I think he needs to have a good look and steal I mean copy some of your work :D
Plus who would not turn down some inspiration :)
Especially the way you add figures to bring the layout to life

Good morning all,

The cold front must have shifted east, I woke up this morning to 63, no dew, calm, overcast. We are in for above average temps the next 10 days, meaning 70's for highs. East central Minnesota. People from the Twin Cities call us "up north"

I was able to make the wheelbarrow handle yesterday. Wife tested it bringing up some pretty big rocks from an old foundation nearby, said it passed.

Also ran trains quite a bit after dinner, everything ran well. Will be at the history center for my 10 to 1230 shift today. Also working Saturday morning this week.

I have two of these guys on my layout, painted each a little different, I love the suspenders and bow tie:

here is a wide view of the area South of the quarry, have been adding several details around here, as well as finishing the landscaping in the background:

That is a Prieser figure, a man struggling with his beast.

Willie: Congratulations on the wedding anniversary! I did not get married until 35 so I would be 88 on my 53rd.

The current 2022–2026 Collective Bargaining Agreement between Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association sets the minimum. But some minor league players have individual contracts and get well over $1million/year.

Annual MLB minimum salaries:
2022: $700,000
2023: $720,000
2024: $740,000
2025: $760,000
2026: $780,000

I know how you are talking about. He is considered a defense first backstop. His plus defense is the main reason he has played in parts of four MLB seasons. When it comes to the catching position defense is the most important aspect. This young man checks all the boxes need to be an MLB catcher.
  • Solid defensive catcher with good framing metrics and blocking ability.
  • Quick release and above-average arm strength; capable of controlling the running game.
  • Handles pitchers well and is trusted as a game-caller.
The book on him as a hitter says he has limited power, more of a contact hitter. But! He has put up an OBS of 900 in one of his AAA seasons. In that season he had six homeruns in only 105ABs. He has struggled with MLB pitching, but most young players do.

Considering his contract. well above MLB minimum salary and the fact that the Dodgers traded for him is proof of his potential. He is at the age when he should be nearing his peak. This young man has the potential to be a star! You might want to ask for an autograph!
I have 3 remaining autographs! Former Chicago White Sox Nellie Fox who signed his baseball card for me. I have a Chicago BlackHawk Bobby Hull autograph on his hockey stick he gave me in 1967 when I was 15 years old on my birthday. Finally I have Chicago Bull Chet Walker autograph on a NBA game used basketball he signed for me in 1970.

I sold autographs I had from Billy Williams a Cub HOFer and Jim McMahon of the GB Packers after Mike Ditka no longer wanted him on the Bears. I had lots of BlackHawk autographs from the 1960’s as we had access to the BlackHawk locker room for a few years. Those were lost/destroyed in a flash flood that almost destroyed the house we live in but destroyed just about everything inside

Thanks, his dad said he was doing well $$$ and in baseball circles is regarded as a good one. Probably a coach down the road is what dad said

When he comes home I want him and his dad to talk to the grandson and his parents about the road to professionalism. The grandson ihas been being recruited and pushed into making career choices already at 11. I find that appalling and odds are he wouldn’t ever become a pro. Yes he currently dominates in both hockey and soccer but I believe it’s a matter of his overall sports IQ and his ability to see the next play. No you can’t teach that but his physical skills have to keep up. He was always one of the fastest if not the fastest on a soccer pitch. Even his dad and step-granddad mentioned Sunday he no longer is. The neighbor when we talked yesterday said he made both his sons play multiple sports until 2nd year of high school. Agreed that the grandson made a good decision a couple years ago to go back to play at his age level instead of moving up 2 levels as he did. The neighbor said his soccer son did the same thing or the joy of playing would have been taken away.

Good Morning All. Wow! Clear and 59°, wasn't supposed to cool off that much last night. Forecast had called for 64°. Daytime warmup begins today with highs in the 90's for the next ten days. Not a chance of either rain or snow in the forecast.

Today, Arlene and I celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary. I still remember my Dad telling me that it wouldn't last 5 years since she was a non-Catholic! He did live to see us celebrate 33. He softened up a bit later when my sister also married a non-Catholic a few years afterward. Not sure of the dinner plans yet? It's never my choice!

Did some more mowing yesterday, completing my target area on the south side of the estate. Looks pretty bad with the hay-rows of cut grass clippings which I'll rake up today. They'll be saved in a pile by the garden for use next season as mulch or compost. Yesterday was also house maintenance day, as I had to change 3 light bulbs in ceiling fixtures. Not sure why all 3 failed at the same time. It did mean climbing up on the step-stool and dealing with those hated thumbscrews. The one in the hallway was still an old-fashioned incandescent one which we quit using 20 years ago.
Sometime today, we're taking the Accura to the repair shop to see why the rear hatch won't stay up. I don't have any other concrete plans.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was a relaxed day. I sat at the workbench and consolidated several individual containers of diesel details that I have accumulated over the years. Lots of spare Kato and Athearn parts, they both always included extras in their kits. Some that I bought individually and some that I don't know the origins of. There was a dozen hand-fabricated sunshades for diesels but mostly there were truck details. All were found in my unsuccessful quest for a package of sanding sticks that are hidden away (not intentionally) somewhere in the train shed. I need to be better organized.

Jaz -

Don't fret about it. I enjoy the challenge!;)
Kevin - Best wishes for your G'niece's recovery. She probably already has switched to the other hand on the phone.
David - I have always thought that you have a really nice view out your back door.

Everybody have a terrific Tuesday.
Congrats on #53 to you both. May there be many more healthy and happy ones.

Terry and I will have. 49 years married on the 18th this month. 53 together on Halloween

We have doves here but I have never heard of anyone hunting them. We do have a season.

Probably because we also have Ruffed Grouse, which has a lot more meat than a dove.

With Grouse, usually only the breast is eaten. Hold the wings down with your feet and gently pull on the legs, the breast comes right out.

No longer a hunter, yet I clearly remember doing this with the grouse I shot.

It's in his signature, but he didn't bold face it.

I thought you were on a self imposed spending freeze.
You are correct, I have imposed a spending ban on myself.

But... This is a Christmas car, special exemptions to Christmas stuff. My world, my rules, 😁

Probably a coach down the road is what dad said
Catchers often make great coaches. But I wouldn't give up on him yet, He hasn't reached 30 yet. One good offensive season and as a catcher he would be finically set for life, if he isn't already. Another $10-$20 million wouldn't hurt.
When he comes home I want him and his dad to talk to the grandson and his parents about the road to professionalism.
It is a hard road. Professional athletes literally eat, sleep, and live their sport 24/7/365. A player must truly love his sport to make that kind of commitment. Otherwise, it will get old quick.

I coached many young players, some were phenoms. A rare few, even I thought they had a chance, but not one made it past AA baseball. My advice was to aim for high school, then college and go from there. An education has a long shelf life.
He was always one of the fastest if not the fastest on a soccer pitch. Even his dad and step-granddad mentioned Sunday he no longer is.
Young players can change drastically in a couple of years. Some start out as stars and fade; others keep getting better. Some start out at the bottom and suddenly blossom into stars. You never know for sure.

If your grandson has a true love for his sport, help him pursue his dream. Encourage him as long as that love remains. One thing all great players have is a love for their sport. No one has found a way to measure heart and desire.
