WOW! For my 1500 sq ft house, 800 sq ft train shed and 15 acres, my taxes are just $795/year! It dropped last year from $815 since the barn was destroyed by the tornado.
This was one of the reasons I wanted to sell the house and move south Willie but I have to many friends here and the classmates I use to play golf with that live in NC have to many health issues where they can't even play golf anymore. That's why I tell people pay attention to your diet. Swal

I'm supposed to meet friends here Saturday to help move bulky items like the small layout and computer desk. The new place came completely furnished, down to dishes in the cupboards and some food in the fridge and pantry. There are a number of power and hand tools in the workshop, and even towels and dishcloths. I bought this place from a widow in Canada whose husband passed on the last time they were down here. One of the reasons I haven't begun staying there is the bed. For reasons known only to them, they put a California King bed in the bedroom, and in the tiny room, it completely fills it. There's less than afoot between the foot of the bed and the wall, and the same with one side of the bed. The head and other side are against walls. I've ordered a double mattress, and will source a double box spring this coming weekend. Another of their questionable choices was installing an oversized, elongated-bowl toilet in the tiny bathroom. It again fills the space, leaving only a few inches between it and the bathroom cabinets. When I briefly sat on it, my feet were partly inside the shower stall. Once I move in, I'm going to look at options for replacing the toilet with one more suited to the space available. An advantage to where and what this technically is, I can do nearly anything I want inside without worrying about code and permits. Not that I'm planning to do anything sketchy, I've been doing this kind of work since 2008, so I know what I can do to get the best results.

For those among us who are tax-burdened, my annual property taxes are $60/year.

Good Thursday morning! It's 61°F and clear.

Diet is a big thing back in 2020 when Covid hit the other half stopped smoking, he changed his diet not even reducing calories to more Keto or carnivore, avoiding sugars. He lost 7 stone returning to the hunk I married, I lost 2 and a half stone bringing me back to 10 and a bit, I am now 10 and a more bit but very happy I kept so much of the weight off.
I recently had a blood check as I have been feeling tired a lot. they found nothing but confirmed I am not diabetic or indeed pre diabetic. I have upped my vitD3 and K2 earlier than usual as summer months I do not bother much.
Thanks to the bad press over Covid vaccines which the other half was forced to have or they would not treat a teeth issue even though we were private. The talk of white lumpy kit in one’s veins, and the onset of a couple of varicose veins which admittedly appear infrequently and can be got rid of has led both of us to think….take the aspirin - once a week. This is touted on sites, not by NHS.
Still paracetamol and ibruprofen are both known that long term usage can mess your kidneys and liver. one affects one and the other the other I take neither so do not bother to remember which is which.
aspirin main issue is over use (hence one a week) can lead to ulcers, so I eat more acid food. my research says you eat acid your stomach produces alkaline to digest, and eat alkaline and you body produces the acid, and the acid reflex. Also the other half who had initial bowel syndrome and terrible acid reflux they said at one time his oesophagus was bent, refused the tablets as they are like taking milk you get an instant sense of relief but your stomachs reaction is produce more acid creating a vicious cycle :( People in general are now also refusing this medicine as they read about the instant relief against long term damage! Omerprazole also sold under other names, likely to avoid the bad press.
I won’t take vaccines at all, now I know they played with DNA is those vaccines. my trust in the NHS is unfortunately broken,

Wow, that's small. When I designed my house, I went with a tankless toilet so that it could be moved further back and give us a little bit more space in our toilet room. In Japan, the toilet is separate from the bath.

Some countries call it a water closet or WC. Ours is definitely a closet.

(oops, forgot to hit post reply...)

Good morning all!

Currently 58F heading up to a high of 88F. Going to be warm and a little muggy out today. Humidity is starting to build.

Not much planned for today. Probably a load of laundry and house pick-up.

Volleyball is at home tonight, so no travel involved.

Have a safe day everyone!

1 stone = 14# btw.

So he lost almost 100#, wow that's a lot! Good job! I lost 25# after my colon resection surgery. Trying to keep it off, but sedentary life style is making that difficult. I keep telling myself to git off yer arse and move. But then another loco project calls me and I'm back at the workdesk.

