That's another one that I try to grow. I managed to get at least one baseball sized beet each time. Since I'm the only one who eats it, it usually goes bad before I can finish it. I just boil it. If I need a pickled one, I go to the commissary. I should try eating the tops, just to spite the worms... haha
Baby beetroot leaf is very popular in uk baby salad leaf mix

And that size beetroot is good, you can grow three - five in one space and eat one at a time, once they get big they go ‘woody’ and are often less tasty and tough

Good morning from bright sunny So. Central Wisconsin. 60f degrees now heading into the upper 80’s

I’m heading to a work session around noon time. The Crew Van driver will text about 1 hour ahead of pickup. Unusual as the Crew Van driver normally is very precise on what time he will pick us up

I will now eat parsnips but refused as a kid. I prefer Kohlrabi, love raw but skinned carrots and celery is great

Terry is flying home today and should arrive around 8pm if the Denver connection is made. The United Denver to Madison flight sometimes gets cancelled. The daughter and granddaughter will pick her up unless it gets nearer to 10 when I will do the pickup

The house is clean even though I skipped the Friday and Monday vacuum duties. I will do a quick run through today

I watched the full Packer/Commander game on Thursday, maybe 2 minutes of KC/Philly on Sunday and no time on any College games. just no real interest

Trying to figure my breakfast and lunch schedule. Breakfast should be easy as I normally eat 90 minutes after I wake up or for today 8am. An English muffin and 3 strips of bacon to eat. Lunch though is usually 4 hours later but today I’ll be in the Van heading north. So maybe 11am a 1/2 ham sandwich which is 1 piece of sourdough bread, some ham and a diet soda. No chips or anything else today. The glucose monitor will come along with a couple snack bars if I need them. The layout we are going to work on will have cut Applecrisps, grapes and oranges to snack on anytime. He also is a diabetic and a retired doctor. So this diabetic will be ok

Be well

Good Morning All. Clear, dry and 71° here. Nothing has changed in our forecast since Labor Day. This is our Fall, highs in the lower-90's, lows around 70°. But cooler temperatures are coming because I have been seeing the snakes on the move looking for sheltered places to spend the Winter. Sorry Troy, no pictures.

Busy Sunday for me yesterday. Besides the usual Mass and bed linen laundry, I had the dishwasher and an additional load of laundry on the household chores list. Still cool enough in the early afternoon that I split wood for about 30 minutes. The pool felt good.
Today is unplanned right now. I know that the household trash needs to go out to the dumpster. Otherwise on the potential list is cutting or splitting more firewood, raking more grass clippings for next years compost and mulch or just general yard maintenance. Good week ahead with no medical appointments but still waiting on the call to come pick up the Accura from the repair shop.

In our house it was the poor kids from China who were starving. I do remember one of my brothers suggesting sending the Lima Beans to them; unfortunate for him that he was within arms reach of Dad. I hated them as well, but I learned to just swallow them whole instead of chewing them.

I didn't get to spend as much time out in the train shed as I would have liked yesterday. I was able to track down two more freight cars that I needed, to take pictures for my database. I also continued my adventure of looking through long-forgotten boxes from under the layout to reacquaint myself with what's in them. Some got additional markings with the felt-tip pen to make remembering easier. Nothing else of any significance was discovered.

Willie, that BN gondola actually looks like a nice weathering job already.
Yes, I did use it as a practice car at one point. It got packed away in 2009 when I was closing the old train room up in preparation for the building of the new train shed in 2010-2011.
Kusojiji - I only tried to grow Brussels Sprouts once rather unsuccessfully though.
Louis - I'm also a fan of Parsley on more than just Potatoes. I have a huge clump growing in a planter box on the back porch and just pick off a few outer leaves whenever needed.

No significance to most of us, but you Brits may know that today is Prince Harry's 41st birthday.

Everyone have a great Monday.

Everyone have a great Monday.
My experiment with the Okinawan sweet potatoes was a bust. I had two (2) 6" potatoes out of 4 plants. My gut says it was my soil mix. The vines only went out about 6' and were almost all yellow this weekend. NOW the ones I planted at my mom's house have vines out to about 15' and are still bright green, so I have my fingers crossed. I'll give hers another week or two.

