OK, been searching this forum and the interweb about getting paint off a mantua plastic tender. Can't find what kind of plastic it is as IPA is not good for certain types of plastic. Soaking it in this or that or whatever. I don't want to melt this thing into slag or cause it to become brittle. If I can get all the paint off, I won't have to repaint since I need a black tender.
Pine Sol or DOT 3 brake fluid.

99% alcohol bath for 24 hours then a light scrub with an old toothbrush or paintbrush. Keep a lid on the container as it will evaporate quickly. I have an old Tupperware type shoebox that seals, nice and tight and I can keep alcohol viable for a half a dozen body shells. It is also the only chemical I have ever found that will remove paint from a Kato shell.

Morning all,

66° and clear this morning, high later of 89° with some rain possible, more so tomorrow.

Coffee today on me.

Troy: Congrats to your daughter.

Jaz: Post away. We did indeed miss you.

Back to the trenches. Seems my backups failed last week, so I gotta rebuild them...blaaaah. Life of a Network Admin. Somebody has to be responsible. Sadly, I'm old enough to everyone else in the departments dad. My supervisor is a year older than my kids and the other 2 are in their late 20's early 30's. And I'm not the boss because I didn't want the headaches, even though I'm in most meetings related to IT stuff.

what up coffee friends from all over!

busy time overhere thats why iam not around all day but hey some storys to tell. last weekend i played my season ending tournament in our discgolf swisstour, and what could i say, i placed 4th in MP40 category woop woop! I won some Cash :P around 120$ sounds like much, but the tournament fee also was 70$ so all good hehe. but it feels great to beat some of the better players in our community, and speacialy be the best player from our club gnihihihi.

modelrailroad wise also something was happening. i was always interestedd in doing stuff my way. trying out things or find out things how they work or how they where done. iam lucky to have Marcel Ackle as a friend. he can teach me stuff about creating that i did not know where possible. so i will try to build my own grasmatts (like Martin Welberg) if i can achive maybe 70% of his quality iam happy. we will see.

then i was googling for some ABT502 Oil colors and found a shop in switzerland (not far from my place) that was selling for a prize that was just awesome. i saw that they have everything on sale. so i was wondering. well what can i say. i will go and pay a visit this sathurday, and maybe i will buy EVERYTHING they have left, and resell the stuff. it could work i think. i have some ideas.

as i told you busy time overhere, but its fun!

i will now grab another coffee and start working.

cheers
marco
Best to you on purchasing and Re-selling the Abteilung502 oils. Good product.

Because of the tariffs most of the paints I use are no longer being restocked at the shops I was buying them from. Vallejo, Ammo by Mig and the clears by VMS and Tamiya are gone or almost double in price if they have them. I have enough Tamiya matte clear though for maybe 200 cars.

My paint mixing skills are going to be tried when I need to replace the color in the bottle that I can no longer purchase. I have a color wheel and it’s going to get good use in the months to come.

saddly the ABT502 part is the smallest on the List :D
biggest part is AK products, second AMMO MIG. If i get a shot and a good prize i could send you a list if you need something ;)

Cheers

Good morning from my little section of Wisconsin. 54f/12c degrees heading to 85f/29c. Still dry with no rain in the forecast for the next 72 hours anyway

The new thing for the layouts around here are the homemade slide drawers to hold the electronics. What a PITA! Went to a layout work session yesterday afternoon and helped install 2. The van driver has 4 on his layout under construction so he was the “expert”. 2 of the 3 drawers needed are installed and I sure hope it’s worth it. Both my drivers and yesterday’s layout owner are gone for almost the next 4 weeks. So I have no close by work sessions scheduled. That means I may have to work on my own layout!

Checking my train calendar I do have 1 OPS Session scheduled for the next 4 weeks either on Monday evenings or Tuesday afternoons. All in the Madison area and none no farther than 11 miles. But 2 of them only can be reached by driving through downtown so those are 30-40 drives in traffic!

Terry and I are going out today looking at houses not condos for sale on Lake Geneva, Wi. which is 90 minutes away. Her best friend lived there about a year a couple years ago. It was too busy a place to live full time for her. I never thought Terry was serious about looking but she has a list of 4. Says it would be a good family get away spot. She also wants to visit OCononowoc Lake near Milwaukee this weekend about 60 minutes away. Not 100% sure of this sudden (to me) interest. But, why not as it doesn’t cost to look. The realtor says she has not seen so many listings for either lake since the dot com bust. This should be an interesting adventure today. I called one of our favorite restaurants yesterday when I agreed to go look. Always needed reservations but the lady who answered said just walk in when you get here as after Labor Day it’s an empty place

Be well

Good morning gang!