Yesterday, I had to get a new prescription of lisinopril, so I left the house around 9 to try to hit the sweet spot in traffic to miss the early and late rush. Got my prescription and then tried to waste time on base until 1 pm to attend a retiree lunch thing that happens once a month. I went to one store to get some silicon sealant, then to the next one to see if they had any new cast iron pans, and then to the main store to see what kind of digital cameras they had. Made it to 12 and started to get hypoglycemic, so I decided to get home before I couldn't drive. Oh well, missed another lunch.

At least I can still pump out 60 push ups, but the right shoulder tells me to stop.

Morning all,

A bit rainy this morning, currently 66°.

First:

Hughie: Happy Belated Anniversary to you and your Mrs. May you have many more.
Tom: Happy anniversary to you and your Mrs. And hopes for many more.

You both have more than the wife and I (42 years).

The taxes on my 1800 Sq ft house on about 1/3 of an acre lot was just under $3600. Does not help that the houses behind me are in a higher priced subdivision (Developer had 2 types of housing he was building simultaneously. One starting at $150K, The other starting at $85K when the homes were new 25+ years ago.) It also doesn't help that in the past 2 years, a new development opened up on the next block north, with houses about the same size as mine, starting at $290K. County has my house appraised at $260K this year (A bit over double what I paid for it 11 years ago). Always told the wife that after we had it paid for, it was going to cost us nearly $1000\mo just to pay for Insurance and taxes. So far it's not too far off.

Good morning from Wisconsin. 60f degrees now 86 later.

Anniversary #49 today

Doctor appointment at 2:45 this afternoon, dinner out

Son in law still in pain as kidney stones have not passed but he’s home

That’s my day so far

Enjoy yours

Edit: thanks for the well wishes!

Good Morning All. Slight fog but otherwise clear overhead and 72°. No real change in our forecast except they have removed the chance of rain for tomorrow. Cooler weather beginning Wednesday.

Rats! I apparently broke my electric chain saw yesterday while sawing through a 16" log. Motor spins but the shaft doesn't, so I think that it broke internally. That was my 6th cut on that log, so it may have been my fault for overdoing it. I know of only one shop that will work on an electric model, but that costs more than buying a new one.

Once again, it's time for the weekly grocery trek today. Got a pretty big list this week already, and my wife hasn't added anything yet. An additional stop at the Vitamin Shop and now another one at Home Depot for the new chainsaw.

While I spent about 90 minutes out in the train shed yesterday, none of it was productive. A neighbor of mine, Marty, who now maintains my hayfield; and has been a neighbor off and on since his family moved in back in 1981, was down discussing the schedule for the hay. He asked about the RR crossbucks next to the door of the train shed, so I invited him in. He never knew what was inside, although his late father had visited before. He was awestruck at what he saw. I ran some trains and gave him a guided tour. He was especially impressed with many of the laser-cut wood structures from Bar Mills, Blair Line and others. He was also very impressed with some of the mini-scenes that he saw. He really liked this one.

And he liked this one as well since he has been in the same situation many times before.

While I don't have it, I explained DCC to him and he was impressed with the technology. I don't think that I converted him to model railroading, but sure left him impressed.

Terry - Good luck with the change of ownership at the shop. I went through 4 ownership changes at my company over 43 years and 3 of the 4 turned out better for us employees.
Interesting home purchase with all of the extras! Surprised that there wasn't a pet included.
John - Like you, all of our mail comes through the Ft Worth distribution center, and it's usually here the following day. Except packages that are too big for the mailbox which we have to go to town to get. It's what goes on before it gets there that holds things up.
Tom O - Happy anniversary to you and Terry.

Everyone have a wonderful Thursday.

Well howdy there internet peeps and those looking for a late night show to host.

It's troy again.

Just back from a grocery run. Decided I wanted to grill some steaks tonight. Wife agreed.

I haven't been paying attention to prices when I shop. But WOW has beef gone up. I'm trying to figure out why we import so much from Brazil if Texas and Oklahoma are filled with beef cattle?

