Well, howdy there, internet peeps and those who pick up their pet's poo

It's Troy again... I may have just sent a polite but strongly worded letter to the HOA about the poop situation.

Was out on my morning walk after coming home from the wife's doctor visit. We found it easy enough, but missed the turn in at the first light, went to the turn in on the other end, and missed the cut-over into the parking lot. A strip mall (turned medical offices) in front of more offices. So a trek around the building, back out to the road with a left, then another left into the parking lot. The joy of driving in the dark.

The wife had a good visit. Seems wife got a wild hair a few years ago, and went off the one pill (not hormones) that was taking her hot flashes down. She just didn't want to be on so many meds (she's only on three with the new one). She and her doc worked out a plan to keep her off the hormone patches, but make stuff better.

After that, wife said she wanted a donut (more because she knew I'd want one) so we stopped on the way back for donuts.

Once I got home and got the morning chores going, I headed out for my walk between the rain forecasts.

Over the weekend we got an email-blast from the HOA, covering some stuff, but including a STRONGLY WORDED section about cleaning up after your pets.

Yeah, that worked about as well as making sails out of toilet paper. This was the freshest one on my morning stroll.

That's not three separate pets, but three "plops" from a poor animal that isn't allowed to squat, read the paper, and take care of business in a comfortable manner. I don't know of domesticated dogs that like to poo on the run. For Gods' Sake, People. Let the Pooch Poop in Peace! Poor fellow. Can't even get a good "constitutional" in without being dragged around.

So, I sent the photos, with the circles and arrows. I might have to get 8x10 color glossy photos if I appear in front of the board. Just my luck, they'll all have seeing eye dogs.

(bonus points if you get that reference)

I suggested putting out a paper copy of the "Strongly Worded Email" even volunteering to help deliver it. And, I said I'd gladly help with a one time clean up of the trails, IF the board took firm and decisive action to stop this dastardly doggie poo spreader.

We'll see how that goes.

There are three board positions open for next year. I'm fairly certain I'm about to get asked to run for the board. That's a firm NO.

Waaaay back in time. 1950s, 60s, 70s a shipping company, J. & C. Harrison of London was close to my heart. I followed their fortune and met some of the Captains and crews.

A book about the company has been published. I wanted a hardback edition, but only softback ones were available. That is until today; a new hardback copy is on sale. That is now on its way to my library shelf

Rent a stump grinder and be done with it in 10 minutes
Marlin a few years ago, the electric company cut down 4 large pine trees in the front of the house interfering with their eclectic lines and left the stumps. I hired a company to grid them all down for $600.00. It was a big machine they were using to do this. These holly bush roots are not that big. Maybe 2 of them 3 inches wide. I just bought some chain, and I already have a come along. I'm going out there now and see if that works? Swal

I think I would rather go to work!
You and me both! I enjoy working.

I'm not enjoying all these reports for taxes. Not to mention I think I underestimated what we will owe. That will come with an additional interest payment. I keep telling myself "It's okay, we made a lot more profit" but it's not helping much!

The downside of being self-employed.

I gave my Nephew and his buddy $40.00 each to carry my old one up from the basement and carry the new one down.
Now you have me thinking my standard twenty each is not enough.

We set it on the curb and within an hour a scrapper came along and snatched it up.
Thank God for those hard-working scrap guys!

That size root should come out easily with a come along, as long as you have a good anchor

Centralia, on Highway 61, has been burning under ground for decades. My uncle took my dad and I to see the glow after dark around 70 years ago. There are several other underground fires in NE PA. Some of the sink holes on I-80 in PA are attributed to mine shafts underneath collapsing....no mention of fires though.

FWIW: My memories of anthracite are of the blue flame from the stove in my aunt's kitchen, and the smell of burning anthracite, as well as the absence of smoke vs. Bituminous with its smoke and smell. Dad would buy anthracite by the bag, and burn it in his fireplace instead of wood. I also remember neighbors too cheap to buy coal, who would trek daily to the clean out track to picl up the discarded lumber dunnage, using their home made wagons.

There was an old mine fire burning under Belleville, Illinois for a long time too. I think it was reported in the late 70s or early 80s. Subsidence is a much larger problem in Belleville. The whole city is undermined.

Sometime in the mid-80s, my second cousin built a house in the country over an undermined area. Within a couple of years the house was falling apart due to the subsidence. They leveled it and moved elsewhere.

Most of Southern Illinois is all undermined.

So I'm back on the digging up the holly bush roots again today. There were 3 and I did manage to use the come along to pull up the smaller one. Anyone have any suggestions on the larger roots? Swal

Dig deeper and you will have to most likely use an axe to chop off some side going appendages. There's just no going around hard labor sometimes.

I guess you need to check that one out. For comparison sake.
I did Toyko in the 1990’s on business. It was a whirlwind and not a sightseeing trip. My wife and Sister have been on a few trips to Japan and loved it. It’s a nice thought but

Our travel the next couple years are being planned as domestic and Canada. I’ve been trying the last 6 weeks every time I zoomed with Terry while she was in Hawaii and now at home that we could skip on down to New Zealand again. I loved the country as did she and it would be a safe haven politically! I’m so tired of the current situation but she says no and I can’t and will not go alone…
