Eventually, that layout will be replaced by my "real" layout, currently in storage in a friend's hangar. Provided the Florida bugs and humidity haven't destroyed it.
So I'm back on the digging up the holly bush roots again today. There were 3 and I did manage to use the come along to pull up the smaller one. Anyone have any suggestions on the larger roots? Swal
I looked closer it looks like 1/4”. If you run that turnbuckle/shackle with the pin back to the comalong, it will double the pulling power as long as your anchor is solid.
OK I got one of the holly bush roots out. I just had to dig a little deeper. Put a chain around a tree and used a come along to pull it out. It wasn't easy. One to go. I'm so happy this job is done. Swal
We've got a 70-ish year old retired attorney in our complex. He has 27 wooded acres up in Wisconsin somewhere. But the kids live down here. So when he's here, he's the stump guy. Shovel, chainsaw, axe, and pry bar. It's how he keeps in shape.

A few weeks ago I sent in an application for a job at a local consulting company. A company that writes apps/systems for clients, or sends someone to help them, or whatever they need. Last week the engineering manager reached out to me and asked if I wanted to speak, and if so to send him a list of available times this week. I did that. That was Thursday I think but may have been Wednesday. I didn't hear anything but this morning he emailed and asked if I had time at 1:30 (this was 11:30). I said sure. He called me and we had a good chat. I'm going to meet up with him in an online meeting to do some small coding on Wednesday. We'll see what happens.
The other company I had first talked with the recruiter back almost three weeks ago (3 weeks tomorrow) got back with me last week on the 2 week anniversary and wanted to know when I had time to do an online interview with the technical manager. They got back to me Friday with a time so I will be meeting with them tomorrow. They are a nationwide insurance services company that has an office about 30 min from here where they do app development. They're not an insurance company, but a company that provides services to insurance companies.
I also saw another job at the large internet company I had bombed the interview with so I reached out to the recruiter to see if it was something she was in charge of. She said it was another recruiter and she would reach out to them and get back to me. Still waiting to hear back from that one.
That's the update.
This morning when I fell out of bed around 8:30am it was like 59F or some high 50s. Blue skies with scattered clouds. By the time I got out to walk at 9:45am it was like 62F or 64F and still blue with scattered clouds. With the sun beating down on you, the sun side was hot, while the shade side was nice and cool. But then big clouds rolled in and covered the sun so I could ditch the hood on my shirt (sun shield), and even remove the sun glasses which had gotten all sweaty. Occasionally the sun broke through small holes in the clouds. Like when I finally got back home there was bright sun shining on me again and making me hot but it was just a large hole in the clouds. It was a couple degrees warmer.
I went in to use the throne again and take a shower and stuff. When I was done with that I went into the kitchen and there were dark clouds everywhere and the temp had gone down a couple degrees outside. While I was eating my late breakfast it started to rain really hard for 10-15 minutes. But then it cleared up and now it's blue and partly cloudy and the temp is up to 69F. Strange day.
The office that I worked at is an old converted warehouse that's probably 100 years old. The water pipes going to it are probably as old as the water coming out of it stinks and is brown first thing in the morning. Since I was the first in the office normally, I'd run the water out of the tap for at least 5 minutes. But before I started doing that, people would run hot water, get water from the water filter and just clog those two things up with the cr@p coming out of the pipe. I traced the water system and they all come out of one 6 inch iron manifold outside of the building.
I can imagine that the water heater is full of stuff. I asked public works to flush it, but no answer. And then I retired...
For those of you that have been following my thread STUBBORN MULE GAP PHARMACY in the Buildings and Structures section, I have posted the pictures of the final version of the O scale building.

Just got back from the evening walk. Been chatting with the few people who I have met in the complex, asking if they've seen the "Poop Pirate"
Made the mistake of asking the woman who writes religious books. Someone told her i write too, so she's always fishing for my stance on various political topics. She thought I wrote "romances".... Nope! Murder mysteries with witches and pixies and talking cats. She asked how my writing was going?
I waved vaguely at the world... and said, not good due to world events. She pressed for why, and it went full political after that.
I'm fairly certain she's at home filling in her husband (retired pastor) about me and calling the prayer network.
I made sure at the end to remind her I wrote about magic and wizards and pixies and such.
One of several reasons that I switched to a tankless water heater five or six years ago. But my water also comes from a well about a mile and a half away, and it is all plastic pipes from there to me. No metallic corrosion or debris. I even changed out all of my own pipes from copper to PEX flexible pipe.
Good evening all. 76 here right now, from a high of 88. Rain off and on today and tomorrow looks to be the same. Fairly busy day at work today, it's nice to work with nice people. Gonna play in the train room tomorrow, going to pull up the yard area and see if a Timesaver will fit.