I remember being able to get a 12 oz sirloin for $8 US... It was $15 today!

Worded some words this morning. In the mood to word more, but not sure what comes next. So I'll probably go take a stroll to let the grey matter percolate some plot lines.

70°F/64°F at 0815 this morning. Good morning all.

Haircut day and have to pick up a monthly prescription a little later this morning.

Oktoberfest starts Saturday at 1200 CEDT/0600 CDT with the tapping of the barrel at the Schottenhamel tent by the Burgermeister of München.

It's time to take the sausages and chicken out of the freezer for thawing so they are ready to cook by Saturday. I also have to get beer either today or tomorrow. The pretzels also have to be baked, but that won't be until Saturday afternoon.

Everyone have a good day!

Need help from the brain trust.

I want to add some more lights to my drop ceiling to light up the upper deck better. What is in the ceiling now is easily moved, I just need to get some replacement ceiling panels. I couldn't find the originals when I installed the puck lights during the pandemic. So getting rid of the older panels is on my "someday" honeydo list.

View attachment 239202

That one that is at the end of a panel and not centered was positioned above my hobby desk before I moved the layout into that corner. (It can move, and I don't mind trashing a panel if I need to.

QUESTION: I may not put up valance to hide the lights. I'm debating on centering in each panel as one normally would. Or positioning centered over the layout itself. As you can see, that would put the rightmost row of pucks near the long-brace for the drop ceiling.

I've already got the pucks, just need to pick up a roll of romex to add to the existing run.

Thoughts or suggestions on positioning?? Am I going to end up adding a Valance to hide the off-centerness if I go that way?
Troy: Anyway can you do some sort of trac-lighting? You can highlight the areas you wish with that.

In my case, I have 12; 5 petal LED lights in a 30' x 40' which looks to work good for indirect lighting. Layout is two level so LED strings between the lower and upper level, and have been thinking about a canopy above the upper level with LED strings. Except for a couple of spots, layout is not wider than 28". I do not have drop ceiling, so the canopy will help with the crap that falls through the cracks off the layout. Wait, drop ceiling will also shed crap. They do make a fiberglass tile that is not supposed to shed although I have no idea about those.

Good morning gang!

66° and sunny! Heading to a high of 79°, woohoo!! After 2 solid days of rain it is a welcome sight.

Tom, happy anniversary to you and Terry!

After searching for a new grab iron template from Atlas (or BLMA) I've decided to pull the trigger on the one from Tichy. The Atlas was was photo etched brass, the Tichy on looks like cardstock. It should be delivered by tomorrow. Meanwhile the F unit sits.

We've had the discussion about moving also, but we came to the conclusion that no place was perfect.

Oregon may have somewhat messed up politics, fairly high cost of living, and high state taxes (no sales tax though), but we have a very mild climate & weather compared to the rest of you. No real humidity, 3-6 inches of snow annually, plenty of rain in the winter (no water issues), the Pacific within about an hour, mountains within about the same, incredible medical/hospitals/specialists within 20 minutes, thunderstorms are rare, no tornadoes, 1 tiny earthquake in the last 23 years, no flooding, and no volcanic events since the 1980's..

I'm like Willie, I try to grow as much as I can and eat healthy. If we had more property (and I wasn't concerned with rats) we would have chickens too. I try hard to avoid sugar and refined carbs. I'm still in the gym every other day for cardio, core, & muscular skeletal strength. Balance is important. Being able to tie your shoe while standing and balancing on the other foot is a good sign of core strength.

Watch "The Blue Zones" on Netflix. It's an eye opener on living well.

Genetics do play a part. My mom's father was bowling a 145 average at 98. My mom is 92, still drives in the daytime, hits the gym 4 days a week, and matched me by doing a 4 minute plank. Genetics. I may not have any cardiovascular or pulmonary issues, but I've had 3 skin cancers...so far.

Thought about it, but I have the puck lights already.

I can position them to wash evenly, or spread them out a bit to add some shadows. All that costs is the price of ceiling panel if I need to reposition them.
