For whatever reason, I confuse this with parsley. They are part of the same family. Parsley is the garnish.
Parsley leaf is a herb you can cook with, I don’t use it as a garnish but I see it occur and yes parley is expensive for its value

Parsnips look like an off white carrot same size and cooks at same time, so mixing them in a meal is easy. I always do parsnips at Christmas, but personally when I buy carrots if parsnips are good I get them too, my son who cooks for himself also buys parsnips and carrots eaually

FYI a raw carrot delicious, a raw parsnip ; just don’t go THERE1

Growing parsnip is fine, and can be confused with parsley in the garden, I like small plants in a pot for leaf but not full grown parsley it’s a waste of space
BUT is can be confused with common similar poisonous plants! And even I do not mess when I cannot tell a self sown from the rest. The only difference is a reddish tinge and a slight difference in the stalk, and frankly just not worth dying for! hemlock - called wild parsley very damgerous
And easy to mistake, see you also have it.

Parsnips roots have a distinct smell easily to tell from parsley, hemlock I don’t go near and when in doubt rip it out wearing gloves, but as I said above out in the garden never risk it, and I collect seed, but only in the polytunnel and I often check the root even when growing.
to be honest I bought a lot and grow a few, especially as for the space I prefer say celery.

The bigger version causes skin burns and leave you very very vulnerable to sunburn permenantly

Well, howdy there internet peoples and those made of snippy-pars

It's Troy again.

I managed some writing of the words yesterday, and included reminiscing about a secret mission to sink the Tirpirtz, and included a joke about being crunchy and tasting good with ketchup. Yes, there was a dragon...

Then I went and watched games being played before coming back to apply pigmentation to the undead models.

The kataphractoi... undead byzantine cavalry. Their armor is supposed to look oxidized from being in the tombs... Needs weathing and detais like straps picked out

The undead priests that make the whole thing function. need their details picked out and some modest weathering.

Good morning all!

Currently 61F heading up to around 87F. I see this morning they have modified the forecast a bit. We were expected to have
several days this week in the 90s and they have lowered the temperature forecast to now have us in the mid to upper 80s.

Have a few Monday things to do around the house today, but most were done this weekend so it will be light. I did get
out and do the mowing and trimming yesterday afternoon so at least that is done and might not have to be done for
another 2 weeks now.

Spent some time in the train room finally last night. It was good to get back down there and run some trains, and do a
little organization..

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all,

Busy weekend as always.

Had some train time, got the switches all cleared of my excessive previous ballasting attempt, and then ballasted another big chunk of rail. I still have to figure my road and town layout. still not positive on where I want what. I also need to get the track cleaned as I've noticed some issues with engines stalling in certain areas.

Saturday, I ran 3 loads of topsoil in the kids yards to level holes that the city left when they replaced part of the waterline 2 years ago. They lived with it until now. FYI, They were basically 3 bobcat scoops of topsoil loaded into my Colorado. Still 750 pounds loaded into a quarter ton truck plus me is a load on the vehicle. I did still have springs though.

Not much else yet.

My wife uses parsley with cut diced white potatoes cooked on the stove top, I love it!
You forgot the butter or the mayo bu t yeah especially for potatoes with out a good flavour parsley is superb

I grow
tomatoes, they self seed so why not and expensive for a handful but you get a lot on the trusses amd you can ripen late season in cardboard boxes with an apple or better a banana
Peas
Again a lot for the space and once gone I can squeeze in another crop usually squash/courgette
Squash/courgette for variety and have no issue with hybrids buy if I want spagetti squash need to buy the seed, picked young courgette oh zuccini to you quickly grows more, rip off milder leaves asap and this is caused by air watering water the ground reduces the issue
Cucumber love them this year I messed up and only did gherkins ;( should have bought plants but too busy
Strawberries my favourite I start them on the ground hand once the fruit starts to turn colour to protect it from pests then after harvest back on ground because the heat on pots dries the soil too much yes the strawberries recover but on a good year I can get May/June and autumn small harvest
Potatoes inside in weather when there’s frost that kills the tops, outside and outside in pots, put in bottom cover with soil and as plant appears and grows add more soil as the potatoes will grow off the main stalk (tomatoes do this but I just lift mine and hang for more space
FYI if the frost gets the potatoe it can regrow but you lose growing time as they have a set life once flowers appear you may as well harvest
Grapes inside need to be trained and avoid overshadowing
There’s the label white white I got but actually very pleased although the pests have now realised I have grapes so harvest asap
Onions I love spring onions plant too many but then eat the bulbs later, red and white grown near edges to help deter pests not convinced it works
Beans mostly for the soil and potential crisis as pests avoid them, one year I undercooked the beans and was aggressively very sick, always boil and cook long enough! I always get good results even on ones not meant o grow in this country I buy mixed beans off the supermarket shelf much cheap
Melons and water melons, hhhhmmmmmm, usually I don’t do better than an orange this year I had great watermelons was so looking forward to them bought baby seed and looked scrummy went out and rats or sonething had scoffed the entire harvest a couple of husks next year I will hang them! The fruit AND the pests!
Sweet corn I do the heirloom multi coloured not as sweet or as tender as the yellow version but store well also were mice can’t find them!
Yes I do the 3 sisters sweetcorn beans squash
I have figs but honestly for the room they need the harvest is useless
Asparagus, does well yum yum
I can grow cabbage I like a red coleslaw but they are fickle one year good next year useless and overrun with butterflies and caterpillers
I can grow spinach both hands tied behind my back lol
I like Swiss chard normal and traffic lights colours
I grow beetroot successfully
Then loads of fruit bushes fruit trees also nuts but I have grrrr squirrels and they ruin the crop always hazel and sweet he’s nuts and walnuts oh and birds get the cherries unless I net them and I am very lazy
I don’t fill the freezer nowadays so I gorge or give away ot feed birds when harvesting and dump a lot of seed for self pollinating damsons do well but I have a number of apples one so far is sweet the rest are basically crab apples and I should graft decent apples on them, the plan and the actual carrying out of plan is usually overrun by the fact that we a.ways have more choruses than time.

Oh and Covid I gave a lot away to neighbours to help them out eggs were the most popular item

I grow beetroot successfully
That's another one that I try to grow. I managed to get at least one baseball sized beet each time. Since I'm the only one who eats it, it usually goes bad before I can finish it. I just boil it. If I need a pickled one, I go to the commissary. I should try eating the tops, just to spite the worms... haha

Good morning all. Another stretch of hot weather for the next week. I did manage to hold off the A/C for another day. It wasn't too bad. If I can sit and cruise the internet or watch television without sweat pouring off of my forehead and neck, I'm fine with that. As soon as the sweating starts, the A/C gets started.

We did get a small amount of measurable rain last night from a weak stationary front to our east. I had been watching it on radar forming for several hours before it arrived and was quite surprized it held together as long as it did after the sun set. Even had a bit of thunder and lightning which I can't remember hearing and seeing for months now.

The Lenovo T520 ran all morning yesterday until I transitioned to the living room after lunch, and it's running normally again this morning. This pretty much proves my ExpressVPN corrupted install theory. Not Windows 11 install on an incompatible machine, not bad disc sectors, not a GPU failing, etc. A simple corrupted program.

Going out to the the gunshop at 0900 to pick up the new Walther P99 and am enjoying my morning coffee in the cool morning air...for now.

Have a good Monday. Being retired, I never have to experience another Monday again. It's just my second Sunday of the week.
