I am glad that this forum has its policies. I just sent a message to the administrators of another one, which shall remain nameless, but starts with r and ends with ebb for some hateful crap that got spewed out right after one of my posts. And this was a post in what are you listening to type thread. I don't know if it was directed at me as I had just posted Nightwish While Your Lips Are Still Red. Nice song, didn't know nor cared if there were any underlying messages or agenda. I did do a search to see if there were, but didn't find anything.
I was going to blast back at both he and the follower who posted something like how do i follow such a powerful statement or something. I was going to say - that would be easy, don't whine so much? But didn't. I just unfollowed the thread.
My message to the administrator was about them reducing the hate and personal attacks on their forum. Someone posts a review about recently released model. He put info such as where to install the additional parts, how this prototype had this and this other one did not, etc. Really handy stuff IMO. But man, he gets pounded. I defended and thanked him for posting such useful information that I could use. Another situation was one guy posted that with all the negative feedback, he wasn't going to be buying one. One of the manufacturer's guys went on to attack his character as to why he would just come on and state that. My response was going to be that the manufacturer's guy had nothing else to defend his product with and so he had turned to a personal attack, but didn't. I walked away from that one.
A recent debacle was with a manufacturer and Sam's Trains. Sure, Sam can be pretty tough in his reviews and is a bit too emotional at it, but calls out big mistakes, especially repeated ones. A manufacturer guy responded poorly and stated that Sam was just doing this for clicks. Sam has been getting attacked on this forum for a while and this one broke the camel's back. He put out a video and called them out. The manufacturer had the forum remove the statement from the thread and the guy issued an apology, albeit a lame one, but Sam publicly accepted it.
So, I will wait and see if the administrators respond. If they tell me to pack sand, then I will ask them to delete my folder as I do not wish to share anything on that forum. And then they can delete my account.
Did I say, glad to be here!
There is always likely to be something we disagree with, and sometimes we like the side that gets trounced, if you made a comment in support and stood up to what you thought was unfair, or did a private message showing support so it was not removed.
We cannot know all the nuances, in my personal experience the mods here do the best they can, and have long memories so previous posts. May factor in to their response. it can on a rare occasion be a financial backer so their hands are somewhat tied(this is supposition on my part and does not reflect any actions on this specific forum)
Sometimes we see an injustice or perceive one,but I would say people will stand up for their product, people can have two different points of view but both valid from their own point of view. on another thread we are discussing the purist view of a layout, reflecting reality, not including unreal elements, which I know I am guilty of, even saying adding real graffitti can lower the tone. Several of us would not model what other people are just most of us are more tolerant of those w ho do it differently to us.
I personally believe by showing support of those whose opinion and work you like is the important part, but avoiding a slanting (edited I meant slanging - not typing to change anything I said) match - I mean attacking people personally or being just nasty about their work is down to a mod to decide. will I defend someone too right.
I often see work that is not necessarily admirable, BUT my own early work is easily laughed at, but there is a learning curve, people come here to learn and improve, to share.
I personally would not advocate, walking away, nor deleting one’s work. I know a person in real life who took a hammer to his work (not personally on forum and I think i]he uploaded on YouTube too) because I have seen people totally regret it on reflection. if you are upset enough take a break, if other things mean you do not have time, take a break.
I personally would not burn bridges.
I am sorry your experiences atm seem to have negativity. But remember to take your own perception, your own outside influences, sometimes one can be more sensitive to influences. several instances at once can seem overwhelming, perhaps step back for a moment for perspective.
I also believe in the ethos I often type it, if you see something you do not like, that you cannot do anything about, where someone else’s opinion tis contrary to your own and annoys you, probably best to scroll on down, and stick to the parts that you like and enjoy them.
FYI my own break here was completely influenced by off forum circumstances. I enjoy the banter. Hence why I came back. The only sad thing was to find that someone I liked Sirfoldalot was no longer with us, but I still have good memories of him.
