Good morning folks [just barely, I know] but it is now 81 here heading for 89. Last night I scored a fleabay win of a Gorre & Daphetid Red Passenger car that wasn't stupid priced. This gives me the complete set of them. Good message at Church last night, my Nephew has become an excellent preacher. Yes, I know I am biased, but he really is good. Just meat & potatoes style of preaching, but it's what I need. Volleyball game tonight and just working on the first pot of coffee still. LadyC is plotting a couple more travel jaunts for us this year.

First day of school for the grand children....Usual ceremonials and traditions. Wish all kids well this school year.

First visit to the dentist in at least 15 years....1 Crown, 1 Post, 1 extraction and two partials $6700.00. Got my Amoxicillin for the procedure. Hope this all works out.

A little cooler today. 84F at almost 11:30am. It will get a bit warmer but it’s partially overcast.

Hit at least 94F yesterday here and has been in the low to mid 90s since last weekend. Weather guessers are saying slightly cooler tomorrow and possible storms this weekend. 50%.

Next week a bit cooler. Partial cloudy and in the 80Fs. So say the guessers.

No news on the job interviews. I had the formality screen on Tuesday with the third company. He said he’d get back with me to set up the technical interviews but the hiring manager was out this week on PTO. The big names one (the one I’m hoping goes well) sent me an email Tuesday with an explainer on their process and a link to a form to fill out that included my availability for the next 2 weeks. I filled that out and have not heard anything yet.

Bead up until 4am this morning helping my daughter with her math homework. They started this year with review and she said the teacher explained everything differently than the teacher last year and she was confused. I think it was just a long summer and the obligatory mind dump. They were doing mathematical functions. I had to look some stuff up (I’ve been out high school for more than 40 years).

She has a test in it today that started 50 minutes ago. She skipped the first period of school to get some sleep. I hope her brain is not too fried from lack of sleep. I know mine is.

Here is something I found at my German MR forum. I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't actually looking at a truck.

For those that are unfamiliar with German locomotives, this is a Br.193 Vectron made by Siemens. Several locomotives Amtrak uses are derived from this locomotive.

I thought flannel was some ancient trend popularized on the Red Green show! 🤔 😁
I think the northern Midwest States started it. Canada like a good neighbor took it as their own!

Flannel around here (Wisconsin) in Late Fall/Winter is a shade more popular than blaze orange which I have never worn!

EDIT
Looked it up. Seems flannel has been around for centuries, European origin but closely tied to Wales! Lots of interesting reading (if ur bored) but I can’t get any links to work here! I typed in “who popularized flannel shirts”. No mention of the Red Green show, or the Upper Midwest

Been up since 0230 when the rain started. First rain in a while and it is coming down hard. Weak typhoon passing through. Supposed to be getting heavier rain mid-morning to early afternoon. We definitely needed it but I was happy the grass and weeds were starting to die off. I guess they get their lives renewed.

Glad I rain-x'd the front glass as I need to go shopping this am, but may not if I don't feel too good since I am up right now.

Good day to all...........

Another hot day in west Texas.

A bit of work in the train room. Several projects to choose from.

No sign of the "thief raccoon". I brought in the cats bowl around 8 pm last night so the thief had nothing to steal. However he has tried, on occasion, taking the water bowl that I leave out over night.

I was rudely awakened from a nap yesterday by a blaring horn sound. Seems the guy behind me was upset that I was sitting at a green light.

Somehow I have managed to gain an extra 10 pounds in the last two weeks. I have not changed my eating habits but I have been eating more potato salad in the last week as I found a new recipe and have had a serving just about every day for 5 days. Its all gone now so I guess I'll lay off the stuff for a while.

I received my AmEx bill the other day. I have a regular credit card account with AmEx that has interest, not the card you have to pay off at the end of each month, even though I try to pay it off each month to avoid any interest. But, I noticed the interest rate had increased from 13.9% to 19.9%.
I called AmEx and asked if I had done anything that caused the interest to increase. I pay that bill within a day of the day I receive the bill so it does not arrive late. The lady I talked to was nice and explained my account was in excellent shape, no problems at all. So I asked what caused the interest rate to increase so much ? She said the interest rate is variable and AmEx just arbitrarily raised it higher. I have an excellent pay record at AmEx for over 32 years, guess that just doesn't matter. On a similar note, I talked to a good friend of mine who has the same type of card and he told me his interest rate went to 21.9%. I'll be using the AmEx card less now and for sure it will be paid off at the end of each month.

Take care....John