One little story involving, Prince Harry before he married.
He came into our local Co-op store and bought a number of items.
The girl on check out asked him, "Have you a (Co-op) store card?"
"No," he replied.
The girl then began explaining that with a store card he would have saved five pence on his shopping.

Good morning gang!

69° under partly sunny skies, or is it partly cloudy I'm never sure how to call it. Its like half empty vs half full.

SIL's birthday bash was a success so that kept us busy all day. Got home around 8 pm and promptly fell asleep and missed the Saturday night race. In fact, I slept til almost noon on Sunday!

Willie: No need to worry. Just remember to put the warning in bold well above any snooky pics so I can scroll real fast and avoid them.
I didn't mention that when we were at our post cemetery lunch spot, they had the channel set to the nature channel. Yep... Florida Everglades snake rescue with Jeff C came on... a TV on every wall. Fortunately we were to dessert by then. When I went to pay at the counter, the girl working noticed the show.

"Ewwww.... that's supposed to be the fluffy animal channel, not the let's operate on a giant snake channel."

so they changed it right before we left.

As for sleep last night (non snook related) I had hit my asthma inhaler earlier in the day... albeit after cleaning two cat boxes, running & emptying the vacuum. So my sleep was short little jots, then wide awake for half-an-hour, then sleep, then wide-awake, etc.

Got some words worded, but the brain ran out of ideas as to what comes next.

So, I'm thinking of playing with my track plan templates on the upper deck and seeing what I come up with first go.

My preference is Tim Horton's Dark Roast. Either ground or K-cup three 10oz per day average.

Karl, Walthers used to offer an F unit detail kit with template.
It was for Athearn, but it would be better than what you have now.
Karl and Terry: Believe they still offer that kit. Bowser / Cal Scale are light on instructions....If you have to ask...
I've got a friend up in Alaska that drinks instant because it's less trouble than making five pots in one day.
That's all my parents had at home, instant. They even had Nescafe Instant Tea... I could never get the mix right, so I went to brewed.

Speaking of U-Tube, I have been monitoring Ashland VA of late. Just watched a SB Coal Train. Single Unit leading, 89 loads, and a pair of DP pushing on the rear. Things I never expected to see on the Railroad.

Good morning all,

Sunny, breezy, mild.

Quiet around here yesterday, will be working on the Suburban most of the day, finishing up the body putty on the driver's side, and sanding.

We had a nice summer, 4 days only with the ac on overnight, highest electric bill $107.

We have a small garden, it produced abundant kale, Swiss chard, beets, and zucchini. Will be planting different greens next year and amending the soils where the production was low.

It is supposed to be rainy towards the end of the week, those will be my train days.

Good Morning All!

57F @ 83% No rain yet.

Coffee: When we had the coffee shop, we found Craven's and exclusively drank 'Cafe Bazza' which was blended just for us. That all changed when we went on the road. When that happened, did not matter what kind, cold, warm or hot as long as it fit in our mugs. Now days, we just get Folgers as that seems to be the cheapest that matches our tastes.

Wow, 0 and 2 for KC. Loving that part, could not happen to a better team.... Last time was 2014 with that start.... Keep up the bad work!

Got 4 walls up on the chicken/goat house. Need to T1-11 the South side and then we can start the roof deck.. Well, if it does not rain too hard.

Just returned from my annual physical and lab work. The doc has decided I'll live another 6 months, but I need to return in March to make sure. He also scheduled a Cologuard to be sent to my new residence. UPS' first delivery to me will be a box to poop in...
Don't you love those 6 month Medicare checkups? :) I have those plus a kidney doc, plus an Oncologist. Just before retiring, I told the CEO of my company (who was breaking my balls for not coming to the home office more often) that I'm like a classic British sports car. I generally start up and run, but something is always broken or leaking. 🤣

I remember conversations like that with the owner of the company I worked for the last couple years. He was my brother and now 11 years later he’s going through many of the issues I had plus his hips being replaced. Karma!

