes KD#5 couplers with trip pin removed and metal wheel-set. Weathering limited to the wheels at this time.

Sorry about the size of the pics!

It's all Scenicking Backdrop ( scenicking.com) and their new Roll Out backdrop. Check their website :)

another quick update. Straighten out some tracks and took the CN passenger train for a run.

Would that Alco FA still be in service? The reason for asking is that in the 2012 Annual of Kalmbach's Train's LOCOMOTIVE they've done a piece on bulldog cab units still in active service in NSW Australia and on P57 there's either a PA or FA based loco (44 class) at the head of a hopper and gondola train waiting the night out at Chullora yard in Sydney. Spotting differences are a round top to what would have been the Mars light, twin buffers on the pilot and a lack of the curved trim piece behind the doors (PA3 style).

I've been doing a bit of weathering on my ALCO/MLW RDS-15 . Need to do highlights and touch up as needed.

CN never used a MLW RDS-15 in service. However they did have one MLW demonstrator for a brief period. It did not translate in any order from CN. Further it never wore CN stripes livery either.

Well, I like the model, so I am twisting history a bit.. :)

Progress is moving along with the remodelling of Bois D'Arcy. In the meantime:

A few snapshot of a westbound freight pulled by a CN EMD SD60F at Ste-Rosalie with a fast eastbound passenger train on the eastbound track.

Quick update for the Bois D'Arcy section of the layout.

I managed to get some work done here and there :)

Gave a base coat of paint and installed the road bed for....the road!
and started the highway overpass.

Fascia is in place (glue is curing hence the screws).
I "pulled" this section of the layout so I can work on it from all side
which makes it easier.:D