64° under cloudy skies , heading to 72°. With a 50% chance of showers today, more of the same tomorrow.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago, thought I would pass this along. I initially got it to drill holes in PC crossties while making older turnouts DCC friendly. Now I keep finding more uses. Much lighter and more maneuverable than a Dewalt drill, and slower cutting than a Dremel, and easier on the hands than a pin vice.

Mini drill

Posting on another thread where purists had bullied people with a wider acceptance of modelling, once again highlights how good this forum is I don’t see bullying here, and know of several who would highlight just how unacceptable it is.
When can people just learn to accept to live and let live and not try to impose their will on others when their aspect does no harm
I do not know who coined the frame, “scroll on down.” in my opinion they needed a peace prize.

I often see stuff I personally would not do (sometimes just because I don’t have the skill set) but to pause and try to diminish their work is just sad.
my mum used to say if you cannot say something nice, say nothing.

I do love this forum :D

That said if I see a punch up and I think someone is just being hateful I may need waders. Although in todays climate I might just say do not escalate, if I can’t say something nice I too should scroll past. Or do the sensible thing and tell a mod.

also if i would send as a gift? or how does that work?
I don’t know! But I am ok for now but appreciate your offer to help. I’ll let you know.

For paints I’m good for a couple months at least. The VMS matte clear is a possible concern but I can buy it still from Michigan Toy Soldier (michtoy.com) but at about double what I paid in May! The other thing that may extend the inventory I have is I had intentionally reduced my advertising for my weathering services. Plus now the economy has definitely cut into Facebook weathering sales. It does give me time to explore other things

Do you know this shop? A neighbor had some business in WI, including Green Bay and Madison, last week. He said this place had the real deal German products.

Yes, it might be under a mile away. Great sausages overall but some of the best brats we’ve ever purchased and eaten. I know they have new corporate ownership in the last year or so. We still buy occasionally as we no longer entertain like we used to . But they were an absolute go to. Highly recommend

I had a great weathering client and train photographer (Terry Redecker who passed last week) who sold product to them (mustard and other spices to them). He would stop here when visiting them on his sales route to pick up or deliver his models for weathering and 6 weeks later come back as he was visiting his client again. Clock like precision for about 6 years.

Good Morning All. Clear and 68°, going back up to 95° later on. More of the same coming up, but with rain now added for Friday, Sunday and Monday.

Spent a lot of time in the yard yesterday. Worked on the compost bin and gathered a bunch of cut and partially cut firewood from the "back 40". Trimming and stacking is on the agenda today. Pool water is still a comfortable 84°, providing a needed respite since there is no wind.

Saw my first Halloween decorations yesterday, alongside the highway a few miles south of me. There is a restored buckboard embellished with hay and pumpkins. I was driving and couldn't get a picture.

No time yesterday in the train shed, as I had to make a late afternoon drive to town to pick up a prescription. I had counted 6 pills left on Friday morning when I called in the refill, which needed doctor's OK. Then on Sunday evening I realized that I took 2/day! Another senior moment.

FYI Brussels sprouts go well with bacon bits
Everything goes well with bacon! Never tried a raw Parsnip, thanks for the warning. Whooops! I now see that Chad already made the bacon comment!
BTW - I am real pleased that you returned to this forum. Despite all of the kidding, I love your posts.
David - Never tried Mint on Potatoes. Which type do you use?
Alan - Six month Medicare checkups is a dream to me. Mine are every 90 days since my PCP diagnosed me as Type 2 diabetic. I think that he did that just to get the two extra visits paid for!
Karl - I'm right there with you regarding canned (in metal) food. Mom always used fresh or frozen and my wife was the same way.
Joe - I have a few cars with those Jaeger lumber loads. I'm glad that I did the wrapping 30 years ago. I'd lose patience now. Best wishes to your wife regarding the shingles and I hope that you avoid it.

Blues guitarist B.B. King was born on this day 100 years ago. He passed away in 2015 at 89.
Everybody have a great day today.

Good morning all!

Another warm September day today. Currently 72F with a little haze. High is supposed to hit around 86F.

Not much going on around here other than a load of laundry. Been pretty quiet today. I will take it!

Volleyball game tonight. It is at home so no travel involved.

Have a safe day everyone!