It's always fun to bring the return box to the UPS shipping office. Most of the managers know what it is, but most of the employees (part time college students here) have no clue. They sometimes ask if I want insurance, even though the preprinted label tells them no, and I then explain what's in it. It's then held at arm's length to the outbox.

I was a real royal when we had Queen Elizabeth, I have hopes yet for William and down to earth Kate, Charles often makes me cringe although I think he and Diana were on equal footing, but I do not know any of their birthdays I don’t care either, and if they celebrate on a day that is not the real birthday I especially do not care - although I can see their reasoning as birthdays are personal.
I know mine, my husbands, my two sons (I have a quick check on the year in my mind) I knew my mum and dads. And I remember a friends she was a little devil at time and was 6/6/1960 I always thought 1966 would have suited her so much better.
other than that? Nil Zero Nada.

Edit - I do not consider Harry to be royal anymore, and frankly do not want him back - at all. such a snake in the grass has shown his colours. He is super narcissistic and is always chasing money or using it to make a statement inc his last desperate just over a million. He should have gracefully gone and lived a fairly quiet (as in shut the xxxx up) life, I could have respected that, even applauded it. he has shown his colours.
another Royal or royal should accept he has no value anymore, and similarly accept a low profile permanently. If truth be told a prison sentence would likely have resulted for anyone else. in this day and age we would like our Royals to be at least reasonably nice - but I see other royals having used their life for ill. I do unfortunately come to understand why so many want no monarchy at all :(

I always do stuff as well as presents for my husband, this one took me a while and quite quickly he had seen what I was doing but had the decency to not say it was likely his birthday present it is cut as I signed it
Homemade is popular too but I have usually scoffed it before thinking oops should have photographed it the small rounballs with nuts are effectively ferro rocher my husband banned me from making them more than once a year as they last….oooh about 15 minutes from the second they hit the plate excellent with a cold baileys. The waffles on the muffin are a fudge as I buy the caramel wafer and put it on the muffin mid cook, homemade sausages are gorgeous but getting natural skins and keeping them fresh is a pain, and a pork burger is so similar, lamb burgers are very popular here but basic meat, salt, optional garlic pepper…hmmm I think I need to go cook…..

Not sure which test you guys are getting, but the ones we get through LabCorp (via my wife's employer) don't ask for the full thing back. We just have to swipe the sample with a probe and put enough goop into a small tube of sterile solution. The tube is about the size of one of those squeeze tube one-use CA glue samples. After that, put it in a ziplock, then a box, and another plastic bag with the postal code on it.

On an off note, just got blocked on Facebook by Lucy Dormant for asking if her recent spate of politically oriented posts on her Blue Check Mark page was going to continue.

After she responded questioning if the stuff she posted was political (it was), I asked if the NMRA was paying in whole or part the fees that FB charges monthly for the blue check mark. If the NMRA is paying, I'd prefer no politics. If Lucy is paying, no problemo...

She replied that she paid for it herself. Then blocked me.

Oh well... :) Back to playing with trains, which is why I had followed that profile.

My favorite way to eat vegetables is steamed with only salt added at the table. Anything more detracts from the flavor. I love all kinds of vegetables, and I eat a lot of them!

I admire all those who grow their own. For me it is so easy to buy whatever looks good, fresh in the produce section of the grocery store. No canning, no freezing, no waste. Just steam, salt, and eat! My wife does the steaming; I do most of the eating.

I do like frozen spinach, frozen corn on the cob and other frozen vegetables.

I also eat canned vegetables. I stock up when they go on sale. Canned vegetables are not as good as frozen and not even close to fresh. They are perfect for those days in between trips to the grocery store. And canned vegetables make a great snack, open, salt, and eat.

Today my wife is making one of my favorites! Fasirt, (pan fried Hungarian Meatballs) and steamed savoy cabbage. To me cabbage is cabbage, but she makes some concoction with savoy cabbage. Most of it she steams for me! 😁

My pretty little Angel spoils me in every way imaginable. What did I do to deserve this? I'll go with the Grace of God. The beauty of the Grace of God is you don't have to earn it or deserve it, just be grateful.

I believe my gratitude is the reason the Grace of God has been the gift that keeps on giving. Much better than the Jelly of the Month Club. ;)
